On Monday, Google announced a restructuring plan that elevated 43-year-old Sundar Pichai to chief executive. It is a reminder that the CEOs of some of the world’s most recognizable tech companies share origins from India.
That they all ascended to the corner office might not be a coincidence. A recent cross-cultural study from Southern New Hampshire University examined managers from the U.S. and India, for example, and found that more Indian managers achieved the highest ranking in terms of leadership traits.
Indian managers are future-oriented, and had a “paradoxical blend of genuine personal humility and intense professional will,” the study said. “These leaders achieved extraordinary results and built great organizations without much hoopla.”

Actually I don't think Microsoft is headed in the right direction. They missed the mobile boom, now they're playing catchup. They went full retard with the cloud, even tho that's still not being much embraced by the market.
And now they risk losing their core business, once they're forced to make Windows free.
Once Google docs become as good as Office, companies may ask themselves "why should we be paying billions for OS licenses and support, when we can get all this stuff for free from Google, or we could get business services from Google for a lot less".
That's when it will be time to panic at Microsoft and they might become the next IBM.

Well, Apple started this trend, by making their OS "free", if you buy their hardware. Apple is still niche on the desktop market, but usually they are trendsetters. And in time some of their tablet/iphone users might switch to OSX too, by getting a laptop, at least.
Then there is Linux which is free and it's ubiquitous on the web. It doesnt look like it's going to be able to take a stab at Microsoft's supremacy on the desktop, but it has already grabbed a big slice of the market of all mobile devices, via Android. Then there's stuff like the Chrome OS which seems to be going Apple's way (free OS tied to branded hardware).
Then there's even crazier stuff being cooked by Intel: the next iteration of the compute stick will support 4K video, it will power itself via hdmi, all you need is a display/TV and a wireless keyboard-trackpad combo. For 100 bucks you could get the version which ships with linux and you got yourself a computer which can do everything that most normies need for 100 bucks (browse web, watch videos, email, social media, casual gaming etc).
It's only a matter of time until someone puts all these pieces of puzzle together and figures out that the masses only need a cheap hdmi stick with a flashed android version on it which can run lots of free apps, can use Google docs, store the big files in the cloud or on a msD card. This would be a device that will be more capable than all mobile devices and it will approach laptop performance at less than 1/5th of the price.
Suddenly both Microsoft and Apple become less relevant, since neither overpriced software nor overpriced hardware are needed for a basic desktop setup. And this would be the kind of desktop which is portable without having to carry anything more than a stick in your pocket.

Getting into management also requires a boring personality and a dislike for personally accomplishing anything. People who can't hack doing the actual work of producing something go into management.
