If you want to cut down on the icons on the homescreen, I recommended keeping at most 5 icons on home screen: Phone, Messenger or Email, Menu, App of your choice, and internet browser. Doesn't have to be exactly like this though. You want your most used applications on your home screen so that its easier to access. Or, just use your imagination.

You honestly don't need folders. That's what your menu is for. You can move applications individually from that menu depending on what launcher you have (NOVA?) As I said, you only need a few apps on your home screen and place them either vertically like you did or Horizontally. Then change you menu (assuming you are running NOVA again) through the settings to list mode (I like this one the best since it works well with one handed use). I suppose if I didn't know those icons were folders you could just keep them but I find it to be non intuitive.

The scroll menu has a search bar that helps search for the specific app (not to mention the list is alphabetized). You can easy get NOVA through other means if you are not all against piracy. I used to be a folders guy too since I like to organize my stuff in folders on PC. It jut something you have to adapt to but its for the better once you get used to it.
