I used Manjaro for one year. It was pretty cool at first but bugs quickly made it unusable.

It's unstable software, maybe it will become great later (even though I don't think so) but it's actually unstable.

Arch exists since 2002 and has proven to be more powerful and more stable than other distros (just try to install KDE on a vanilla Ubuntu and let the fun begin).

I'm a Debian user but I recommend Ubuntu Mate to anyone who asks. Why? Because it juzt werks. I honestly don't see the point of taking 3 weeks to do something like installing some software or adding my computer to a home group/LAN. That's for self-loving nerds like me. Normies don't need that, and that's perfectly fine. Ubuntu is the only real alternative against evil (Apple and M$) and it pisses me off when elitist neckbeards push normies away from Lignux just because "HURR DURR HE USES MINT WHAT AN ILLITERATE FAGGOT!!!"

Fuck that.

Gentoo is better imo, but that's probably because I've used it since for over a decade and barely have used arch more than a year.

yeah, that's why i listed both as hip. arch because it's used, gentoo because it's memed. not that i hate gentoo or anything, it seemed pretty neat when i tried it.

I've been using ubuntu because it just works. I used arch with xfce for a while and loved it, but then realized I needed to focus on school, not trying to fix things I've broken. Then I played with Qubes OS, a fedora based OS four people who want to go full tinfoil (I was anonymoose those days). Then I played with real fedora. That might still be installed dual boot on my gaming rig actually... Then I used ubuntu with gnome... But then decided unity isn't all that bad.

I have it triple booted with arch.

It's kinda minimal and rolling release (like arch) but without systemd and good documentation. Be prepared to install lots of things from source if you want to use it as anything more than a hobby distro.

rinit is really fast though, boots real quick.
>>
>>51843209
I'm still trying to find her, I know shes out there somewhere.
>>
>>51859977
Some anon recomended it in /flt/. I tried to search some docs but (not like arch) I think it lacks kinda documentation. Am I right, wrong, or I don't know how to search?
>>
>>51860000
Youre right, it is lacking in documentation (especially compared to Arch which pretty much sets the standard with its wiki alone)

That said, a lot of the arch wiki is transferable to void, and the bits that arent are (usually) the better documented bits of what does exist

Also nice quads
>>
>>51860015
Then, everything asked, I will continue for a while.

I'm so newbie to fuck with Arch, although I want it to try so bad. Should I go 1st with Void? Void calls me because it's native no SystemD. But now I'm thinking I will get arch but with another logo.

Is it correct?
>>
>>51843497
I actually didn't know about this. thanks anon.
>>
>>51853684
1) Stability.
2) Bugs.

Pick one.
>>
>>51857175
>tfw i used Mint and now using xubuntu

It's the first time i'm using Linux, so pls no bully.
>>
>>51860064
Messing around with arch is usually quite painless thanks to the wiki.

Void is similar to arch in that its a minimal rolling release.

I'm not really experienced enough to go into some of the more intricate differences but I can say pacman is a better package manager than xbps (for me at least).

rinit is snappier than systemd, though there's not much of a difference and I would say systemd is (slightly) more user-friendly, if only for having better documentation.
>>
>>51860724
Then, you would recomend me start with Void instead of Arch in that kind of distro? Because being newbie and stuff. . .
>>
>>51850379
So do you want me to download about a dozen or so distros and install them one by one, try them out and see how I like them?

Some of us have girlfriends you know.

> I needed to focus on school, not trying to fix things I've broken.

>>
>>51860946
Trying a distro is not download and testing it for 24 hours straight. . .
>>
>>51860975
then how would I know what to choose if I don't use it for at least a couple of days? the one that has the prettiest icons?
>>
>>51860946
Why are you even here then
>>
>>51861000
Try it as you would use your fav distro for a week. Install, conf it, then use it as always for a week. You will be testing 4 distros for each month (in case you couldn't decide at 2nd-3-rd day)
>>
>>51861000
Just stick with Windows lmao baka
>>
>>51861005
Debian: Really stable, great for servers, but packages can be older versions

Arch: Needs more effort to get it running and to maintain it, new versions of the packages (Snapshots)
>>
>>51860897
you really gotta know what you're doing, or be able to accurately translate what you need to do from the arch wiki to void.
>>
>>51861108
Then, it is better to go straight to Arch?

>...hey, there was nothing like arch before, was there?
Most distributions were like Arch. Bootstrapping from a minimal system isn't anything new or exciting, and is still commonplace in systems such as Solaris. Hell, you buy one of Sun's old Sunfire servers; there's a good chance it wont have a USB/PS2 or removable media support. Even now OpenBSD provides miniroot images.

After some time I've come to the conclusion only distros worth using are
Beginners or just werks - Ubuntu or buntu based
Server - debian
The enthusiast who spends his time on computer 24/7 - arch or gentoo
Someone who wants a system they can full customize but not have to worry about a bug every update - Slackware
Fedora is shit, don't touch it.
