Can someone recommend a good USB DAC to pair with Sennheiser HD 598? Preferably under $100. Can go up to $150 if it makes a big difference. Thanks for any help.
Are you Rarara battlestation guy who just bought the HD 598 SE on a Black Friday sale?!
>>
>>51618584
No
>>
Just bought one too and waiting on it to ship. Honestly from what I hear there's no way in hell id blow that much on a DAC for a headphone as supposedly easy to drive as the 598. Seems really dumb.
>>
>>51618438
This is the one I was looking at.
>>
>>51618598
Okay
Also this >>51618438
or http://www.amazon.com/Musical-Fidelity-V90-HPA-Headphone-Amp/dp/B00F4MX98Y/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8
It's a pretty good USB DAC + HPA. I use it myself with a HD 600 and I'm pretty pleased.
>>
you don't need a DAC/Amp for the 598's

but if you insist, Magni + Modi stack or O2 + ODAC combo. spend the money on a good one and never have to buy another DAC/Amp ever again.
>>
>>51618700
Plugging it into motherboard is good enough for these?
>>
>>51618262
>598
>DAC

For what purpose.
>>
>>51618765
yes if don't sound quality is good to you, don't fall for the audiophile meme
>>
>>51618765
yeah. still, i don't see why you need a DAC/amp for the 598's. why are you getting one?
>>
>>51618700
I always see people say this but I noticed a significant difference after getting a DAC for my 598s.
>>
>>51618825
Don't know too much about audio, have seen people say a DAC/amp improves the sound by a lot. Using the headphones for gaming mostly if that makes a difference.
>>
>>51618878
nice post-purchase rationalization, retard.
>>
>>51618878
Placebo
>>
>>51618878

This sugar water cured my arthritis.
>>
>>51618966
>>51618937
>>51618924
>People who have never used 598s let alone heard them both with and without a DAC
>>
>>51618893
it's not significant enough to be worth dropping the money on. not for 598's, anyway. amps are for driving headphones with high impedance. i got a Magni Modi stack for when i had HD 650's because they were quiet as fuck without one and sounded terrible. the 598's work standalone. with an amp you're barely gonna have the volume knob up because it's gonna be loud as FUCK (personal experience - used my old 598's when my last pair of cans died)

if you want to upgrade your audio, buy new headphones. amps are the last thing you need to upgrade if you wanna be le audiophile
>>
>>51618997
Whatever I just don't see how a DAC is going to help if onboard sound is going to have no problem, objectively, pushing the headphones.
>>
>>51618997
I have though, I bought better shit instead.

Also why do you keep saying DAC? You know you need an amp between the DAC and headphone right? Running headphones directly from a DAC is next level stupid.
>>
>>51619025
I'm sure everyone here knows what I'm talking about when I say DAC. There's no need to for further explanation. Or would you rather me refer to it as a "USB DAC Headphone Amplifier"?
>>
>>51619019
Don't you know? Amps fix the sounds of every single headphone. An amp would make Beats by Dr. Dre sound even better and that's almost impossible.
>>
>>51619079
Nah you could just say DAC/Amp because they're more often than not sold as seperate units in the 'audiophile' world.

Either way you're a fucking retard for suggesting they're necessary for the HD598.
>>
So can I just plug into the headphone jack on my speakers, or will there be a loss in quality. Again, sorry if this is a stupid question. Audio is something I mostly ignored until now

What I have now is 5.1 speakers with Realtek driver. Do I need to change anything in the realtek settings?
>>
>>51619092
I never suggested they were necessary, fuckface. I said they make a difference, which is true.
>>
>>51619023
this exactly

save your money, OP. buy new cans instead if you wanna upgrade. there is a LOT of snake oil in the audiophile community regarding amps and DACs. people like to rationalize their $1000 purchases by saying there's more clarity in the music, but it's complete horseshit.

get an amp when you have high impedance cans and don't fall for the audiophile memes >>51618801 is talking about
>>
>>51619130
Prove it.
>>
>>51618262
How portable are these headphones? Good for everyday commute?
>>
>>51619144
>headphones
>public
*tips social ineptitude*
>>
coming from the m50s, these somehow have even more bass
>>
>>51619092
They're not necessary, but the HD598 is sensitive enough to pick up electronic noise from the lousy internal sound cards, so there's a real possibility of improvement with an external source.
>>
>>51619127
>So can I just plug into the headphone jack on my speakers
yes
>Do I need to change anything in the realtek settings
no

>>51619144
the cord is like 10 feet long and they're too big for public use (unless you enjoy looking like a goof). also they're open back so sound is gonna leak and piss people off

>>51619182
that's weird cuz my friend has m50s and they have significantly more bass than the 598's. 598's are extremely neutral sounding - almost light on bass.
>>
>>51619214
>to pick up electronic noise from the lousy internal sound cards
What is this, 2005?
>>
>>51619144
They're open, no way.

>>51619182
Interesting. These are going to be my second mid range good headphones (first is m50s) and I was expecting far less. Are you not mistaken?

Not it all, for reasons including >>51619171 but primarily because they're open so you can hear everyone sniggering at you.

Just get some earbuds for your iPoo.
>>
>>51619224
I'm using my audio interface's amp/dac, so that could be one thing

>>
>>51619224
tbqh i don't see the point in going from m50's to 598's. it's a side grade at best and, depending on your musical preference, might even be a downgrade.

i'd save and step up a tier

Anything is an upgrade from the meme50, Beats Solo2 are literally better. Like, measurably better.

I bought the $100 598's off amazon last year and the black ones this year because I like them so much. An amp isn't needed for them but doesn't hurt to have one in my opinion.
>>
>>51619526
Because the 598s were only 95 dollars and I'm going to use them on my PC at home for better soundstage and for a more comfortable headphone.

You would wonder. I could hear the PWM singnal from my graphics card when there was no sound played and tge volume cranked up quite high. Was using a Xonar DG and Superlux 681B (yeye budget, but really liked them). Friend had something similiar but iwas onboard sound and interference from the coils on his graphics card. There was a quite loud whizzing sound that changed frequency depending on framerate. So yeah it is quite good to use an external DAC further away from all the HF electronics in a PC. Also plenty of headphones benefit from an amp. They just sound more full. Doesnt need to be a 100$ one, even 30-40 is defi etely noticeable
>>
ive heard that it is not needed for the hd598 and hd555/8. The impendance is just low.

I would just try it without DAC unless you dont have a 3.5mm port
>>
>>51620551
it comes with an adapter
>>
>>51620587
then you dont need a DAC for 100 dollers. Dont waste your money.
>>
>>51620587
It comes with its another separate cable.
>>
>>51620649
weird, mine came with an adapter

but that was also like 5 years ago
>>
>>51618997
>>51618878
They did a blind test.

It turns out as long as its any external dac there is a diffierence. As long as it's not onboard you're good to go whether its a 50$ dac or a 1000$ dac.
