Suppose you wanted to take down a website? How would you do it?

Suppose it is a website visited by many people.
>>
>find out where the website is hosted
>bomb the server room

It's not that hard.
>>
>>51811775
Contact the owner and arrange to purchase the website from him for an equitable sum of money, and then close it down once control has been transferred to you.
>>
>>51811819
AND HE'S EVEN GOT THE BOMB!

Prepare the Gibson

You could find a hole in the website somewhere and just keep breaking it every time they restore it until they figure it out.

What you are asking for is a DoS (Denial of Service) attack. Google it.
>>
ask the hacker named 4chan to do it
>>
>>51811775
DDOS attacks seem to be the go-to method for skiddies and "hacktivists" around the world. It's a simple, yet effective concept.
>>
Everyday write ad least 3 abuse latters, if big site wrtite 10.
Kinda like Amnesty International xD
Content of letters doesn't matter, just write a lot, c p, dmca, sta lking

You mean threaten legal action right?
>>
>>51811775
sudo ping -Aaf google.com
>>
>>51812174
not just wirte a lot to abuse, hosting, domain provider, cloudflare. Importand think, write EVERY SINGLE DAY.
>>51812137
i don't think so, most sites use cloudflare, and old attacks just don't work on that, maybe layer 7, but nobody have time for that
>>
Would DNS poisoning be more effective in taking out a site by directing users away from it, or by getting queries for another site sent to it too?

how else will he ping google's root?
>>
>>51813013
sugesting that google had root, and not user with root previlaged
>>
>>51812936
Jokes on you, ping can't run without root privileges. If he doesn't have setcap set, he'd have to run it as root for it to work.
>>
Verizon
No idea; work pays for it
No idea what the cap is.

I've literally never used a mac.

I'd suggest you learn your own operating system.

Nice damage control, ping works fine on Linux without sudo

Convince them to switch to Xserve.

Install Gentoo.
>>
>>51811775
Hypothetically, DDOS works pretty well on lower end sites. Higher end sites like Google, Facebook, etc. Good fucking luck.
>>
>>51813078
>ping needs sudo
>>51813850
>ping doesn't need sudo

literally being this retarded
>>
>>51814033
Nobody said ping "needs sudo" you retard. It needs cap_net_raw, which it can get either through setcap, or by being root. Your ping binary has the cap_net_raw capability already set on it, so it works as any user. If it didn't have that capability set, it would in fact require root privileges to run.

So again, learn how your OS works before you go making a fool of yourself.

ping can be run without admin privliges

ping can be run without technically being on a user

example: crosh, the browser terminal for chrome which is still able to ping
>>
>>51815908
Well no shit, technically anything can run without admin privileges, just SETUID that shit.
