All sd cards and usb memory sticks are built on cheap, bottom of the barrel memory chips that can flake out at any time. you should consider them disposable, like floppy disks.

This , remember the reporting bias in on-line reviews. Users who have problems are far more likely to leave reviews than those who have no problems. Just buy a card from a major manufacturer that has a warranty. Then back up all unique files on the card. Use rsync for android if you don't want all your stuff 'in the cloud'.

My 32gb EVO actually died after less than one month. Amazon took care of getting me a refund, but just be wary.
They don't die. They simply become corrupt which is usually from the device shutting off unexpectedly (power loss) while the card is inserted and being accessed.
Simply plug it into a computer and do an integrity check aka chkdsk for Windows.
