So the main contenders of this match are
GNU screen and Tmux?
Which should be learned rather than the other and for what reasons?
>>51658105
Go with Tmux since it'll be the thing to replace screen.
want to say tmux but I've literally never used screen (or known anyone who has)
Screen is deprecated shit.
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/wd0/configs/master/tmux/.tmux.conf
Save in your home folder.$ tmux
^ is control
^j is the prefix for a tmux command
^j-c make a new window
^j n switch between windows
^j | split a window into panes
^j j jump between panes
^j ^j also jump between panes
^j x close shit
^j , rename a window
^j d detach from tmux session
$ tmux attach # reconnect to detached tmux session
You can close a terminal without detaching and tmux won't die. It lives in the background waiting to be attached to.
/end tutorial.

Why not just pop another xterm?
>>51659131
For detached sessions like when you're running a seed box with rtorrent and other ncurses programs
what the hell is that i like that screen
>>51659149
Hmm ok, never done that, so I'll take your word for it friend.
>>51659164
If you're talking about the upper right portion I'm pretty sure that's dwarf fortress.
>>51659192
The upper LEFT portion is an older version of Dungeon Crawl

Oh a rouge like thanks man for the clarification, learning curve high for this one?
>>51659272
It's really challenging but the wiki for the game is very comprehensive. I haven't come anywhere close to beating it yet, but I still have fun
