Right clicking on the unallocated section should present an option to make a partition. Assign the unallocated space to the partition and give it the letter you want.

Just got a EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB SC GAMING ACX 2.0 (04G-P4-2974-KR)

Yes I know it's only 3.5 GB pls no bulli

I have furmark running at 1440p windowed with anti-aliasing set to 8x. Getting framerate of 13 with safe temps and quiet fan. With no AA I get about 43 frames per second. OC'd in MSI Afterburner up to 1500 MHz core and 4000 MHz memory without increasing voltage and it's stable. Idles at 43 degrees and 38% fan quietly.

I'm having trouble getting it set to 4K 60Hz display. Maybe I'm retarded but I've fiddled with it all day and I can only get the output to 60Hz with artifacts for 10 seconds before it blanks out and reverts. I know the TV can do 4K at 60Hz over HDMI but right now I can only get 30Hz to work. The TV only has HDMI so that's my only option.

Should I return it and get something else? I'm stuck at a 600 watt PSU so I probably won't want AMD again. Also I paid $279 for it, did I get fucked? Or should I wait till Christmas and get another GTX 970 to SLI, then upgrade my mobo, PSU and CPU as well?

Alright /g/, is there any addon for Firefox that let's you search websites directly by typing a prefix in the addressbar, i. e. "w apple" would search wikipedia for engine, "y installing a psu" would search youtube, "4chang would search the /g/ catalog" etc.
obviously you'd have to set these up first, but all the addon really needs to do is add "4chan.org/g/" and whatever string i entered together

You can set up tags and keywords through your own bookmarks, and the set up your address bar to use them.

I have questions about dual booting

I have an ssd with windows and I want to install debian on my hdd which is in a caddy in the cd slot

I installed debian on the hdd yesterday and put the loader (grub) on the hdd as well, though the installer recommended to put it on the main drive

I thought it would be better not to involve my ssd since I will probably replace or format the hdd later on

The installation went well I think but come booting time it just went directly with windows.

Entering the boot options menu allowed me to select other options such as hard drive, cdrom, usb, network etc but all failed and ended up loading windows

Do I need to install grub on the ssd? Is there a workaround?

Note I can't access my bios, it asks for a password I never set up. (I've tried solving this problem before but never really needed to access the bios so without much effort)

not a question but I will share my own stupidity

I have an esxi box to show off how large my epeen is, 2 raid cards in passthrough to a nas4free, 40tb storage, etc. I bought some SSDs to act as the primary datastore in raid1, knowing full well that I had no slots left on my raid cards and that I would have to use onboard raid.

today I learned that esxi does not support onboard raid.

add an entry to chainload windows from grub, set the hdd to your primary boot device.

That way you can go HDD -> Grub -> Windows Bootloader -> Windows / HDD -> Grub -> Linux, without the annoying chance of fucking up your windows bootloader and having to recover.

So would xubuntu or lubuntu be appropriate for this?

>So would xubuntu or lubuntu be appropriate for this?
Either. It's just a different UI.

>I also heard about Wubi and was wondering if that's a good option?
NONONONO!
Wubi completely awful, and (thankfully) dead.

>Or an emulator?
What, like a VM? Sure, if you don't want to install on hardware.

>My old PC is with 2Gb ram/dual core 2.14Ghz
My netbook was less than that, and it ran Xubuntu fine.

>My current PC is with an i5/4Gb ram
That would run anything.

You yourself are fine.
However, you risk power surges, power loss and in areas with poor electrical infrastructure, brownouts.
Brownouts are usually considered the most damaging, giving random power fluctuations.
Power surges could damage your components, but such cases are rarer with modern power supplies.
Power outages or cuts can lead to corrupted files if they weren't written to completely.

Your headphones will almost certainly be fine. There is no mechanism by which you could be electrocuted.
Power problems could damage your PC itself. You can protect against this by using a surge protector (can be found most anywhere) and/or an Uninterruptible Power Supply, known simply as a UPS. The UPS will keep your computer on for a few minutes, allowing you to safely shut down.

The OC designation typically does designate overclocking. While possible, it's very rare to see overclocked ram due to the extremely small gains vs the risk and time sunk into overclocking it. What make and model is your ram? Did you buy it previously used?

Question:
I just built a new PC and I've got my old one now sitting disused (sans the hard drives and RAM, which I cannabalised). That's a 650W gold PSU, i5 750 and a HD 5850 more or less going to waste.

Is it worth spending about 350 bucks (Australian prices) to buy an mATX case, mobo, new ram and an SSD to cobble together a HTPC with the guts?
I'm hoping it would be powerful enough to play 4K video and/or 10-bit h265.

Does anyone know if my desktop would benefit from an SSD running off of SATA2?.

Motherboard = Asus P6x58DE. This was one of the first motherboards to have SATA 6gb/s IIRC they fucked up the implementation of it.

I have two options:

Intel ICH10R controller @ 3gb/s

or

the Marvell PCIe 9128 controller @ 6gb/s (which I hear is a massive fucking turd from what I remember)

Current OS HDD: WD Caviar black 1TB (2010 - the slower than shit one that under performs WD blue 2013 drive).

Do modern day SSD's even take advantage of anything higher than 3gb/s?

I've found this post

Also, it mentions that only one application will be able to have audio, which is something I'm looking to avoid as well.
Anyone have any experience in doing something like this?

It might be stupid, it might be smart, it might not even belong to this thread, board, or cupboard.
Yet here I go:

I am very, very, veeeeeeery desperate for money. I am a CS student in Germany who is learning JAVA on the side as someone who never coded before.
I have found my rhythm, my routine and made very good habits in a short time through applying some very nifty tricks on myself.

I actually like computer science, mostly the logical aspect, and have begun to delve into proofs and linear algebra with a very big enthusiasm.

And as someone who is not even a tiniest bit knowledgeable about this sort of thing, this is a very paradox thing I am very proud of.
I guess you could call it a thirst for obtaining and applying knowledge.

There is one problem that nags my focus though, which is money.
I need it to pay my rent and my safety net is slowly but very surely becoming nil.
I want to avoid the red as much as possible and have started to eat only every second day since I am a fat fuck and started to buy peanuts from a pet store to get through these desperate times as I get my calories from it.

I visited the work agency and apply to employers right now, but what are also some good ideas to pursue?
Right now I am even on unpaid training and I have the feeling, that he won't employ me, since he denied me to work in today so I can get more experience.

I really want to continue my academic education and I do not want to land on the streets and every day I become a more and more bitter person.

Was tun?

CIDR is just an easier way to write out subnet masks. I would much rather write /16 at the end of an ip address instead of 255.255.0.0.

Variable Length Subnet Masking is a more efficient way of subnetting a network. When you do classful subnetting, all of the subnets must use the same subnet mask, forcing them to each use the same number of hosts.

Hi guys, super pleb here.
I bought a gaming pc a long time ago, but over the last few years have stopped playing games almost entirely.
There are a few games that come out every now and then that i pick up, and my pc is starting to get a bit too old to keep up.
I'm thinking about upgrading, but i don't know what i should upgrade specifically.
my specs are:
CPU: i7-2600k @ 3.4ghz
video: radeon 6950 1gig ddr5
ram: 8gig ddr3

What would be best to upgrade? my only interests on the horizon are just cause 3 and street fighter 5.

For the record, this is a cpp_dec_float type casted from a cpp_int (boost libraries). In this case the original cpp_int was a 1234, after conversion the .56 is added on (intentionally). The other decimal numbers are weird and not a result of my code.

uBlock is lighter-weight and consumes less memory. A lot of anons also have a philosophical objection to ABP (I'm not quite sure how a non-plus version is different, to be honest) because it accepts money from advertisers to put them on a whitelist, which is on by default. They say they want to promote "acceptable" and "non-intrusive" advertising, but many would say that advertising is inherently intrusive, and that an ad-blocker should block ads, with no conflict of interest. uBlock also makes it easier to subscribe to a wider range of filter lists (check a box in the addon and it'll enable them, AdBlock comes, I believe, with only one list, and you must seek others out)

If you switch, you want uBlock Origin and not "vanilla" uBlock. Origin is a fork by the original creator after he turned over the project to another developer and that other developer proceeded to not do much. There's a lot of internet drama here, if you wanna dif into the story.

It can provide those things, among others. The thing is integrated sound is pretty good these days, and for 99% of users, the improvement isn't something they'd notice. It's a bit like fancy ceramic knives. A master chef may well notice the improvement of a $300 wonder-knife, and be thankful to have it over a knife you buy in a department store. Will you notice as big of a difference? Probably not, if any at all.

People who are really into audio, music production, and such can get benefit from dedicated sound cards of many types. But you get led down that path by saying "I need (more outputs/lower noise/lower latency/something) to do (this particular audio task that I do), and my integrated sound isn't giving it to me! What can I get that'll give me those capabilities?" Doing it backwards, by saying "Well gee, if I buy a dedicated sound card, what improvements will that give me" is a bit of a solution in search of a problem.

I don't even know what deleting that folder did but seemingly it's done nothing, my storage space is still in the shitter and WinDirStat doesn't really point to anything specific except the pagefile and hiberfile taking 3.6GB but even then, that doesn't leave me with a plethora of storage

Might disable the hiberfile

Its a build im putting together with old hardware, xeons included. I'd still like to hardware to be safe though. Just wondering if it will work/be safe for the components.

How about system restores? How many of those do you have?

Going to do a clean install of Windows 7 in a bit.

If I chose to install updates, would that install all updates up to today or just updates related to the whole installation process?
>>
>>51809734
None, it's a tablet so doesn't really keep them

Before I did this factory reset I had a load of programs installed and this is around the storage space I had. This time I've simply downloaded the basics so far
I don't know, maybe all my other programs were just really light and low on memory consumption or something, I had a shit ton more though and I just don't really know where all my storage space has gone

Office takes around 2GB so I get that, but the stupid thing didn't even install because it said I don't have at least 5GB free. Instead I've just got 2GB's worth of Office Download sitting in my files and I'm not sure I'll ever free up 5GB to actually install it

Will an m.2 SSD work in an m.2 to mPCIe adapter

The laptop doesn't support mSATA, but m.2 actually uses PCIe, right?

it would install roughly 160 updates up to some point where next updates would count on some parts of those 160 updates being installed before being applied

its usually some 4-5 rounds of check updates and install them

Update

I found a modular power supply I have with a built in ATX12V EPS 8Pin cable. It also has a modular slot to connect a cable for a second ATX12V EPS 8Pin cable. What the fuck do you call those modular cables? I can't find any at local stores.

Back of the PSU looks like pic related.

If I list something on eBay with free shipping, and the buyer winds up being international, can I potentially get fucked over with big shipping fees? I picked the shipping option that should only be like $2 to ship the thing but I don't understand how their international shipping thing works, they say you just send it to a central location and they handle everything but not about how extra fees are handled.

It's suppose to come with the cable. You might find a replacement on the PSUs website, never in store

Why is it that whenever I overclock my CPU (i5 4690k), the CPU fan always runs at full speed, even though the sensors show low temperatures in multiple programs?
I don't change any CPU fan settings in BIOS. I just use override voltage (1.09v) and increase the clock speed to 4.2GHZ.

Is this an old person or a scam artist?

The phone's area code is in a rural part of the state, far from where I live. I can see how they might need it mailed. It just seems odd that they are offering higher than asking price plus getting it express shipped.

How do I do this to ensure I get my money and they get the item?
>>
>>51810572
scam
>>
>>51810572
>old person who is smart enough to message you through texts but can't figure out how to mail things

doesnt exist senpai, they would be far more familiar with shipping things than using a phone.
>>
>>51810572
>>51810578
Just to amuse you it's always the same scam for me. They offer you more money + shipping, they'll ask for your email. They will send a fake e transfer email that doesn't actually lead to a bank deposit.

Then they will say ship the item express and send him the shipping tracker and he will send you the code for the e transfer. The whole point of the scam is once the parcel is sent you're not getting it back

I don't know how to describe what I'm trying to do but here I go:

I am trying to write a c++ program that takes input after the program is called and does somethign with it.

Example:

lets say you type in
foo -t -k test

I am trying to figure out how to make it so I can make options like
-t or -k mean something other than just having to call the program like

foo
MAIN MENU:
T option
K option

Regarding syntax, which is better:

 function ()
{
//code

or

function(){

Total matter of preference, but I prefer the latter because it looks cleaner to me, and wastes one less line.
