Just got home a Filco M2 and it feels great, but has a terrible ping issue. Any good way to reduce this (and not cover it all in foam)?
>>
Any good keyboards on massdrop currently?
>>
Anyone have a ducky one? I ordered a black one with browns.
>>
>>51652736
Still considering one, although due to the small footprint/frame it looks kind of flimsy. Would appreciate additional opinions and reviews as well.
>>
>>51652867
There really aren't many reviews out there. I had the same concern but I based my purchase off of Ducky's good reputation.
>>
>>51652915
Yeah, I'm probably going to do the same myself. Still, Ducky One is 140 bucks, Shine 4 is 160, Filco MJ2 is 190.
Difficult to find a full-sized and black keyboard without any gamer bling at reasonable prices. Surprisingly.

That spacebar is too cute, really.
>>
>>51652504
you can put a small pad under you board to help with some of the vibration but to get rid of it entirely you need to mod it
there are some guides on it floating around.
my kul pings too but i dont notice it until someone mentions it. you may not notice it after a while. i cut out a lil piece of a towel and fit it under my board and it made everything sound a little quieter too
>>
hey guys, i recently got a few bucks and i wanted a new board
im stuck between the novatouch and the backlit pok3r on massdrop
i want to try out a topre board, but i also wanted to try out a 60% board since i never tried either of them before
will the poker be sold on md again? the novatouch is like 200 full price on other sites and only 130 for right now on md
>>
>>51653064
>RED switches
Okay, probably not Cherry
>50 million clicks
Switches aren't rates in "clicks"
>anti ghosting with 21 key rollover
Those are different things.
>no detachable cable
>probably not RGB leds
>no idea what the keycaps are made of
>who knows what stabilizers they used

Probably not
>>
>>51653236
Up to you and your preferences. 60% isn't all that different except for arrow keys and numpad. Decide if those matter to you.

200 is a lot to drop on a keyboard with switches you haven't tried before. I'd ensure that's the one you really want before purchasing, if you're going topre.
Backlighting is a meme and it isn't even RGB.

The white backplate on the black backlit pok3r looks awful.
>>
>>51653637
do you think i should try the cm switch tester before buying the full topre board?
i guess ill just get the regular poker then. im not really big on lighting to be honest so if they are shit ill just not get them and get the regular board

Nothing, if you want to keep the backlighting.

Is Massdrop the cheapest way for someone to get some brown switches (when they're up)?
>>

if i was to get the maximum length pexon coiled cable, would that be enough to pass around 2.5 feet?
i wanted a nice cable to go with my board but all the cable i see are a lil to short to reach my pc and i cant really tell how long the longest pexon cable would be coiled
>>
SteelSeries 6Gv2 or CoolerMaster QuickFire XT?
Can't even bother getting a mechanical test board to try out which switch I want. I'm thinking about browns, I've only checked reds and they feel a bit soft, I'd like something harder/clickier, also I don't like how they are activated long before you actually hit it down.

I'm genuinely sorry to tell you, but the ducky mini has the LEDs mounted at the front of the switch.

Unless you want to turn the pcb around and reprogram your whole keyboard and probably go to a whole lot of other troubles, you're going to have a hard time getting light through those caps.

They are really nice caps though, using them right now on my Ducky Shine 4 with clears.
>>
>>51654533
You put them on,they make less noise on the downpress. No change on return.Makes keys feel smooth.
Pointless for blues/browns
Great for reds/blacks
>>
>>51654263
International shipping and getting raped by import tax is convenient. I mean, all you have to do is wait and pay money.

I know your pain anon, I'm in Switzerland and I have a keyboard with US layout because muh custom keycaps.
>>
>>51654628
ducky shows them as being on the bottom of the switch.Should be no issue lighting up
>>
>>51654708
>ducky shows them as being on the bottom of the switch
That's exactly what I'm talking about.

The vortex caps have their legends at the top, not at the bottom, since that's where most backlit keyboards have their LEDs.
>>
>>51654751
>front
>bottom
The only thing that might not light up is the number row,the actual numbers.

And light still goes through, specially with bright LED's
>>
>>51655068
Well, of course it will go through, but it'll be far less bright than with top mounted LEDs, to the extent that I'd consider it hardly worth it to get a set of those caps.

Though if you absolutely want something else than the stock caps and you want to keep your backlighting, then yeah, those caps are your best option.

I've never had any issue with importing anything really. I've bought stuff from The Netherlands, Italy, UK, Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, and Japan with no issues. Everything was shipped via airmail and went through customs without a hitch and with no import fees tacked on.

As long as you're not importing plants, hazardous chemicals, or entire shipping containers full of stuff then I think it's kinda rare to have any issues with customs.
>>
>>51655943
>>51655752
I ordered some pin headers kit that came from china. It probably was wrapped with a whole roll of tape. It always makes me laugh when I get things from there because the company name will be in moonrunes then have C/S Rep named Steve/John/Paul

Anon, do yourself a favor. Order a mechanical switch sampler like in the pic, from WASD or wherever. It will remove all doubt from your mind...mechanical keyboards are not a meme.

After five minutes of testing out the sample switches, you'll know which one is right for you. The money will literally fly out of your wallet for your first real keyboard.

Still considering the novatouch since it's cheaper on amazon and has the media control which I use on my shitty K95.

Not sure what most of you guys do for media control on that matter with most of these keyboards.

Only problem it comes with ABS and apparently that won't cut it. Just looking at the PBT they look smoother and seem nicer but I have never actually felt them. Just getting the barebones Novatouch is dumb because you would just replace the media controls with keys that don't show them. Plus the realforce has that simulated numpad.

Metal is uncomfortable as fuck to touch. It's impersonal, cold, hard and inhuman.

Why do you think nearly everything metal you ever touch in life has a wood/leather/cloth/plastic/rubber grabbing surface?

Metal caps sound like a truly awful idea even before you consider the ludicrous production cost.

Anything with reds or blacks, clears if you can find it

Browns are a meme and clicky switches generally aren't recommended for gaymen, but if you really want them then go for it

Avoid razer and corsair like the plague, and kailh switches for poor QC

How is a good keyboard a meme?
>>
>>51660461

This guy is extremely exaggerating.

Certain mechanical keyboards are very nice for typing if you are a very fast typer and want to touch type (read: blues). But most people in these threads can't touch type nor type fast, they're just in it for the "feel" which is indeed an extremely inflated meme. Whole lotta hoopla about nothing much at all -- unless you find the prospect of a clicky switch incredibly exciting in and of itself.

What I'm trying to say here is to be wary of people who inflate the "feel" of mechanical keyboards over their actual utility. They are falling for a meme because it makes them all giddy inside to be a part of some sort of "luxury" or "serious" club. I'm saying that if it weren't for all this trendy hype, they wouldn't be nearly as excited about mechs.

Feel? I prefer the feel of well made rubber domes for gaming. Browns and blues are obviously problematic for the location of their respective actuation points. Blacks and reds are way too linear -- I prefer the variable pressure of rubber domes, it's just something I'm used to. But you'll never hear me yell from the rooftops about it like these retards do about mechanical keyboards. These people are so indoctrinated that it probably can't even get through their thick heads that somebody would prefer rubber domes for any purpose.

Don't fall for the meme and pay way too much for something you may not even like that much.
>>
>>51666346
Rubberdomes don't really give much basis for discussion since you can't do shit with them.

The versatility of mechanical keyboards is what makes them superior to conventional rubber dome keyboards.
>>
>>51666179
Both winkeys, fn key, spacebar size and that extra zero on the numpad.
>>
>>51666346
>Browns and blues are obviously problematic for the location of their respective actuation points

And yet you say you like domes, that only actuate on the very bottom. How the hell can browns and blues be problematic?

OPINIONS ABOUT DAS KEYBOARD 4 PROFESSIONAL???
>>
>>51666744

There's too much linear walk, if that makes any sense to you. With a rubber dome, the resistance is varied, whereas mechanical keyboards have a "set" (linear) resistance to pressure and then suddenly, actuation happens. With a rubber dome, you can feel it coming. In addition, bottoming out (which is simply going to happen all the time if you are gaming) on blues and browns feels weird in comparison to a rubber dome. With browns or blues (especially blues), there's a definitive feeling of bottoming out and going beyond the actuation point, whereas with rubber domes, there's a cushiony feeling down there.
>>
>>51666856
>With a rubber dome, you can feel it coming.

You can do the same with blues and browns.

You can ride the actuation like a trigger.
>>
>>51666856
You sound like you may enjoy clears.
>>

>>
>>51666856
How many of the mechanical switches which you are talking about have you actually used in a proper keyboard?
>>
>>51666913
Depends. Do you want a novatouch?
>>
>>51666886

But the resistance is too linear, as I said. I mean sure, you can do it if you're used to it, but in a high-intensity gaming scenario, I like that variable pressure. It's a bit difficult to explain obviously.

Of course, it depends on the keyboard. Some rubber domes are absolutely atrocious and I want nothing to do with them.
>>
>>51666895

I haven't tried them.

>>51666916

Major cherrys -- red, black, brown, blue. Most of the new Razer's switches (no idea what they call them). Buckle spring throughout my youth. And finally, some sort of unidentified (presumably alps) switches I have in a very old Chicony which feel very similar to blues and are a heaven for fast touch typing.
>>
>>51667023
Do you prefer rubber dome switches only for gaymen or also for overall use?

That seems like an awful lot of keyboards to go through just to end up back at rubber domes.
>>
>>51658746
I picked one up Sunday
Gotta say its really nice for the 50 dollars it currently is/was going for
I don't like the gayming bullshit on it and it takes up a lot of space due to its side pieces jutting out, but the blues are nice and it has good feedback
>>
>>51667045
>Do you prefer rubber dome switches only for gaymen or also for overall use?

Only for gaymen. For overall use, I prefer blues or something similar to them like my Chicony.

Keep in mind I haven't actually bought all of these keyboards containing these switches. Sure, some if I've owned, but some I've simply used a lot because friends and family own them.

Also, I used a topre switch keyboard once but for a very short period of time -- to the point I don't remember the feeling anymore.
>>
>>51658931
Or you can get a nice gayming mouse with extra buttons on it
>>
>>51667118
What kind of games do you play?

I play a lot of Insurgency for which I mostly use a keyboard with browns (clears are too strenuous on the pinky for long sessions).

Getting a keyboard with hotswappable switches and a bag of gateron reds in January, so I'm looking forward to trying linears out on a full board, especially for gaymen.

good choice, I just received my white Shine 4 with MX Clears and it's honestly amazing. Feels sturdier than I thought it would, the build looks incredible, the onboard software is great vs. bloatware. Feels worth double the price of my old blackwiddow.

The only issue I had with it was cost due to the fact that I ordered it from the states and live in Canada (because white shines with anything other than blacks/reds are impossible to find here.) So because of this I payed 160$ plus 40$ shipping which is like 250$ CAD then got charged another 40$ for customs clearance. Fuck Canada.

If you take another kalih blue switch and desolder the switch that's defective and put in the new one it should work again.

Though I'd try just desoldering and resoldering the defective switch first. Chances are that it's just the solder joint that's broken.

It's not really the sheet of metal you're spending the money on. It's just a nice part of the whole keyboard.

Go right with the Ducky and forget the corsair.

The only benefit which the corsair keyboard has is the crazy lighting effects, though those come at the cost of obnoxious software, though the microcontroller is flawed so you'll only get 512 colors on the corsair.

Ducky is known for good build quality and producing quality keyboards. I've got a Shine 4 which I actually opened up just yesterday in order to exchange a clear switch for a black one. Really well built.

The Shine 5 should have everything you're looking for, except for the palm rest. Personally, I recommend just getting an external palm rest or folding up a small towel and using that (I do this and it's really comfy).

Ducky is Taiwanese by the way. Their keyboards are produced in Taiwan too.

In case you're wondering, almost all mechanical keyboards are produced in Asia.
>>
>>51669568
what headphones is that amplifier powering?
>>
>>51672069
I can vouch on Taiwanese QC. Taiwan makes a ton of precision parts that you can't do in PRC, and the process of precision Aluminium machining that Apple used for the Macbook came about in Taiwan. Ducky itself is reputable.

If you are like me and got the Corsair meme, then watch out for flickering. I guess we could've done worse and got ourselves Razer (don't do it)
>>
>>51672069
>In case you're wondering, almost all mechanical keyboards are produced in Asia.

>>
>>51672300
It's not /pol/. Taiwan and China PRC are different economic entities. What can be manufactured in Taiwan is different from what is expected of PRC in aforementioned precision machining for one. Taiwan is interesting in that R&D cost is cheaper due the high number of SME, its density and the close proximity of testing laboratories to the manufacturing facilities, but you pay a premium to manufacture products in Taiwan from labor cost alone.
