It is funny how you guys freaks out about NSA spying on you. In reality your data is in safer hands with them than to be with some random company.

You download everyday a stupid Chinese game on your iPhone™ without reading the term of use and guess what? You are giving them access to your contacts, text, photo etc etc

I mentioned Chinese games but in reality it is for all the apps for Android or iOS. Bank apps etc.

I hear people encrypting their phone, use VPN on their stupid phone and still install a shitload of apps without reading term of use. You can download "trusted" company apps if you want but there will be always a rogue employee that'll fuck that up.
>>
>>51622750
A different country is far less likely to do anything with that information.
>>
>>51622750
I don't think this post could project any harder.
>>
The issue is less about the average person being spied on than the fact that a rogue agency has obtained everyones communications. This puts them at the top of the food chain. They answer to nobody including congress or heads of state anywhere on earth. This kind of unchecked power is very dangerous to say the least.
>>
>>51623117
>rogue agency
I understand your point of view but I don't believe NSA is a rogue agency. I know the power they have and what can be done with it. Yes, they might need more regulations.
>>
>>51623117

This right here makes me worry about the future of our country much more than any other issue facing us today.

They have dirt on every politician. If they try to regulate them, it'll be like what happened in Rome.
>Are you threatening me, Senators?
>>
>>51623607
you think only one person will ask for regulations? are they going to be NSA vs all?
>>
>>51623687
>NSA vs all?
Apparently so.
>>
sure I don't want them sifting through my dick pics but when other countries are getting blown to shit I have to say I'd rather be under their comb than dead right now. is it wrong? in a lot of ways yes. do we have anything to worry about? probably not. they don't give a fuck how much porn we watch or that we torrent. if you are embarrassed or scared than start buying magazines and paying for media. they have much much bigger fish to fry. in the end they seem like a necessary evil. besides, anybody who carelessly did whatever they wanted online anyway who doesn't think that they are being monitored because "muh rights" is a fucking retard. the NSA isn't even close to the only agencies and corporations or countries that do this.
>>
>>51623831

They are the Senate. They'll use their emergency power to create a new surveillance state.
>>
>>51623831
We are derailing for the OP issue here. NSA is a government agency. You want to protect yourself from them when you are giving free access to your data to all the stupid companies with an app installed on your phone. Most of them are overseas companies. Most apps are made in India and you cry NSA.
People are just paranoid NSA will use the data to dominate the world.
You guys must be insane. There is an Indian guy somewhere who has access to all your fucking info without any security whatsoever.
>>
>>51623946
And yet NSA cries that we should stop the general public from using encryption. Why?
>>
>>51623967
Good point. I don't agree with that at all.
>>
>>51623946
That Indian guy doesn't have legal authority to instigate federal investigations into your activities.

It's the difference between security of freedom and security of assets.

"If you don't have anything to hide..."
>>
>>51624092
What does it have to do with federal investigations? If the government starts an investigations into your activities means you are a suspect criminal right?

I am more worried someone from overseas has access to all my informations and they use "helping troubleshoot" their stupid app as an excuse for them to collect them.
>>
I have no proof, but I wouldn't be surprised if the NSA relationship with big tech companies looks something like this:
taxes_owed = profit-level_of_data_sharing_with_nsa+data_received_from_nsa
>>
>>51622750
>You are giving them access to your contacts, text, photo etc etc
Not true. On iOS, apps have to ask permission for each of those things individually after install.

On Android, it's a different story. Android lets appmakers abuse you however they wish.

>without reading term of use.
Stop saying "term of use" you moron.
>>
>Being on /g/
>Owning an iPhone

Nice meme
>>
>>51624179
ask AT&T.
>>
>>51624179

Big tech companies already have your data and they are selling it already for marketing. I don't see the issue if NSA buys their info since anybody can.
You can agree big tech companies don't have the same level of security NSA have. I am not only talking about cybersecurity but employee with top secret clearance.

Also with systems like Tempora I don't think NSA is so desperate for any companies help.

Please use whitespace appropriately when writing expressions.
>>
>>51624254
what should i call it then?
>>
>>51624290
Oh... please fix it for me expression guy. I did realize that after I posted, most people probably would mistake the '-' character as a hyphen vs minus, so your point is valid.
>>
>>51624162
Right, well think about it, what makes you suspect?
All this extra data provides more material for a narrative. Coincidence could land some anon on their radar if they visited the wrong sites or talked to the wrong people.
>>
>>51624315
How about
taxes_owed = profit * (1 - data_contrib_net_pct)
>>
>>51624337
I would hope everyone posting ITT takes this into consideration. You can just adopt a fuck-it attitude and post whatever is on your mind. Do you dare do that anon? Are you really anon? No.
>>
>>51624310
Terms of use. TERMS. WITH AN S.

LEARN ENGLISH.
>>
>>51624392
That would work assuming that data contributed is worth the same as data received. Somehow, I doubt that would be the case.
>>
You're right that in most people's threat models, large internet corporations like Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and so on, should be higher on the list than the NSA. The stuff you do to defend against the corporations means less information about you gets caught in the Five Eyes' dragnet though, since for bulk data they naturally look first at places where bulk data accumulates - like Google, Facebook...
>>
>>51624414
I am discussing one particular term of use. I am not interested in all of them.
>>
>>51624439
>Google, Facebook, etc. are scarier than the NSA because they give their data to the NSA anyway
baka senpai
>>
>>51624439
This.
>>
>>51624485
You know that to detect a term of use that you disagree with, you have to read all of them, right?

You wrote:
>You download everyday a stupid Chinese game on your iPhone™ without reading the term of use
Do you really think apps come with only 1 term of use, or are you so dumb that you can understand a contract by cherry-picking one term in it?

Do you just read the first item on a restaurant's menu and suddenly know everything that the restaurant has to offer?

No, you don't.
>>
>>51624539
I was being sarcastic. I know I made a mistake. You fell for it tho.

I admitted my fault already. I am sorry I didn't include the letter S in terms of service. I am sorry I triggered you.
>>
>>51624092
You're wrong. Corporations buy politicians who are supposed to control these govt agencies. If Disney is fed up with people downloading their shit for free(pirating), don't think for a second these corporation won't ask for "favors" in return. At this point, big corporations can have almost anyone investigated and/or arrested.....and give the agencies capabilities, have evidence gathered or even planted. With how morally corrupt *our* politicians and corporation exes are, I'm certain this type of thing has already happened. Ever wonder why there have been few MAJOR discoveries in the last 50 years? (cures for disease, alternative energy, the defense industry)
>>
>>51624439
Good point anon, but I think the point about NSA not answering to anyone including Congress (supposed superiors) is the part that is more disturbing than pictures of cats or buying habits on Amazon. The point is that nobody can ever really feel that they are "free" when they know that there is always an agency that monitors all communications domestic and foreign. This "cooling effect" has long-lasting implications on innovation, relationships, pride, founding principles, and survival in general. I realize that NSA isn't the only spy agency. I don't know what the answer should be, but the US really can't claim to be a free nation with these kind of domestic spy programs in place.

Im using Android, ive already accepted the fact that it's gonna be insecure.

I still separate bank accts from here tho

>>

>In reality your data is in safer hands with them than to be with some random company.
False dilemma. They both spy on you.
>>
>>51624779
True but there is a big difference by being spied by someone with top secret clearance and by some random guy living overseas. Still NSA is the drama here when you are giving probably more info about yourself to this random guy than NSA.
>>
>>51624800
It's really the opposite. You can block tracking scripts and the like to stop companies and random websites from collecting data on you. But there's not much you can do about your ISP.
>>
Anyone who thinks mass surveillance provides some kind of security benefit should read this: https://www.schneier.com/books/data_and_goliath/
>>

>I'm not autistic like you.
Yes, you are.

>>Intentionally leaving out commas.
Where did I omit a comma, fellow autist?
>>
>>51624828
Yes but tracking scripts is one thing.

Let's say Bank of America app has the ability to turn on your phone and make phone calls at your expense. Ability to turn on your camera and your microphone without telling you at any time and transfer pictures and download files.

>>51624839
My point is not about getting some security benefit. My point is your data is EVERYWHERE already.
>>
>>51624672
No apology necessary. I am only looking out for your best interests (much like the NSA).
>>
>>51624923
>Let's say Bank of America app has the ability to turn on your phone and make phone calls at your expense. Ability to turn on your camera and your microphone without telling you at any time and transfer pictures and download files.
I don't own a smartphone. Granted, my cellphone provider can probably do everything you just listed.
>>
>>51624939
See what I wanted to discuss is this. Your cellphone provider has this ability already. Most cellphone providers outsources overseas. My ISP outsources in the Philippines/Thailand. My informations are with them already and who is there control them?
>>
>>51623607
>They have dirt on every politician.

umm no , they don't spy on Americans.

No, I actually don't download stupid games on my phone... I actually only use free software on my phone, the only non-free software on my phone are proprietary blobs for firmware, there's not much I can do about that sadly.

My data being safer in their hands is irrelevant- my data shouldn't be in /any/ agency or companies hands... Do you work for the NSA op?

You don't know shit. We, the public, do not know shit. We only know what has been revealed to us. Everyone who knows anything about anything is aware of the fact that we are still in the dark about a lot of things.
>>

I actually work for the CSS.

You guys give info to anyway who asks for them but when the gov needs this info too you cry muh privacy

We actually save thousands of life but collecting info. Big company doing it only for profit.
NSA is the bad guy eh?

I don't see what you think the difference between NSA and Pals and any other group of strangers is. I don't want ANYONE keeping tabs on me. Why the fuck do you seem to think the NSA is any more trustworthy than Ching Rotus Technorogies?
