did these people not know how to operate the package manager?

I use windows and linux. Windows has best support and out of the box experience, usually have required drivers preinstalled if not they are available on the internet, gaems works, plenty of professional software, windows is industry standart.

Linux is good but its more specialised and is not for everyone. Certain specific tasks can be done easier on linux. Others not so much.
>>
>>51796380
That really depends on the distro but my wifi adapter worked out of the box on fedora and centos, most wifi chipsets have a driver but need firmware. Radeon/radeonsi is integrated into the kernel you just have to load a firmware image which is like one command if you have an internet connection

I don't know whether you're a troll, or just plain stupid.

Can you get commercial software like Photoshop or Ableton Live for Linux? No. That's one of the areas Linux lack in. third party support.

Sure, Linux is a great OS, and I know very soon more people will start using it, but stop being a kek and joining the circlejerk. It's fact Linux has shitty third party support, operating a package manager don't mean jack shit when there's lack of third party and commercial software.
>>
>>51796699
You clearly have a horrible understanding of what third party support means.

There's plenty of it on Linux. Just because you can't get your Adobe products or some other shit product that almost always have Linux alternatives that are just as good doesn't mean there's no third party support.

Yeah, you're not a troll. You're a fucking idiot.

Linux is horrible compared to OSX and Windows in terms of third party support. It's fact. Stop being a circle jerking fag.

People who actually need Adobe CS for their career can't be bothered with bullshit like that.
>>
>>51796097
But the 'pre-installed software' and 'interface design' on a GNU/Linux distro is pretty much whatever you want it to be
>>

Get a load of this bait.

>Butthurt fag can't accept the fact Linux has shitty third party support

I'm not saying it's a bad OS, I'm amazed with the circlejerk

>setting up hardware pass through is complicated but it can be done.
This is a huge understatement.
>>
On the 3rd party software topic it really depends on your work, if you need Jewdobe, then you are out of luck, if you need basic CAD you can use Draftsight and for advanced CAE NX is really good, also you have data analisys software like Matlab, plus you also have Lightworks, blender and Maya for example, so it really depends on your needs.
>>
>windows
>acceptible
every other windows program uses a shit ton of ugly bloated ad-hoc designs
>>
>third party equals commercial software
That's not what that means you retards.
>>
>>51797057
For pre-installed software linux definitely should win, you generally get firefox, decent music /video player and even an office suite
>>
>>51796805
This is only generally true for desktop support of non-technical tools, and of software for engineers. Most everything else can be accomplished with ease right out of the box with first party preinstalled scripting or editing tools.

THE VAST MAJORITY OF ALL SOFTWARE IS WRITTEN FOR SERVER-SIDE, and in that aspect, Linux is unparalleled in third party support. The vast majority of development tools, you know, those things made for people who actually need a computer and actually work on computers as a career, support Linux as a first class citizen.

>This is only generally true for desktop support of non-technical tools, and of software for engineers
Even that depends. Sure if you need CAD or something, you might be out of luck. But linux supports a plenty of big name mathematical software like Matlab, Mathematica, etc.

/g is infested by "artists" who only use Adobe software and people that can kill you because you are not using the approved DAW.
Even animation software like Maya works great on Linux, damm even Gravity was made using Linux software.
>>
>>51796171
But considering most /g/entooman will never talk to a woman, let alone marry, support for murdering your wife isn't needed.

>mediocre

No. Either both are mediocre or both are strong. Especially with video cards and sound cards. You're significantly hedging on the assumption that this also includes non-free drivers or third-party driver, because otherwise you would be lying.

>interface design
>unparallelled for mac os x, despite el capitan introducing design features most OS users don't use/know exist

3/10 bait

made me rage but also help suggest improvements
