Pretty much everything replaces PHP. What you replace Apache with will depend on what you choose.

Java, C# and Python are probably the best serverside languages to use right now. C# still works best on Windows, though. Even though .net core now works on OS X and Linux, I doubt that Kestrel is really ready for production...
