It's almost the year 2016.

Why aren't you running Windows 10 yet?

Even Microsoft will be pulling the plug on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 and kill them off next year in November 2016.

Worrying/Fretting over Windows 10 being a botnet/spyware is basically pointless if you've nothing to hide unless your tinfoil hat is on too tight which is most of /g/ when it comes to Windows 10.

Linux is still shit and hasn't surpassed Windows nor has it overthrown it either. Linux still hasn't brought anything of significance to the table yet. The year of the Linux desktop will never come.

What's your excuse this time, /g/?
>>
> Worrying/Fretting over Windows 10 being a botnet/spyware is basically pointless if you've nothing to hide

Until someone exploit it to get credit card numbers or if someone is embarrased by the porn they use. Linux is way better than Windows, I only use it at work because I must.

Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say. (Edward Snowden)

Because i need the pro version of 8.1 i got through dreamspark to run hyper v properly and use the android emulator in visual studio 2015. If i upgrade to 10 i get home and that version cant run the admin tools needed..

Also i have a lot of pirated software for 3d modeling on my 7 machine. Right now dual booting 8.1 and 7. May triple boot with a windows 10 installation on a new hdd for future dx12 gaymens, as i have that offered through dreamspark as well.

As soon as Microsoft can produce something that behaves at least as well as Debian Sid we can talk about why I'm not on Windows 10.

Have the even published a social contract to their users detailing the software licenses they use and rules they will abide by?

Has that nasty old Windows Update gotten anywhere close to an apt-get upgrade?

Have they published their kernel code under a free license so we can know that all three letter agencies haven't got a back door into Windows?

It only took my ssd 6 minites from bwginning to home screen to install Win10. After turning off all the privacy settings, changing group policy on updates, and using a quick "disable windows 10 spying" program for telemetry/keylogger/host blocking, it's pretty good so far. The "hidden/ignored windows updates" cab that microsoft provided was a nice touch. But honestly they need to make windows update the way it used to be and allow the retardedly simple force download & install edition as an option. In the technical sense I can see why they did it; if any exploits surface for the OS and it turns into a widespread problem, they don't have to include the demographic of machines that remain vulernable because those users have forcibly disabled updates and do not matter. So in the short term the avalanche of updates means the new OS is staying healthy.

Is there a way to change the trackpad gestures in windows 10?
For example, I already have too many ways to change between windows (i.e. super+tab, alt+tab, 3-finger up on the touchpad), but only complicated ways to change desktops (ctrl+super+left/right). Is it possible to substitute the 3-finger left/right from switching between windows to changing between desktops? It would be much more convenient.

tldr can I change 3-finger left/right touchpad gesture from switching windows to switching desktops?

I know right? How's he natively playing old Windows 3.1/MSDOS games if he's not quad-booting? This isn't NES we're talking about here, so no need to emulate like a peasant if we don't need to.

Not that these old games are any good since they didn't have good graphics, DLC, good character creation, or the ability to jump and swim back then. You should never actually play old games, you just need to have the ability to for bragging rights against a really advanced opponent.

Associate opponents with unpopular titles such as 'kooks', 'right-wing', 'liberal', 'left-wing', 'terrorists', 'conspiracy buffs', 'radicals', 'militia', 'racists', 'religious fanatics', 'sexual deviates', and so forth. Windows 10 has no improvements over 7, with the exception of dx12 support and unnoticable performance gains.

It is filled with bloatware that you cannot uninstall.

Your privacy is violated in every part of the OS. Privacy matters whether you "have something to hide" or not.

If you manage to make things more private, all af your work will be undone again at the next update, none of which are optional. Many of these updates bring more bugs than they fix.

Actually agreed. Windows 8.1 is probably the most finely polished version of Windows right now especially after the 8.1.1 update. Windows 10 is still a beta testing version, unoptimized as fuck code. I think the Redstone update will make it as good as 8.1 though.

Also 8.1 with the Start Screen is fine. Just uninstall all the apps and you'll never have to see them and the start screen is nicer to customize than the plain ass menu.

There were some problems at first, mostly because of Microsoft bullshit...it's amazing how far they go to make cross OS interoperability a hassle, when you see things from the other side.

But now that I've got everything figured out, there's no going back. KDE + multi-head, Dolphin instead of the windows file browser, no Internet Explorer lurking about, a usable CLI...holy shit, what freedom.

is it possible to install windows 7 (with sp1) using nothing more than an emulated/virtual cd drive with its iso mounted? or does the machine reboot in the install process and then wants more files from the drive and fails the install (since its not an hardware drive and not available anymore)?

if it matters, im trying to cleaning install an original version of windows 7 (back from illegal 8.1) to cleanly upgrade to valid/original windows 10.
