What should I make in JavaScript?
Don't care if it's beginner or next to impossible.
Don't want to use any frameworks, will start from scratch

No.

You can't really do anything useful with JS alone, you need a backend language too

Unless you propose to write the backend in Node which is an awful idea

Anyway my proposal for a webapp: An imageboard. Sure there are a lot of them, but they're interesting to make.

Can do this, any suggestions on the back-end to use? Can do it in PHP I guess.
And what kind of layout do you propose for it?
Will make it a single page app, to at least make it "a bit more challenging and time consuming"
>>
Just use node you pussy. Don't listen to these hipsters. They're gonna shit on PHP too.
>>
>>51787662
Made an app with node before, although it's nice, I don't know if it's all that suitable for an image board

I don't exactly love PHP, but I guess it could work if you're already experienced with it and have good code cleanliness.

Personally, I would do it either in Python (with Flask or Bottle or similar, not a huge bloated thing like Django) or Golang (with Goji).
>>
>>51787733
Web developer with loads of PHP experience, so I would probably just use PHP. Have worked with Python before, but it never really caught my interest. Never looked into Golang, how does it compare against PHP performance wise, assuming that there will be 10 MB video files uploaded?
>>
>>51787762
Golang is performance focused and you'll get far better results from it than PHP.
>>
>>51787578
Should i switch learning django for flask? Any pros or cons other than bloat?
>>
>>51787956
They are for different things. In your case, since you're going for a rich client + REST backend approach, I would use Flask. For a more traditional large website, Django is popular and arguably looks better on your CV/portfolio.
>>
>>51787783
Looked into it, Go seems to be a lot faster than PHP when it comes to GD, so might use that.

jQuery is obsolete anyway, especially when we're talking performance
