How's Spotify?
>>
Great on desktop, shit on mobile unless you pay
>>
kewl.
>>
>>51806621
I use it.
I hate every fucking change they make as they take something useful away and add more invasive privacy shit instead but I still use it. I'll never pay for it though.

>still no Joanna Newsom on Spitify
>>
>>51806685
Probably because ¿she/he/it? doesn't want to.

Don't know who the fuck is that. Don't blame Spotify so fast.
>>
Streaming media dis-services such as Netflix and Spotify require nonfree client programs that impose digital restrictions mechanisms (DRM) intended to stop the user from saving a copy of the data being streamed through her own computer. You should never use DRM that you can't break, so you should not use these dis-services unless you can break their DRM.

A friend once asked me to watch a video with her that she was going to display on her computer using Netflix. I declined, saying that Netflix was such an affront to freedom that I could not be party to its use under any circumstances whatsoever.

These streaming dis-services are malicious technology designed to make people antisocial. (If you don't have a copy, you can't share copies.) Rejecting them is of the highest ethical priority.

Out, out, damned Spotify! Flick off, Netflix!
>>
It's great if you know what you want to listen to.

It's awful for finding NEW music, at least for me.
>>

Discover weekly, my nigga
>>
>>51806830
That is populated with the most pleb shit and you know it.
>>
It's great. Use it every day.

>>51806785
I'm an open source supporter and that's where Stallman's logic fails for me. You're not paying for a copy of the media, but for the right to stream the media, similar how to you would rent a movie.
>>
>>51806830
I tried that. Haven't found a single decent song since I started using it.

>>
>>51806785
Bait but if not, this why you are a virgin. Netflix has gotten me laid so much
>>
>>51806795
I mostly just search for genre playlists, and stuff my friends listen to. Discovered a few great bands with that method.
>>
>>51806785
>A friend once asked me to watch a video with her that she was going to display on her computer using Netflix. I declined, saying that Netflix was such an affront to freedom that I could not be party to its use under any circumstances whatsoever.

Oh wow he actually said this.
>>
>>51806855
>similar how to you would rent a movie
But the difference is that you can make your own copy of the rented movie.
>>
>>51806785
You must be fun at parties.
>>
>>51806942
Yes, illegally. You can also obtain a copy of the streaming media through illegal means.
>>
>>51806967
It's actually not illegal to copy a DVD for personal use.

>You can also obtain a copy of the streaming media through illegal means.
As far as I know, nobody has broken the DRM on Netflix or Spotify so you don't have this freedom.
>>
>>51807002
Depends on the laws of your country and whether it's copyright protected.

>As far as I know, nobody has broken the DRM on Netflix or Spotify so you don't have this freedom.
Yes, as far as you know.
>>
>>51807002
>It's actually not illegal to copy a DVD for personal use.
Actually scratch that. This depends a lot on the country. Regardless legality != morality
>>
not as good as grooveshark, but the best thing available for streaming music right now.

I use it daily, despite it not having King Crimson.
>>
>>51807033
See, here's the thing: I don't give a shit if Spotify data mines my musical tastes.
I do mind, however, if my operating system is sending all my personal and business documents to a corporation which may or may not collaborate directly with it's respective intelligence agency.

That's the reason why it's okay for some programs to be closed source, while others should always be open source or at least adhere to common privacy protection guidelines.
>>
>>51807002
It could be not if you buy the dvd, not if you rent it
>>
>>51807051
Yes.
>>
>>51807103
My only point was that netflix and spotify aren't equivalent to renting DVDs.
>>
>>51807116
So how can you break netflix's DRM?

Is Google Music free?
>>
>>51806621
>>>/g/sqt/
>>
>>51807217
Radio stations are free but to play individual songs and get a playlist, its $9.99 a month. Plus you get YouTube red with it as well so for me, its more than worth it.
>>
Apple Music is better desu
>>
Absolute trash on mobile. Xbox music works really well if you have a windows phone (the layout for it is really nice for me) but trash on anything else. I'm using Google play music now and it comes with YouTube red for the same price as the other streaming services, and works a hell of a lot better than Spotify mobile does.

Goddamn I hated Spotify. It would "delete" my music every update, but it would still be on my phone. So it would download them again, except all it was doing was updating the rights or something, fuck if I know. It would always do it right before I went on a road trip and needed that music downloaded because I wouldn't have service. After the 5th time I dropped that piece of shit like an ugly baby and never looked back. Google play can do everything it did, actually syncs to the music already on my phone, and has a better layout, and YouTube red for the same price, so I don't know why a sane Android user would use anything else
>>
>>51806795
>It's awful for finding NEW music, at least for me.

This. Grooveshark was way better at this
>>
it's one of the worst programs I've ever used

last.fm has turned to shit now that they use it
>>
I use Apple Music.
>>
>>51806785
Is Stallman a virgin?
>>
>>51806795
This. Even with Premium, it still only cycled the same 20 songs when you make a radio station. Including the ones you disliked. What's a better alternative for someone who want's a good variation random music and a general idea of what they want to hear?
>>
apple music is much better for discovering new stuff and has better suggestions + the catalogue is bigger

I tried 4 of these apps (free monnth(s)) and would rank them:
1. deezer
2. spotify
3. google music
4. apple music

the first two are about the same google is just a bit worse and apple music does not even have website streaming (I'm not going to download itunes on my work computer)

Nothing beats Netease in value and features. Netease costs $0/lifetime, has a ton of songs (a few of them are greyed out and unavailable, but this is a smaller price to pay than $9.99/per month). It has a custom radio function that adjusts according to your music tastes, and automatic lyrics on just about every song.

One thing to note is since the app is originally in Chinese, you will need to search for a Xposed English translation mod, or do without it (the UI is easy enough).
>>
>>51813224
In Spotify though you can actually add a whole album to you're library in one click. In Spotify you get instant downloads and no broken links. The Spotify app actually looks good at different screen sizes.

You can do that in Netease too. See screenshot, press that folder icon and it can add the whole album into a playlist.

Also, you can download every song into non-DRM MP3s to play in normal music player apps.
>>
>>51813360
About 80-90% of the songs are available on Netease. Anything you can't play go look it up on YouTube.
>>
>>51813224
is there any guide on how to register etc?

>>51813430
Go here and scroll down a little: http://superdevs.weebly.com/netease-cloud-music.html

Song selection is pretty decent, but it's usually missing all the little hipster bullshit I like. It's convenient for mobile, but I hate the desktop interface and how restricted it is, especially coming from foobar. It's pretty much Grooveshark without all the licensing infringement that got them taken down.
>>
Wow, why don't you guys just buy lifetime Spotify/ Netflix accounts from the darknet? They cost like 5 usd

If you wanna save a song from Spotify, just install any good virtual audio cable/ stereo mix software and record the audio. It's 320kbs with premium so unless you're an audiophile retard, it will work just fine.

My issue with Spotify currently is the Android App.

Seriously... You DON'T have the option for music to pause when headphones get disconnected? You actually removed this from the latest version? On top of that, a few other features are missing too.

And it doesn't work well with my locker (SmartLock). And sometimes it goes missing from my notifications.

After these three months that I bought for £1 expires, I'm going back to PowerAmp.
>>
>>51814698
setup a profile with Tasker to pause music when headphones off
>>
I pay for it because it's nice to have. I still pirate music though.

I love the interface and the fact that I can listen on one device and control it with another.

It's shit for rap though. no mixtapes.
>>
>>51806621
Loved it but switched to Play Music since it includes YouTube Red.
>>
anyone remember getting music from holyfuckingshit40k in the days of megaupload

It is pretty good. The "radio" is shit compared to Pandora though. You can't add multiple artists and any liked songs jump to the front of the playlist and will replay every time you start that station again.

Google "Spotify Cracked Apk" and you should find the latest one. I use it and it's working. But don't log in with FB though
>>
>>51806621
It works well since I switch devices a lot and spotify allows me to have the same music and playlists across them.

REMEMBER:
If you have access to a .edu email address, you may have access to half off pro price. I pay 5 bucks a month for it which doesn't bother me at all, but I don't know if I would pay 10 a month.
>>
>>51806621

It's super ez to use, create playlists and shit.

>>51806621
Actually really great.

I use it to discover new genres of music and artists that I have never heard of before.

It works well with mopidy and ncmpcpp as well so that's a plus.

not >>51806830 but Discover Weekly is good for DISCOVERING music. It is mostly full of generic niggerdom and electro-folk-pop for college girls, but every now and then they find some real gems.
