What is your personal limit when it comes to spending money on tech?
Mine is that if it cost more than a ticket from australia to Germany and back ($1500) then I just don't buy it and go on a holiday there instead. Unfortunately for Apple this means I can't buy any of their laptops.
The closest that manages to get to what I want out of a product wins.

More often than not though you won't get what you want out of the cheaper product and so there will be a point where you need to draw the line regarding cost.

Cost be damned, I want something fitting my exact autistic specifications.

I buy it if it's likely to increase my overall happiness more than not buying it.

Consumer buy: cumulative cost of around $400 every year (like gaymes, clothes, tech, etc.) and try to get back 1/2 the cost via ebay/CL for the resellables.
Productivity: depends on the gear but last time I spent $2,000 for certs, new desktop internals, softwares, and study materials. (Buying passes to do your homework? That's absolutely fucked up, where the hell does my tuition go?)
Rest goes to gas, bills, loans.
Though most of what I do is generally free or very low cost to my benefit. If high cost they last over a lengthy period of time (e.g. desktop = 7-10 years.)

Great question.
I try to think of it in terms of how long I'll be using the device, and distribute the cost accordingly.
If I expect my $400 phone to last me 3 years before I get a new one, that's ~$11 a month. So I think about it like a subscription service. Is a shiny new phone worth $11 a month?
Same with deciding on TV's. A 65" 4k Visio I picked up on black Friday cost me $1,000. The last TV I had lasted 6 years. Even If this new one only lasts me 5, that's still only ~$17 a month. Not bad at all.
Anything at about $20 "a month" over an expected lifetime is not worth it for me.

Why not if it costs more than the ticket AND the holiday?

Enjoy never owning a good PC, a house, or a car
You can buy used iMacs for €500
I love buying tech to the point where I will buy it over clothes and food (yes I know I have fucked up priorities - working on it). There really is no spending limit as long as the price is reasonable. If I had $5k right now, I'd be headed to Microcenter.

The Retina Macbook starts at $1299, you stupid nigger. And that's actually a good configuration, with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. It's not the Macbook Air, where the standard configuration has 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD out of the box and a shitty display. A lot of people overlook this about it when judging its value relative to the MBA..

Those are US prices. He's from Australia.

How many moderate christians have you seen holding a sign telling radical christians to stop?

HAHAHA, fucking hell. That is an epic butt-fucking. You could probably fly to the US and buy one and bring it back with you for less than that.
