Is there anything cool I can do with it to show I'm not a big prick? I already have huge 1080p TV's in all my rooms and very little space to use a projector anyway.

Was about to say that. My uni has those for presentation in study rooms and other smaller uses and they actually have a decent resolution and are fine for watching movies and stuff. I borrowed one from the IT department for a week once and used it to watch movies on it.
Watch a movie with the landwhale every time it asks you for your projector, it'll be happy. Or else ask for a refund and get some cool shit, it'll understand.

DLP is the best for watching 3d content.
While it may say 480p is the native resolution, you can change the it to 1280x720 or 1920x1080 and it will still look pretty good
