As you may know, by far the biggest modern problem in enforcing the GPL is crappy embedded devices from China. There is no domestic pressure whatsoever to enforce the terms of copyright or copyleft licenses, and by the time an infringement case can be brought to court the product's life cycle is over. This is the single biggest obstacle to truly Free software running on cell phones and tablets. The abhorrent state of GPU drivers on ARM used to be part of that but Freedreno and Etnaviv are well on their way to upstream in the Linux kernel and Mesa stack, and /r/linux shamed and mocked the PowerVR guys so mercilessly they actually hired people to work full time on developing open source drivers.

With that in mind, please read Trump's position on enforcing intellectual property law in China:
https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/us-china-trade-reform

Also note that the whole "shut down the internet" thing was a deliberately misleading edit composed out of a much more reasonable comment where Trump said he would consult with the tech industry about the best way to prevent ISIS using the American parts of the Internet to recruit. This stands in near total opposition to "HURR BACKDOOR ALL THE THINGS" coming out of the Obama administration and Hillary campaign.

It's counterintuitive, but a bombastic billionaire is the best hope for preserving Stallman's ideals in 2016.

With all due respect, it isn't going to be too difficult with any candidate to get some serious crackdown on copyright, so the GPL can be effectively enforced. Whether this is good or not is left to be decided, since the same protections that allow the GPL to enforce contribution also benefit proprietary software.

As for Trump, if the only thing you're paying attention to is his economic policies, you're not thinking outside the box. The man has no respect for the first amendment, and given his history, it's questionable whether or not he has respect for the second.

>Trump tells racist idiots what they want to hear
This isn't new.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_propaganda#In_opposition_.281919.E2.80.9333.29

"Propaganda must always address itself to the broad masses of the people. (...) All propaganda must be presented in a popular form and must fix its intellectual level so as not to be above the heads of the least intellectual of those to whom it is directed. (...) The art of propaganda consists precisely in being able to awaken the imagination of the public through an appeal to their feelings, in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses. The broad masses of the people are not made up of diplomats or professors of public jurisprudence nor simply of persons who are able to form reasoned judgment in given cases, but a vacillating crowd of human children who are constantly wavering between one idea and another. (...) The great majority of a nation is so feminine in its character and outlook that its thought and conduct are ruled by sentiment rather than by sober reasoning. This sentiment, however, is not complex, but simple and consistent. It is not highly differentiated, but has only the negative and positive notions of love and hatred, right and wrong, truth and falsehood."[5]
>>
>>51766005
So the people were later found to be innocent?

Is that image real? It reads like satire or like something from an edgy '90s comic book.
>>
>>51766792
And what's scary is that it works. There are so many idiots out there, and they all get the same vote as the rest of us.
>>
>>51766792
The democrat strategy of pandering to ethnicities, and promising gibsmedats is hardly morally superior to anything Trump does.

It's interesting that you mention propaganda, but fail to see that there is indeed propaganda that is embedded in our education and media largely dominated by socialist/leftie types.

If you don't believe me, just check out the cultural shift from the 60's onwards.

Truth has a liberal bias. It's inconvenient for conservatives that the Earth isn't 6000 years old, while liberals move right along.

Conservatives want their "truth" taught, while liberals just want the truth.

"gibsmedats" is just another conservative "truth." Democrats offer equal rights. Conservatives have a problem with this, since their idea of "equal" is, "I determine what is equal."
>>
>>51767095
wow
Just... Wow.
People actually believe this drivel. Please go back to /r/politics, Colbert doesn't play the childish strawman anymore.
>>
>>51767095
Yeah, I've seen the "truth" that MODERN liberalism offers. It means the complete shutdown of freedom of speech or opinion. How can anyone possibly reach the truth when a group shuts down everything that it deems incorrect?

You can't even open your mouth publicly without triggering the NEO-liberalist commissars (see US college/uni campuses). You can't carry out politically incorrect research without being hassled and publicly destroyed. All of this widely supported by neo-liberalist ideology and their supporters.

Both mainstream parties have been hijacked, but Democrats/libs/socialists take it to the next level.
>>
>>51767251
>freedom of speech means freedom from consequences
Yes, yes, only the white male gets to determine the consequences of the speech of others. His own speech is beyond such matters.

>if I don't like what you say, muh freedom of speech means I can harass you endlessly!
>if you don't like what I say, you need to shut up or you're violating muh freedom of speech!
>>
>>51767306
That's not how freedom of speech work
>>
>>51767306
Nice racial/gender stereotyping, shitlord.
>>
>>51767306
No, clearly we should be harassing, pressuring employers, and firing average people for the most minuscule of verbal offenses (frequently not even offensive, kek) because master told us to do so. Don't want to upset master, am I right? Very "tolerant" of you, and no doubt the path to the "truth".

Also, don't worry, freedom of speech will go once they have enough of their new voter base. Millenials who were fed propaganda 24/7 and new imports are statistically much more against it, so the future is clear.
>>
>>51767373

>>
>>51767373
I personally don't care what people do in the private sector- the market will sort them out- but the problem is leftists are trying to turn public schools and subsidized universities into propaganda outlets, and want totalitarian "hate speech" laws such as those found in the EU.
>>
>>51767373
See how others' rights go right out the window when it's something you disagree with?
- a viewer cannot hold a dissenting opinion
- an employer cannot determine who he employs
As far as you're concerned, anyone you agree with should be untouchable by law, and force of law should be brought against anyone who violates that.
And you wonder how Democrats get the minority vote.
>>
>>51767467
I never said they don't have the rights to do this, merely that it's hypocrisy to claim that you stand for "truth" or "freedom" when you're completely restrictive in your ideology.

Nice try putting words in my mouth though.
>>
>>51767536
>if I don't like what you have to say, I can harass you.
>if you don't like what I have to say, you can't say anything because you're restricting me!
>>
>>51767536
Being too dumb to see your biases does not make ignoring your personal slant an ideology.

>"Me me me me me me me me me me me."
>No.
>"OH MY GOD YOU'RE IDEOLOGICALLY AGAINST ME!"
>>
>>51767602
Modern liberalists/socialists types do not ignore "personal slants", they hunt it down at the first point of deviation from the "normal/acceptable" range.

>>51767573
Moot point, as I've never harassed anyone on political grounds whereas many liberalist groups do, daily.
>>
>>51767728
>Modern liberalists/socialists types do not ignore "personal slants", they hunt it down at the first point of deviation from the "normal/acceptable" range.

Your allegiance to the status quo which treats your oppression of others as a matter of course is a problem.
The majority is not allowed the privilege of self-absorption. You are not a philosopher king if you are only out for yourself.
>>
>>51767800
