Someone explain the 144hz meme to me.

Is it worth it? Does freesync/g-sync even matter?
>>
It is better but it's not hundreds of dollars better.
For both 144Hz and adaptive sync.

for mobile users
keep /g/ clean of /b/ tards

>>51825137
difference between 60hz and 144hz in real time use is similar to the difference between 30fps and 60fps in non-real time video.

You know how watching someone play a game looks smoother than when you play it yourself, like that.
>>
Adaptive sync is more useful that refresh rates > 60Hz, but both together is obviously better still.
>>
The human eye can't see past 24FPS anyways. That's why movies are recorded precicely at that framerate. Anything beyond is audiophile tier snakeoil.
> Your eyes are shit mate I can distinguish between 120 and 119 FPS perfectly fine
Don't trust those guys, They already wasted thousands on graphical power and equipment to get gains they won't even notice
>>
>>51825273
Movies are actually recorded in 24fps because the motion pretty much adds a frame blue making it look smoother, video games on the other hand are literally still images being flashed before you so 24 fps looks like shit. If you can't see beyond 24fps you're probably retarded
>>
>>51825273
only valid answer. don't even listen to placebo autists telling you they can see more than 24 fps. it's all bullshit.

consoles target 30 fps just to be on the safe side and because it's a nicer number. if more than 24 fps had any effect, sony and microsoft would have started using 60, 144 or 2000 fps long ago.

don't fall for the meme.

It's just a meme.
>>
200hz is a thing now, I'd wait and see if a reasonably priced monitor comes out.
>>
>>51825425
it's just to get /r/pcmasterrace to leave, calm down.

You know better anyways.

Remember to sage shit threads
>>
>>51825273
its not about fps you idiot.

its all about difference per frame.

smoke/fog will look smooth at 10fps simply because theirs little difference per frame.

movies get away with 24fps because they use motion blur to reduce the differences per frame and smooth it out.

video games cannot do this, each frame is independant, higher fps = less differences per frame.

thats why you want to run games at 60fps since theirs very little difference per frame and it syncs up with monitors which are typically 60hz.

same applies to higher refresh rate monitors, they're better because they enable higher FPSes, more fps = less differences per frame which translates to smoother experience.
>>
>>51825137

Don't bother unless you're a gamer with a high end rig
>>
>>51825273
stop spreading this rubbish over the interwebz, educate yourself.

Even the difference between 60 and 75Hz is clearly visible (you may be able to overclock your 60Hz display to 75hz), so yes, 144 is much superior.

Mind, difference between 120 and 144 is next to non existent.

Also, you can benefit from faster refresh rate even if don't get as much FPS due to input lag reduction but this is actually a minor improvement
>>
>>51825511
OP don't get memed by this guy
It looks the same regardless of the refresh rate on your monitor

you probably own a $1000 graphics card, you're obviously biased. i know it's hard to admit, but you wasted all that money. your lies won't change that.

>>51825528
>overclock your 60Hz display to 75hz
confirmed autist
>>
If human can see 24 fps then why 60 looks smoother
>>
144Hz is nice to have. freesync/gsync doesn't make a noticeable difference at such high refresh rates.
More resolution and bigger screen still beats muh Hertz.

>>51825532
>uses a still image to describe a sequence of images

nope you are retarded.
higher fps = better
higher refresh rate = higher fps

I can scientifically prove that you are a retard.

>>51825548
I'm not being biased, theirs scientific research to back up what I've said.

our eyes don't see in "frames" they process light continuously. the less differences per frame, the easier it is to trick our brains into thinking its motion.
>>
>>51825548
> confirmed autist
no u, my IPS works @ 78
>>
>>51825556
it doesn't. you're imagining it looks smoother because you spend a lot of money on an expensive PC and can't live with the fact that it does absolutely nothing. it's called choice-supportive bias, look it up.

believing in high fps is the same as believing in audiophile crap. it's just memey pseudoscience with a lot of buzzwords.

Listen senpai those 3000 audiphile tube amps I mentioned are scientifically better and objectively improve sound quality AT FREQUENCIES YOU CAN'T EVEN HEAR
Just because its "better" doesn't mean you will notice a difference.

Human eye doesn't do FPS and can distinguish motion at ~312 FPS equivalent
>>
>>51825599
their is a noticable difference between 60hz and 120hz.

144hz is way into diminishing returns, but saying that anything bellow 60 is smooth is just plain wrong.
>>
Here's the real mind boggling question.

Why the fuck are we arguing about 144hz when plasma tech has been capable of 600hz this entire fucking time and is clearly the superior refresh rate?
>>
>>51825599
but you CAN see the difference between 24 and 60/75/120

They downclock the display to match your current frames per second generated by your graphics card, they eliminate tearing and are the future of gaming monitors
>>
>>51825857
if u've got nvidia card create custom resolution
>>
>>51825886
got radeon crimson drivers. can i still do it?
>>
>>51825137
If you have the graphics card to drive it, and a twitch based game, then 144hz is really nice to have.

But that being said, 60hz to 100hz is the biggest improvement in quality. 100hz to 144hz is a much smaller improvement

As far as adaptive sync goes, it's really nice for super graphic intensive games that can't run stable frames.

you are either blind or have never tested it for yourself - in each case you should not take a voice in this thread. All you do is posting false statement that you've heard somewhere else.

The only true part about 'human eye cant see over 24' nonsense is that you can't, indeed, distinguish difference over 24 when a loop of all white at one frame and all black screens on the other is presented to you. 24 is where it gets all blurred and averaged to grey

Detecting movement is a different beast
>>
>>51825915
dunno, google it or yousearchengineofchoice it
>>
>>51825137
Well, I use a 144hz monitor next to a secondary 60hz monitor and even for simple things like dragging a window, the 60hz feels like a fucking slideshow compared to the 144hz. That's how much it changes for me. I'll never buy a 60hz monitor again.

As for G-Sync/Freesync I'll copy paste what I posted in another thread:
Depends on how much you can stand screen tearing or v-sync input lag and stutters.

I can't support either and it's been my peeve for years until variable refresh rate first came out. I bought a g-sync monitor as soon as they became available and I'm never going back to static refresh again.
Now I'm waiting (forever) for TVs to also adopt variable refresh rate standards so that I can game comfortably on my couch, emulators and all.
>>
>>51826197
Dude... no one freaking believes that 24fps bullshit. You're falling for a too obvious bait.

I can't believe that kind of shitposting still attracts replies.
