OSX is the successful cousin. She looks good AND she's productive and useful; the go-to for professionals who want to get stuff done in a pleasant environment.
Linux is the fat neckbeard cousin. He looks like shit and can hardly do anything worthwhile. He spends all day in his bedroom configuring his window manager.
He does, however, have a talent in the server department. People come to him to host their work once they've finished making it with OSX.
They both have kids. Linux somehow got laid with that slut named Google, and out popped a little mobile operating system. After an impromptu shotgun wedding, they named him Android and tried to raise him to respect everyone's freedoms. He's a bit on the slow and heavy side and keeps picking up nasty security vulnerabilities, but he's still more popular than his father ever was.
OSX's kid takes after her in almost every way. iOS specialises quite narrowly, but does her job well and is the choice of anyone who can afford the devices she specifies.

Both of those are not better or more performant than Snow Leopard or Mavericks, and Win7, respectively. I'm glad El Crapsanta works the same as Mavericks on the Haswell Macbook models, because on some older ones, Mavericks is noticeably faster. Tim Cook is going to be the end of OS X. Also, Windows is now about TRENDY FEATURES instead of fixing defects, and the new Windows Update treats all sub-Enterprise users like retards.

Well, first off Linux kernal is on 4.x
Second, those are update numbers chosen by the people behind the project. There is no rule that after a certain amount of change an OS should jump from 10.x.y to 10.x.z or from 3.x to 4.
Also, by your logic Fedora which is at 23 now, is crushing OS X and Windows.
