I bought a monitor from a company on ebay called Sage Sustainable Electronics.
It was a Lenovo Thinkvision 2452p. I got it for $90 with shipping. The condition was listed as "B grade: minor nicks and scratches. Screen many have very minor scratches that are not visible during operation."
When the monitor arrived it was in a GIANT cardboard box. Ridiculously oversized.
The monitor was wrapped in six inches of bubble wrap and resting on a bed of another six inches of packaging peanuts.
I opened it and the monitor was damaged. The base stand had come out of its socket and the plastic housing for the monitor was cracked open.
I turned the monitor on and it worked perfectly. The screen was nearly immaculate. I can't tell anything "B-grade" about it other than one very small scratch in the upper right corner about 2mm long that is completely invisible during operation.
I immediately took photos of the monitor and sent them to the seller.
I decided not to have them replace the whole thing and instead take a partial refund for the value of buying a new base stand. I snapped the cracked open case of the monitor back together with my hand.
They gave me a $30 partial refund to buy a new base stand with. As soon as I saw the money in my paypal account I took the damaged stand off, took it apart, and repaired it.
So $60 for a pretty nice 24" IPS monitor that is sitting on my desk working perfectly.
Buying used can be a gamble, but sometimes it pays off.
