1996 or 1997, I think?

Dad brought home his laptop and let me use it to look up cheat codes for Doom, Commander Keen, and Heretic,

Broadband in 2002-2003 I think. Shitty dialup for as long as I can remember but almost never used it because it was expensive.
>>
>>51719207
2003-2004, i only know yahoo and google at that time.

around 2004 or 2005
>>
1999 I think. I certainly had it by the time the Dreamcast came out.
>>
in-home: 1996 or 1997 when WebTV got released. Lots of fun on there, joined a few webrings dedicated to WebTV and audioscopes (and html element pcfags couldn't into)

in-general: about 1994 or 1995 my relatives had it and I'd spend all day on their PC looking up rugrats and simpsons wavs
>>
I had it when Walmart had the free AOL online CDs

99 ish. Dial-up with a shitty win98 comp with aol preinstalled. My mom thought it was great because parental blocks n shit protecting my fragile psyche from porn. I remember the day i reaslized IE worked behind aol. So much porn that day, my wrist aches thinking about it.
>>
1999~ -- Shitty dial up, so really wasn't that usable.

2006 -- 1 meg broadband, so finally was able to use the internet.

Are your parents religious nutjobs and/or was it gay porn?
>>
>>51719558
it was girl on girl
My mom is really weird. Like she's really religious but hasn't been to church in like 2 decades. She's very racist and homophobic too but loves the ``cute things'' gay people do on TV. Can't wait until my little brother finally comes out of the closet. I personally know he's gay because he has this gay pride flag thing on his car and as his wallpaper on his phone/computer and I saw a gay porn DVD (kek pleb buys porn) and a dildo in his bedroom once.

No, I decided anime just isn't something I like. Maybe I could have liked it as a child, but I'm too adult now.
>>
>>51719659
the reason i thought you were texan is because your parents were listening to horrible country music in the car

I entered late in the game as far as getting my own connection. Later than all of my friends until ~2007. I'm in my mid 20s in case you're wondering. I would use my friends' PCs for checking MySpace or listening to music. That was my initial inspiration for wanting my own PC. I had a custom PC built for me by some Asian guy that drove a Nissan skyline r34. He went with decent AMD hardware and then I realized there isn't much to do with a PC lacking an internet connection.

I still remember the first thing I did after obtaining access to the triple DUBS. I checked Yahoo's shitty homepage as a test and then my parents said
>ok anon we are leaving to our trip now.
>Don't go on any of those filthy websites ok?

Ok *laughs*

>can't think of anything besides porn after that
>Google 'porn' like a noob
Everything has gone downhill since then. I used to be a normal extrovert with a girlfriend. Now I'm more serious and quiet. Spiraled into depression as a teen. Read every Goddamn Wikipedia article known to man as a teen. I'm 'addicted' to porn.

Now I'm reading 'The Game' to gain control over my sex life.

Thanks for tuning in /g/

1997, I was 16. Good times, but there's only so much you can do with a 56k (4.5kb/s up/down) connection... Porn was *really* low-res and 16bit colored back then...

introduced in 2006 at a friends house while she was watching youtube. didnt personally use it myself until 2011.

btw I actually live at work. Last 2 weeks my shortest shift (except a 10 minute one) was 9.8 hours. These shift lengths even subtract my lunch breaks.
You can see, I'm at work about 12 hours a day on average

about 2001 / 2002 I got my own pc with internet connection (was my brothers old build)

I remember having to wait about 10 min to load dragon ball z color in pictures which i would then print and go to town on. ( I was 10 at the time btw)

And later being frustrated when you're trying to fap but the fucking picture took forever to load.

1993, dad worked in IT

Have a distant memory of watching porn onon Win 3.11, where it would take several minutes to load a shitty JPEG chunk by chunk on our modem (and later ISDN) connection.

But only had one computer at home with an inet connection until we finally got wireless some time around 2002 or 2003.

If you read the print on the sticker, I think there's a subscription program where they will replace your internals every two years, which I guess is what the "never obsolete" is referring to.
>>
1995 I think. We upgraded from MSDos to Windows 95 with AOL. I had absolutely no idea what the internet even was but being a latchkey kid I slow figured out on my own how to use the thing and how it worked. Had to learn to use the dial up too. That was a nightmare when you had a teenage sister in the house always on the phone. Fuck, I did not realize how much my parents were not around until now.
>>
>>51720552
I wonder if there are still people who pay that $99 every two years and get an upgrade or if the program has been completely abandoned.
>>
>>51720689
They probably went out of business ages ago.

2004-2005 I'm not entirely sure

EMachines? As far as I know, EMachines, Gateway and Acer were all lumped into one company somehow. I'm not sure of the details, as they still all sell PCs under their own name, but their support and some of their software are lumped together. My Gateway laptop originally had some Acer power management software on it, the same goes for a neighbors EMachines laptop.

That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if a program like this still exists. Or course, it's only available to original participants, and most likely wouldn't be offering upgrades o PCs purchased today.
