I have a desktop pc (windows) and a tablet. I'm not a student, so why would I need a laptop?
>>
>>51684989
I prefer my t420 meme. I've had macs in the past (including a 17" unibody) but I'd rather have my $175 laptop that I can use for maybe another 8 years before it becomes unusable in everyday tasks such as YouTube and web browsing, than a $1000+ machine that will probably break within 3 years.

So is every other experiment to detect dark matter, gravity waves and multi-verse theory.

In the end, the equations fall apart without an instigator, a creator. Whenever I see these documentaries on cosmology and how they make stupid excuses when faced with tough questions about what have they proved and why their predictions about inflation and matter have all been proven wrong, they got literally nothing.

Billions of dollars and monopoly over scientific knowledge and still they can't prove that the Universe can exist without God.

They don't have to because the existence of a god is as ridiculous as proving our creator is not a giant flying spaghetti monster (which is more likely than the christian god btw).

>So is every other experiment to detect dark matter
There's no debate about whether or not dark matter exists though. We can see it bending light where there is apparently nothing. The debate is WHAT dark matter is.

>gravity waves
Based on what you just wrote before this, it's pretty obvious you don't understand how weak gravity is and how insanely hard that makes detecting gravity waves.

That's an interpretation of wave function collapse. It's not really something you can falsify so it's outside the realm of science.

This old argument is lame and no longer viable counter considering how cornered these theoretical physicists and cosmologists have become.

They are pulling things out of their ass, claiming the existence of another set of 24 sub-atomic particles with the opposite charge to the point even their own peers are mocking them for being complacent and out of touch with reality.

Religious theory of existence has stood the test of time and remains consistent. Meanwhile scientist revise their numbers every week and can't seem to reconcile the standard model. Forget answering the big questions like origin of matter and life, this is an embarrassment.

There is no way cosmology can recover from this spectacular failure.

>Religious theory of existence has stood the test of time and remains consistent. Meanwhile scientist revise their numbers every week and can't seem to reconcile the standard model. Forget answering the big questions like origin of matter and life, this is an embarrassment.
Religious theory is based on FAITH. Like faith that marry was not a fucking whore who forced joseph to raise a bastard while pretending she never got her twat rammed by jamal.

Just accept it when we need an actual answer we turn to science not religion. Religion is a joke founded by the fear of the unknown and the human imagination. When smallpox broke out we turned to scientists for the vaccine not priests. When we needed something to quickly rekt nip's shit we turned to scientists not priests.

Science may get things wrong but it's able to correct itself and move one. The same can't be said for religion. Everything is wrong in the beginning and stays that way for centuries.
>>
>>51686531

>>
>>51686564
Religion and philosophy bring forward theories, science becomes to tool for discovery to find out if they are true. By the method of elimination, every other scientific theory has left us with a dead end, so by default the religious and philosophical point of view becomes more valid because it does provide a beginning and an end of everything including origin of life.

We did not evolve from apes, I refuse to believe this ridiculous assumption. Its not my fault if christian clergymen have misguided people into thinking prayers are a replacement for vaccines and medicine, prayer and other rituals are symbolic and spiritual in nature, they have no real world applications.

You need to filter out the mysticism which has been embedded by humans to see what exactly God wanted to convey to us in a logical manner.

She was set on the macbook, all that stuff doesn't matter. Most of the appeal of apple products is not the specs, but rather that its an apple product.
It doesn't matter if its some 1:1 clone that Lenovo made, if its not an apple product it doesn't matter.
People want to fit in/be part of that special club

And honestly, there is no point in trying to change their minds, so what if they save $400 if they won't be nearly as happy with that other laptop.

Personally I would like to see the same graph broken down by how much people paid for their laptops.

Like what percent of issues from each manufacter come from which price points ?
Maybe then we might be able to see that shitty cheap laptops are the ones that break down the most Or that price has nothing to do with quality and the manufacturer sucks.

In my experience, Apple has not been a reliable laptop manufacturer. After 2 years of use, my 2009 Macbook Pro managed to have a failing hard disk controller. That is, it was not the easily replaceable hard drive itself that had failed, but the motherboard, which was communicating with it. I know for certain that the problem was hardware related, because the problem persisted after switching hard drives, and after reinstalling the operating system.

Beyond this, I have found that the chassis was easily dented, the screen easily cracked, and the CPU, easy to overheat. A number of these problems have yet to be addressed in subsequent revisions of the Macbook Pro.

While no laptop I have owned has been perfect, none have had as many problems in such a short amount of time as Apple. The one thing I could reasonably give them credit for is magsafe, as it prevents a problem where the laptop being knocked over or the cord being tripped on causes the port on the inside of the laptop to become knocked loose, or damaged in a similar manner. However, this benefit is very easily overshadowed by the fact that the cords themselves are designed very poorly, leading to many of them wearing away the shielding very quickly. Beyond this, the cords are expensive to replace. If we take the difference in costs between buying one power cord which will presumably be used for the entire life of the laptop, versus the more expensive magsafe (which one may end up purchasing twice over the course of the laptop's natural life), and divide by the probability of destroying a laptop by tripping over the cord, we may very well end up with it being cheaper to buy a replacement laptop than to use magsafe.

Around 2005 I bought an iPod and extended warranty. Two days after the warranty expired, it died.

Also iTunes was a clunky hunk of shit, and I'm not a graphic artist so I never felt the need to own one.

When I was young and impressionable, macbooks (ibooks) weren't really a big deal yet. Most college kids used whatever.

So it never got ingrained in my head that I had to own an Apple computer to show everyone I wasn't poor. Nowadays I just can't stand their shallow garbage keyboards that the entire industry seems to be adopting.

This is the only reason I bought a mac. I have to get the fucking charger replaced every 6 months, but the device itself is solid.
Even after a year and a half the hinges are still as strong as on day one, and that's my biggest per peeve about laptops.

This all said, there are a million reasons these things are fucking shit and you should keep clear, from the hardware specs, cooling, and apple made software, it's just shit.
But after I had a machine in for repairs for a month only for the shits to finally realize they got an email on the first day saying the device was no longer supported, only acknowledging this after I fucking called all the distributors for them, I was fucking sick of it. You can't complain about botnets if you're using an x86 system, especially an Intel x86 system.
That being said, the "bullsbit" can be ignored. Hell, you can even just boot straight Darwin if you want.

You mean $1200 worth of specs. You don't care if the keyboard flexes, if the screen has a shitty gamut, if the speakers are quiet and tinny, or anything like that. It's 2015. Even a T60 can fill most people's needs.

To the people who say that Apple cords are fine as long as you don't treat them badly: you are fucking nuts and just plain stupid. Half the people I know own a mac or iPhone and each of them has lightning cables and chargers that look exactly like the picture. I've never actually seen one in decent shape before. If your cable lasts less than a year for an average person then you failed at product design. If there is some tiny minority that is so diligent that they manager to have a pristine cable for 10 years that is fucking irrelevant. apple wasn't always like this with laptops
brother of mine gave me his old G3 iBook from 2001 (the white dual-USB one)
most components were user replaceable -- battery, wifi card, one of the RAM banks (max 512MB + the 128MB on the board, so 640MB RAM), keyboard -- everything but the damn hard-drive (where you literally had to strip the entire machine down to replace it, would still have it if I could have put in a bigger drive, that 10GB was miserably small)

I have a thoughts.

>ipad pro

"pro" means professional, correct? Unless apple has their own patented definition for that word, this has lead me to believe that a particular ipad is considered "professional". "Professional". Professional what, exactly? I'll admit, I do not know the specs of any of the ipads and I don't care at all about tablets, but what does apple consider professional in relation to an ipad? What do users? I see them sometimes utilized in cash register settings which seems hassle free, but a cashier is not usually considered a professional. Thoughts? Shills welcome!

I work at an apple repair shop and i can confirm that macs are fairly reliable machines overall.

Here's what i've seen fail a lot on these machines, excluding the typical HDD(they always use the shittiest drives around) and battery, dented metal or chipped plastic, broken LCD, liquid damage on keyboard, cracked trackpad, or the stupid firmware issues(SMC & PRAM)

2006 polycarb macbook:
-video chip issues(similar to the HP dv600 video chip issues). Usually overheating related(apple has shit coolers)
-charging curcuit issues. usually caused by some sort of short, surge, or idiots using fake crappy adapters
-some units came with a small coating of what i thinm is lithium grease on its ram sticks. fucking bizarre, it causes issues over time.
-mouse button fucks up over time due to repeated use

2008 ploycarb macbook:
-video chip again
-charging curcuit again
-the fucking rubber mat that doubles as its feet and bottom lid gets loose and shitty like an overused vagina
-mouse can crack and fuck up if you have a bloating battery, although they sometimes just stop responding on certain parts
-mouse button fails

Macbook pro pre-2008:
-Video chip again
-charging circuit again
-mouse gets fucked sometimes if the battery bloats too much
-serious battery bloating issues(worth mentioning)
-one of the ram slots fucks up due to the use of shitty lead-free solder
-mouse button fails

macbook pro:
-video chip
-charging circuit
-hard drive cable. i shit you not. a fucking cable fails. This is what caused >>51687851
's machine to fuck up.
-mouse sometimes just stops functioning.
-wifi circuitry fucks up sometimes. On i5 and up machines its replacable but on older C2D machines its on the board.
-its rare, but sometimes the ram slot fucks up
-mouse button fails
-USB ports become loose easier than normal, and audio ports

2008 macbook air:
-charging circuit
-not as often, but video chip
-batteries bad lots of bloating issues which warped the frame sometimes
-shittier than normal HDD. they used a fucking ipod HDD(1.8" IDE)
-the little USB/audio jack moving hood shit would fail for mehcianical reasons
-FUCKING TERRIBLE HINGES. this is really worth mentioning

2010+ macbook air:
-charging circuits
-mice sometimes fails
-mouse button sucks
-SSD's aren't the best in the world and can fuck up sometimes.

retina MBP:
-older units had screen burn-in problems and the oleophobic coating sometimes got scraped off by the keyboard when the lids closed
-charging circuit fucks up but not as often
-SSD isn't the greatest thing and sometimes fucks up. Good luck finding proper aftermarket ones for that odd connector

Video chip, storage issues, batteries, busted glass and charging circuit fuckups are definetly the biggest 5 failure points. All the video chip machines used nvidia chips with terrible cooling

Newer machines look more reliable, but not enough time pas passed to confirm.

the difference between macs and PCs is pretty much this.
it costs little to repair, and you can upgrade bits and pieces at will.

macfags have to buy a new device completely.
>>
>>51691020
>>51691050
Lessons for you all to improve your machine
1: clean out all dust from the vents all the time. It's easier on newer machines, but if you dont want your video chip to fuck up then do it
2: replace the HDD with something better. SSD is a bonus. i dont give a fuck about your shit on there, just restore it during install or clone it.
3: replace the ram. Many macbooks support faster ram and higher capacities than what they advertise, but certain sticks dont work. It'll be good overall. perfect time to clean ram slot too.
4: replace your batteries after about 800+ cycles, or if it starts to complain/mouse starts to not click well(shittier travel)
5: dont fucking drop it, or step on it, or spill shit on it. Dont let it near bugs or animals, pet hairs and dead roaches are fucking nasty
6: NEVER use fake adapters. they will die and sometimes take the machine with them.
7: OSX 10.6 is the best version of OSX for pre-2011 machines. 2011+, it's 10.7/10.8
8: reduce your consumption of phallic objects and wash your hands after you eat shit

>fairly reliable
>lists THE FUCKING USB PORT BEING LOOSE

are you fucking kidding me.
that shouldnt even be an issue.

>mouse button fails
i propose a simple solution for that.
if you have 2 buttons they'll last twice as long!
oh wait.

the machines themselves are fairly reliable, but some have just the dumbest issues. Many machines wont fuck up, but when they fuck up it'll be one of what i just listed. Mouse buttin fails because the metal dome gets fucked up over time. tap to click fixes it, or replacing the whole touchpad(since the button is on the underside of the pad)

I bought a memebook before I came out to NC, while it's nice to use it I honestly find myself not using it often as my x240 cause I'm so worried about scratching the screen it since I spent such much on it. To me it's like a garage queen, you'll talk so much shit that you own it but you don't use it enough to justify the purchase in the long run

just my anecdotal evidence senpai

get a case/film to cover up the metal and use a rubbber keyboard cover so it doesnt scratch the glass. It'll look like new years from now.
>>
>>51691295
same can be said of pretty much any machine out there.

IMO macs are for the tech illiterate.

>>51691302
as a general rule, if you are afraid of damaging it, you probably shouldnt have bought it in the first place.

but there are steps you can take:
1. buy a sleeve for it
2. screen protector
3. keyboard cover
4. laptop stickers, to cover exterior against stains.

i have something similar for my surface pro 4.
- STM case, protects against drops, scratches, etc
- tempered glass screen cover
- sleeve

should cover all faults.
if anything goes wrong, i call microsoft support and get it replaced. (assuming its a hardware issue. which it is)

ONE LAST THING. REPLACE THE FUCKING THERMAL PASTE. the one that they provide is the biggest steaming pile of shit.

macs by themselves are for the tech illiterate, but since it's running a BSD/unix hybrid, it can support your typical loonix shit with a bit of tweaking (homebrew nigga). SOme things are completely idiot (window buttons are useless. they don close, fullscreen takes up the whole screen, minimize is redundant due to close button not closing)

>>51691440
id recommend a mac to any idiot, but a proper PC to those who look like they have half a brain. I deal with these humans shit all day long and their stupid ass problems, and a lot of them are attributed to misuse. fucking idiots yank out cords, put strain on them, use shitty 3rd party shit, drop machines, drink shit near them, etc. Macs, in and of themselves, are great machines, but its usually idiotic customers that fuck them up. That and repairability is expensive, albeit possible. MBP is still the most upgradable machine ever made by them, next to the old mac pro.

i too have a probook from that era. it's a 5 lbs clunky piece of shit that barely got 4 hours of usage. i also bought a macbook air around that time and it danced circles around the probook in battery life, ease of use and productivity. 2 years later i sold that macbook air for $120 less than i paid for it and upgraded to a haswell macbook air which gets 16 fucking hours of battery life. i'm still using it to this day and if i wanted to i could resell it for $700. meanwhile my garbage probook runs like crap despite having maxed ram and SSD, the hinges are coming apart, barely get 2 hours of battery life on the 2nd set of HP official replacement batteries I bought for it and worst of all: if i wanted to off-load it on the second hand market i would only get $100 for it.

demand is pretty high for macbooks in my area. you see C2D models still going for $500. besides i don't think i even need to upgrade until the next major refresh.

>use ios 9 on ipad 2, laggy as shit and makes you feel like wanting to kill yourself or buying a new iPad
>use a custom rom of lollipop 5.1 on galaxy s2, smooth as fuck, no lag whatsoever
>>
>>51691607
i mean the hp. C2D models still go for 500 which is insane, but you can get lucky with broken models that have stupid issues such as HDD, shit battery or cracked touchpad(these are easy to fix)

i have an ipad why would i need a macbook?
>>
I haven't used my iPad ever since I got my rMBP
>>
>>51691655
I have a launch iPad 1 which i use explicitly for reading mango, and occasional text books & light novels in PDF format. light browsing too. i use it everyday, but have not had the urge to upgrade to a newer model. tbqh i find myself browsing on my macbook more, but nothing beats the comfy of reading on a tablet

>I wanted a macbook
>I got a Lenovo U400 macbook clone instead
>ran like shit, bios imploded and wouldn't boot after reinstalling windows, felt cheap, hinge floppy, sharp sides of the notebook aluminum dug into my wrists

It's like it wanted me to an hero, but then I got a real job, and bought a macbook pro
