because lenovo doesn't use APUs and all the other companies are trash
>>
>>51796808
Most OEMs are pants on head retarded and limit the new Carrizo APUs to 15w TDPs and that makes them just as bad or worse performing than Intel equivalents at that power target with no benefits what so ever.
>>
Every AMD laptop i've ever used was a slow and power hungry piece of shit compared to my 8 YEAR OLD core 2 duo thinkpad.

The only places I see that sell AMD laptops are bargain basement places like walmart.
>>
because, unfortunately, laptop manufacturers only put them in shit tier craptops.
>>
>>51796808
My a10-7850k and r9-270x paired together form the basis of a wonderful Linux desktop and gaming VM.
>>
>>51797344
>laptops
Fuck me and my reading comprehension

But I won't buy another laptop til I can find an apu one that isn't throttled to hell and back, or on a 4 year old chip
>>
apu laptops are fine for light gaming.
>>
>>51797447
Doesn't apu work in the quickie mart?
>>
>>51796808
Because for the most part, they are used in shit tier laptops. They aren't even that bad, it's just that OEMs put them in garbage tier bargain bin laptops due to how cheap they are.

I've heard rumors that Apple is considering picking up Zen processors or getting some semi custom processor design from AMD, but the sources that I've heard it from are so unreliable that I might as well just make these rumors up myself.
>>
>>51796808
Pretty much all laptops with AMD's APUs have Shit TN 768p displays

no idea why, last gen A10s were on par CPU wise with comparable i5s, just used a bit more power, but it also gave you better gaming performance

Carrizo Has power delivery and performance issues
>>
>>51796808
HP business laptops with APUs are badass
>>
>>51798091
HP release a business laptop with an A12 PRO APU, though it's carrizo, and I can't find any benchmarks of it

I can't even find benchmarks for the Standard A10 8800p
>>
>>51796910
My Intel sandy laptop is 35w though? Iirc.
I'd love it if they made a good carrizo laptop though, wasn't there a lot of hype over OEMs lining up to order them or something?
>>
>>51798287
It's not a problem with Carrizo itself, it's just the retarded OEMs who think they can limit it to 15w TDP and still be competitive with their Intel offerings.

Carrizo at 35w trounces anything Intel at the same price.
>>
>>51796854
>What is Thinkpad e455?

You're welcome.
>>
>>51796854
Lenovo is trash, don't mix thinkpad from IBM was their idea. They're shit
>>
>>51798322
But even with the 35W power delivery carrizo is built for energy efficiency and not raw performance.
>>
>>51798321
Pretty much all the mainstream Intel chips have shifted down to a 15w TDP standard now.

OEMs don't realize AMD isn't very good in the power efficiency department.
>>
>>51798328
>e555
Own it. Was so bad that I ended up bought a 450s
>>
>>51798287
>Pretty much all laptops with AMD's APUs have Shit TN 768p displays
this

and full HD displays (till tn though) seriously cost only $5 more to the manufacturer, but they still buy those garbo ones
it's crazy
>>
>>51798330
Lenovo is probably the only non apple company that makes good laptops. Dell and HP are so shit they'll die on you the moment your warranty expires

This is AMD's first good laptop in a while, not sure if the carrizo chip on it is throttled though
>>
>>51798377
>AMD APU
>Dedicated AMD GPU anyway
>$900

How pants on head retarded can Lenovo be?
>>
>>51798389
It's great actually, if one GPU dies you can still use the laptop using the other one
>>
>>51798389
You can use the APU when you don't need the power of the GPU to save battery life since it's more efficient in light games like FTL or something

Not sure if there's crossfire capability as well, the GPU would need DDR3
>>
>>51798404
Basing a design choice off of the probability of a part failing at the expense of EVERYTHING ELSE is a retarded business practice.

Every CPU in consumer Laptops have Integrated graphics, it would literally be no different if they weren't retarded and used an Intel chip in that design.

Because AMD is already shit for desktops, for laptops it's even worse.

> pic related
>>
>>51798409
But Intel's chips are WAY better in the performance per watt scenario than any AMD mobile chip. If you're going to bother worrying about battery life at all, you go Intel.

And there is no Crossfire as you suspected.
>>
>>51798483
APU > Intel any day when you don't need dedicated GPU
>>
>>51798377
None of the Y700's i see on lenovo's site include the A12 as an option.

Iris Pro > Whatever APU AMD has
>>
>>51796910
I bought a HP garbage bin laptop and it jest werks. I only bought it because it was about $200 brand new, and it is still fine almost 5 years later.

I've also never, ever cleaned it at all. How it hasn't burst into flames is a mystery.
>>
Why does every 4k screen only come on 15'' screens or less?
>>
>>51798537
The A12 is 8800B and it's HP exclusive I think

>>51798488
This is purely a gaming laptop, that's why it has free-sync I think there's an i7 option, not sure if that comes with free-sync

Here it is on newegg

$949 with 8gbs of RAM

>>
>>51798572
At 500% of the cost
>>
>>51798336
Can you increase the carrizo chip to 35w?
>>
>>51798653
As far as the limited research I've done tells me, most laptops are designed with 15w TDP cooling and have their TDP BIOS locked.
>>
>>51798732
I think intel is paying off OEMs again or something, there's no good reason AMD laptops should get the short end of the stick constantly
>>
>>51798732
Generally, yes. OEM's are jews or Thais, aka Asian jews
>>
I do, especially now that energy efficient laptop APUs like the A10-8700P exist. It only has a TDP of 15 watts which is really nice for laptop batterry life.

4 modules 8 threads, not cores. Comparing on 2 different operating systems. In no way is this a valid comparison.

Red is 4670k, blue is fx 8350.
You're full of shit.
>>
>>51796911
>Every AMD laptop i've ever used was a slow and power hungry piece of shit compared to my 8 YEAR OLD core 2 duo thinkpad.

Well maybe you should've tried current year AMD laptops instead of 8 year old ones.
>>
>>51798483
You forgot the part where the i7 costs twice as much.
>>
>>51799053
I can't say much about the current fast day AMD laptop's performance but they're sturdy as fuck, that's for sure.
I just want a laptop thats cheap and won't die on me, AMD is the best choice. Intel might perform better but its not just as reliable
>>
>>51799002
It's 8 cores. Each module has two independent integer cores.
>>
>>51799444
yet they share an FPU unit which is arguably more important than the integer unit.
>>
>>51799444
It's a new design.
4 floating point units, 8 integer units, or 4 modules 8 threads.
Intel "cores" are one integer unit and one floating point unit.
>>
>>51798483
>47w CPU
>Ultrabook
It even says MBP
>>
>>51796838
I dunno ether I don't see why not to be honest its just that there isn't much to choose from other than that not problem at all.
>>
>>51798483
>most powerful AMD
that's not an fx 9590 in your silly bench
>3 year old haswell
It's not even 2 years old, come back in a few months
>8 core AMD
More like 8 threads. You don't call a quad core i7 an 8 core because of hyperthreading.
>comparing performance on multiply operating systems.
What an accurate comparison.

There is so much wrong with this picture, if it's not bait then you must be autistic.

>>51796808
I'm typing this from a HP Envy-Z which a friend asked to buy during Black Friday (he's outside the US). It's a Carrizo.

It's pretty good for its price. He doesn't game so it's fine. HW decoding of h265 is great, 4k h265 playback is smooth.
>>
>>51796808
Because AMD can't into power efficiency.
>>
>>51796854
Lenovo... You mean the company that continually gets caught shipping malware?
The best.
