When will there be a /g/ CTF team? It would be easy to start one and we could start competing immediately for online CTFs.

MODS, CTF IS EXTREMELY TECHNOLOGY RELATED. PLEASE LOOK AT WHAT IT IS BEFORE DELETING THIS.
Bump because I know some people would be interested.
Sounds cool, but I'm a retard.

Well you can learn ya know.
What is this, like what would we be doing together?
>>51686475
It's hacking/pen-testing in a competitive format:
https://ctftime.org/ctf-wtf/
The most famouse being:
https://www.defcon.org/html/links/dc-ctf.html
Here is an intro video/talk as well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-9szbSUpCg
And here is a wargame to get you started (pretty much ctf practice/their own thing with similar goals):

I looked into it a bit, I'm not really proficient but I want to learn. Is there a way for me to sit in on competitions and learn with the team? Almost like a spectator
>>51686554
Same
>>51686554
Yep, I think that is just called 'being part of the team' dude. I'm a n00b myself; a Networking student who enjoys hacking as a hobby (and the type of coding involved with hacking as opposed to software development) and would like to get into pen-testing as a career eventually, so I too would be using this as a learning opportunity. So I guess the key is to find some more elite folks to get on board as well.
Pretty much all that needs to be done is set up a Slack/IRC channel/whatever to communicate; come up with a name, enter and do our best and learn in the process.
Also www.vulhub.com is full of vulnerable machines to practice on, the best beginners one I think being https://www.vulnhub.com/entry/kioptrix-level-1-1,22/
Also this book:

>Slack/IRC channel/whatever to communicate
Just realized we could also just use a thread on here for that; depending on how competitive we feel (ie: not wanting other teams to see). I don't care about that all that much as I don't expect to be champions (at least not yet!) and sharing is how people learn.
When do we start
>>51686682
I was thinking about this one:

>>51686745
>>51686682
Here's an example of a cool/interesting problem from last one:
https://u.osu.edu/romig.1/2015/03/02/boston-key-party-haymarket-write-up/
Looks cool. "#FSOCIETY" kek. what's it mean by Jeopardy?
>>51686800
In summary:
Jeopardy is "pick problems off a board to do try" and attack/defend is "patch your server while trying to get flags from other peoples, while they attack you and try to patch their own".
Sounds badass. Unfortunately I only know HTML/CSS and not a lot about UNIX.
>>51684898
>/g/ team
you would be giving flags to the other teams for free. why?
>>51687179
Addressed that here:
>>51686660
A Slack would be best though I think.
Let's make a slack
>when
Sorry bud, there has never been ever group cohesion here.
>>51684898
>>>/v/

Read OP's post again. This also concerns you: CTF IS EXTREMELY TECHNOLOGY RELATED. PLEASE LOOK AT WHAT IT IS
>>51687711
That bait...
We're gonna need a bigger boat...
>>51684898
>implying /g/ is able to do anything besides logos
>>51687775
Well then make a team logo.
>>51684898
I'd love to do this but my anxiety would be a hinderance until I felt a little more comfortable. I've been playing with Over the Wire for a little bit now and have been using VulnHub previously. If you get something going, please check back here every now and then. I want to do this, but I have to feel a little more comfortable first.
>>51687828
Well we could always just make a Wargames/CTF thread like this; pick a vulnhub machine or overtehwire wargame or something like that and just help each other out with an honor system of no walkthroughs. That would be a fun start.
>>51687852
Do it. This place has been slow lately so maybe some other bored anons will get motivated to get involved.

Complete idiot team?
>>51687989
Complete asshole ?

Make one, but only allow cock.li and other throwaway email services.
