The cap is pretty shitty but honestly I would've requested a discount as soon as they turned on your internet because of the trouble you went through just to get it. I have moved twice so far with Cox and both times they tell me on the phone during activation that "oh this will be easy as the previous tenant had our service installed already within the last two months" and guess what, both times my modem would not establish a connection and I'd have to wait 2 days for them to send a tech to fix the cabling/box outside. Then when I see a $30 service charge on my account for that, I just call and complain and say that it should've been working already, why do I have to pay for it, and they just waive the fee.

Just stand your ground with your ISP and if it's anything but Cumcast you should get some sort of discount.

Also, fuck Telstra. Fuck Ziggy and FUCK Trujilo.

Optus HFC is only as bad as it is becuase they could never make money from it - why?
Because Telstra decided in their infinite wisdom to overbuild Optus HFC (and essentially ONLY built HFC where they would be overbuilding Optus)

I've been trying to get AT&T to install another 3 t1s since I took over a few months ago. They had plans to develop a site a couple miles from their main site but abandoned all plans. Someone from the old IT company put in an order to that abandoned site for 6 T1 lines. For the past 2 months, AT&T has been sending technicians to wire up an empty field. I have received no less than 4 calls from confused AT&T Techs who want to know where the wiring was supposed to be installed. I have tried to cancel the order more than a few times by phone and email but they keep sending techs. I'm afraid they will eventually just wire up a tree with 6 T1 smartjacks and call it a day.

its very common in the us and canade to have bandwidth caps due to ISP monopolies.
in the us there exist only like 3 is companies in reality as all other companies go through their network.

the eu doesnt really have bandwidth caps currently. but many companies want to implement them and already have like for example in the uk.

dont believe me?

>Happily blow through 1-2TB each month, nothing to worry about
Feels good desu, only downside is that the only ISP in my area that offers this kind of speed requires all customers to have a TV package as well, which means I'm practically paying twice the cost of my internet connection despite not being interested in watching TV at all.
They're dropping that requirement sometime in 2016Q1 though, I'll be upgrading to 300/60 then.

Reminds of a horror story I heard from somebody who worked at an ISP in Sweden:
>Guy calls in, starts complaining about a really show office
>Customer service rep starts looking into why it's so slow
>Turns out the guy is using their cheapest plan and running a whole fucking 50 person office off this connection intended for private use
>Naturally everything is connected to the one DSL modem/wifi base station provided by the carrier
>Has to explain that it's slow because the connection simply doesn't have enough capacity to support a whole office of that size
>Suggests a business line, which is of course considerably more expensive
>Guy goes completely nuts and starts demanding that they fix his connection
>Customer service rep explains that there's nothing wrong with the connection, it's just doesn't have enough capacity to support his needs
>Guy continues yelling at the customer service rep and demands that they increase the capacity for free
>The rep naturally tells him that if he wants more capacity, he's going to have to pay for it
>Starts threatening to cut the plan if they don't "fix his internet"
>Manager is called in, doesn't agree to give free bandwidth ether as this guy hasn't been a customer for more than a few months
>Guy cuts the connection
>A few weeks later someone else from the office complains about the connection still being slow
>Turns out he's just gone to their main competitor and asked for their cheapest connection

Why the fuck does everyone have bandwith caps and shitty ISP's?

I have never been capped and i use a lot.
I had 90/9 but then i got a letter and i was upgraded to 120/12 for free.

Only thing i'm going to do is call and ask if they give info about me to third parties.

Small story oh how australian ISP providers are cunts.

So...

>I finally get word nbn is my area by letter

>On the same letter, a statement explaining if I do nothing, the adsl2+ internet will be disconnected.

>I get instantly mad and starting abusing cunts left right and center.

>Next day ring up ISP

>Me: "Yeah I got this letter saying that it will disconnect my line if I do nothing" I want out of my contract since I am not upgrading and will be paying for nothing"

>Packy cunt "Umm sorry sir" "What the government does will not allow the contract to be void"

>Me: "So what, I am stuck without net and your shitty nbn plans?

>Packy cunt"Yes"

>Me: "Let me talk to your manager"

>Me "Yes hey, I have been using your internet for 2 years now and for the last 3 months I have had constant dropouts, inconsistent download speed and almost not internet at times.

"According to your service level agreement, it explains this is below standard allowed."

>Pack cunt's manager "Oh I am sorry sir. Allow us to look into further into this and we will contact you the next working day"

>ISP rings back next day
>Packy unknown cunt " Hello sir, we received a call from you yesterday. After looking into this matter further, your area seems to have had a lot of disturbance. As a result of this, we are waving any contact fees and canceling fees you may incurr if you choose to cancel your contract"

>Me: FUUUUUUUCKKKKKK YEAHH"

>Tell them to discontinue you me
>Ring up new isp the new day which has way cheaper plans
>Free upgrade to nbn 100/40 for $80
>Free cisco router since I was loyal during switch over.

What kind of shitty 3rd world do you live in?
Here they give you a modem when you sign on the plan and you can either use it or not.
>>
>>51842214
Most isps don't "give" a modem. You have the option of paying a 7$/mo rental fee or using your own instead of having them send you something.

When I ordered Internet from Comcast I already bought my modem from amazon. Told them my address, that I had my own modern, and was up and running within 30min. When the building is already wired they don't need to send anyone out.

A few years later I moved from my apt to house. Had a short phone call where I told them my new address. Unplugged modem from old apartment and plugged into new house. Service just worked.

Comcast gets a lot of shit but most of my dealings with them have been fairly painless. Just need to be aware of all the bullshit fees.

Comcast's new caps are trying to affect people that use Netflix and Amazon, but have a side effect on people that game, use cloud storage for their stuff, streamers, etc.
