Hi g. I'm heading to college next year, and I need to buy a laptop. As my old laptop is a piece of shit, I will need to use this one for gaming also. I figured if it can run witcher 3, it can run just about anything, so I'm using that as my benchmark. I want a gaming laptop, but keep in mind ill need something for schoolwork (game dev major) Tell me if you have any suggestions.
First of all, go do CS because they can do game dev, but game devs cant do everything a CS major can. Second, don't get a gaming laptop, they weigh fucking 20 pounds, the fan is loud as shit and they suck power like a whore.
Get a zenbook or some fancy shit like that, itll run your shitty games and look good in class. Better yet, dont play games on your school laptop, buy a seperate console for that shit and invite some friends over to actually socialize and chill you fuck. Dont spend your college years sitting in your fucking room playing games online with nobodies while whispering sweet nothings on IRC or some hsit. get it togheter

OP, don't go to college. Think of all the money!!!1 Can you even imagine all that money. There is free cheese in every mousetrap.

Jesus, that nose is huge.

This guy is so fucking right in basically every aspect, except for like one thing. Don't buy an expensive laptop, spend like 200 bucks on a thinkpad+ssd and spend the rest on building a desktop. Even then, you should have a wiiu or some shit because people fucking love mario kart and smash bros.
Still worth getting a minor in game dev, but major in CS so you actually know how to make shit.
If you're on a budget a used Y40 or Y50.
If not, then one of the MSI laptops in your price range is about the best bet. ROG is stupidly overpriced and they usually have a DVD drive for some reason.

Explain to me why game development is not a viable major. How is it any different than CS if you know specifically what you're doing? If I know I want to make video games for a career, then why should I waste my time learning to do programming other than that which is involved in game development?
>pro-tip: you cant

If you really know what you're doing then just build a few small games, get an internship or entry level job at a dev startup, and move from there. Save yourself a few $10k and get much farther faster.

>CS

both CS and game dev are shit majors
My tablet fell and the glass is cracked
I need to replace my cracked digitizer, but I don't want to use a heat gun. Nor do want deal with any two-sided tape.
Why won't any place sell the glass and the frame as one piece that I can just purchase?

Cheapo goodbuild laptop + gaming desktop for college. Dont bring your laptop to class, it is a distraction and youre notes will be shit if you even take any, the cheap laptop is for when you need a computer for like the library or something. I know plenty of cs majors that only have a desktop, i have both but prefer to use theschools computer if im doing work on campus and my desktop if im in my apartment. My bulky ass laptop is only used when want to write a paper in my lounge area. Trust me, you do not need nor want a gaming laptop for school.
