You have it all wrong. The important content is the reasonable criticism that comes out of these threads.

Not optimal usage of things, isn't it?

Here's a budget build I made for a friend two Black Fridays ago.

If I remember, I had to stretch the front panel I/O cables as far as I could because this cheap-ass case decided to save money with short cables; that's why there's a cable awkwardly diagonal. The rear fan also had a molex connector permanently attached so you can actually see it right under the mobo, fucking Deepcool Tesseract case.

NXZT makes the best budget cases if you ever manage to find one from $30-$40, everything else will only bring you pain.

Just do whatever you can, and BELIEVE. Use EVERY SINGLE hole you can from anywhere to route cables.

For this build, I sneaked all those PSU cables through a tiny 1'' hole. Besides the large ATX cable, this build would've looked disgusting with spaghetti everywhere. Fucking $30 budget cases man, there's a backplate, but it's almost solid and has less than half an inch of clearance.

Just believe and any piece of shit case can work.

I put this together the other day, but I didn't put too much effort into cable management.

I really want to get custom cables, but I'm not sure where to get them from. I want to go the whole way and cut my own lengths, but I don't want to pay a fortune.
Are there any issues with compatibility, or is everything standard?

I am assuming you are asleep, my shift will be over soon so I will try to work on it some more then. I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly

i've got this:

void loadEntityPrototype(lua_State *vm, int prototype, const char *path) {
luaL_dofile(vm, path);
lua_pushnumber(vm, prototype);
lua_getglobal(vm, "prototype");
lua_settable(vm, LUA_REGISTRYINDEX);
}

I assume I use it before anything else (like use it in my main function)

I ran it like so:

loadEntityPrototype( LS, 0, "./objTest.lua" );

inside that objTest.lua is (what you had given me earlier, unchanged)

prototype = {
new = function()
return {
name = "Sample",
foo = 0
}
end,

update = function(self)
self.foo = self.foo + 10
end,

draw = function(self)
return "%s(%d)":format(self.name, self.foo)
end
}

anyways, i've made me a new entity but it crashes because the table index is nil. so im sure it's not the code, im sure i'm not putting something in correctly

at this point I just need to know if I am doing it wrong still

The cooler is garbage, it's very loud and not very efficient. Should've just gotten a Noctua or 212 EVO. The front panel needs to be taken off when gayman so that the air flows better. Liquid cooling pairs very badly with this case, which of course I didn't think of when buying it. The airflow sucks ass anyways, it just looks pretty.

If it's just going to be a stream and video capture machine, the 250d is an overkill case. They're like $80/$90, and quite big for mITX. I'd recommend looking into a Silverstone SG13 or a Coolermaster or something. The 250d really wouldn't be worth the extra money.

This >>51706768 fag here. Here are my two other computers that I don't really use for anything. They're mostly cobbled together from old parts. Smallest is the oldest, I've recently started to refurbish it. It had a Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66ghz in it, but I got a Core 2 Quad Q8300 for pocket change and tomorrow I'm going to get 8 gigs of DDR2 for it, used of course. It's a small project of mine, the final slice is to get an SSD for it, the 320gb maxtor it's using is from 2007 and it's slow. It's using my spare 7870, aim is to BF4 playable. Already fires the game up but it runs out of ram. The other computer is pretty much my previous computer from 2011.

Specs (older first)

Core 2 Quad Q8300
Asus P5K
2 gb of KVR, 2 gb of HyperX (2 of each) DDR2
XFX 7870 Core Edition
320gb Maxtor HDD
500gb slow as shit Seagate HDD from an old external HDD
CX430

A little untidy because I'm going to be working on it soon.

i5 760
Asus P7P55D
8gb of Corsair something DDR3
Asus R9 270X
120gb OCZ Vertex SSD
XFX Core 650 PSU

This big one I use for media, it's connected to my TV. It's quiet and performs well. Define XL case actually doesn't look that out of place next to the TV.

Not bad anon! Only component I don't like is the Corsair PSU. I'm wary of them.

1.265v is rather high for 4.6ghz don't you think? Most chips I've seen will do that at 1.24v - 1.24v. Have you tried back the voltage down?
>>
>>51707543
1.24v - 1.25v I mean. oopsie
>>
>>51707543
turns out it is running at 1.256v. :) havent checked since its been running smooth for about 8 months. but i thought over 1.3v was high? im not sure.
I have faith in the psu ,though. rm850s were made by channel well tech
>>
>>51707705
Well yea, 1.3v is more or less the absolute upper limit most people go by. I've just seen a lot of 4690k's doing that same frequency at a lower voltage, so I thought I'd ask. 1.256v is certainly much better than 1.265v though, so that's good. Couldn't hurt to try taking it down just a tad though!

My AMD sempron build
>Sempron 3850 1.3ghz quad core - $30
>Asrock am1 mitx board - $0.01
>Single 4gb stick of ddr3 1600mhz (APU can only handle single channel) - $15
>Samsung 850 EVO 250gb ssd - $70
>Spare Seagate 750gb HDD - Free from old machine I worked on
>CM elite 110 - $40.
>Diamond R5 230 (Since I'm driving a 1440p panel don't want the sempron to choke.)

All in all I spent less than $200. Got this build to leave on 24/7. Whole system uses maybe 15w at idle. Using it for when I get home from work and all I want to do is watch a movie/anime. There is no reason for me to fire up my overclocked gaming machine for that.

Spaghetti mess coming up next

For what reason? Why on Earth were cases so tall? What's the point of all that space above the PSU? Can you put 2 PSU's in that case?

>It's better for the fan to face the floor if you don't have a carpet.
Why?
>>
>>51711005
PSU fans are intake. If it is facing the floor, it gets fresh air from outside the case. If the fan is pointing inside the case, it draws whatever air it can from inside the case. If you have carpet, the PSU will suffocate and run hot unnecessarily because it is struggling to pull in air.

If you're not on carpet, I don't know why that guy is saying your PSU is wrong. Looks fine to me.

Today I upgraded the potato machine and it's running BF4 better than consoles.

Went from a core 2 duo e6750 to a core 2 quad Q8300 and 4 gigs of ddr2 to 8 gigs of ddr2. Made the computer entirely useable for pretty much all of my needs. If my main computer(s) broke down it wouldn't even matter that much.

Keeping my LGA775 machine around for this reason. With a quad core CPU, it wouldn't even matter much if my current machine died. I also have an AM3 Phenom II machine I got for free laying around.

Many of the games I play today ran fine on my old LGA775 board with an E7600. Guess It'd be even better with a Q9550 or similar.

I bought the case knowing it was more expensive than i needed it to be. I just asked /guts/ what a good case is for first time builders with good cable management and air flow. The 500r is exactly that. I also mainly asked about cable management / assembly of a pc because i had never done it before.

/guts/ didn't help me select parts, just to build. Also I think it's a pretty good mobo for the price. Not good for oc-ing but I never planned to.
