So now that both ES File Explorer and QuickPic are dead, what are free alternatives to these once-great apps?
>>
What happened to QuickPic?
>>
Find older versions? Thats what I did. If you like to be paranoid get an firewall and block them.
>>
>>51590618
Well it got aquired by some company...and got bloated and people say it talks home.
>>
>>51590618
change of owner that is now stuffing it with bloat
>>51590623
I am not paranoid about botnet, I just don't like my simple apps getting bloated with useless features, nor getting ads notifications.
>>
>>51590644
It is the same for me. Apps thet you use for years that ar just perfect at what they do, and one beautiful day someone decided that it would be great to put shit in them because people love shit right? Anyway, I found an old version of quickpic on xda, the last one without the bloat, and I'm using that.

Exactly those apps. I cant believe you idiots update them to a version you know its bloated with crap/adds a botnet. Just keep the older versions and if you dont have them download the apk from somewhere, its that simple
>>
>>51590557
>having automatic updates on
People do this? Most software have a new version every 2 weeks that adds nothing but re-downloads the entire app.

Please treat your phone the same way you treat a computer

Focus is nice and has fingerprint support

X-plore by LonelyCatGames (LCG)
For gallery I use CM Galler. I found it on the internet, but I can upload apk if anyone wants it. It's the gallery from KitKat but with material design.

OP here.
I guess I will settle on Piktures as a replacement for QuickPic and Solid Explorer as for ES.

Shame Solid Explorer is not free, but £1.40 is not a fortune.
>>
>>51590832
How do you move files in x-plore?
>>
>>51590910
It has a "move" button.
>>
>>51590942
you can't change directory though
>>
>>51590910
Set panel 2 on the destination folder then from panel one hold pressed on your file and select move.

You can do it from the other panel as well -- one panel copies on the destination of the other panel. Archives work as folders, at least zip ones.

Is Cabinet still going?

Es explorer has some sort of 'bloat ceaner' and such which pushed notifications as to how much space you can free up and so on. of course I didn't and won't update, just read this on the app store reviews. Also the samsung gallery up is better than quickpic, since I've tried both.

Solid Explorer (paid) or Amaze

CyanogenMod File Manager

Just use the neutered version of QP off of XDA. For an FM, I'd suggest Cabinet.
>>
Solid Explorer

as for QuickPic just keep using 4.5.2, don't update it.

One of the main reasons I prefer android over iOS is the availability of good free apps that aren't loaded with ads (and it being much easier to block in-app ads). With the trend of android getting more and more ad-ridden trash I've pared to back to mainly stock and f-droid stuff now. You can cover 95% of everything you'd want to do on a phone with these two.

fdroid has a few great file explorers.

I've been using X-Plore since my Nokia 6630, they sometimes do shady shit like forced LCG software ads, but it's great.
>>
Is there any alternative to the network part of es? As in, the easy go set up ftp server
>>
>download older apk
>use zipaligner to sign with different keys
>enjoy the app without worrying it will every update
>>
Amaze is OK but why doesn't it have network PC lookup.. you have to manually type in the IP of a pc in the network
>>
AMAZE EXPLORER + QUICKPIC BEFORE BOTNET TOOK OVER

ANYTHING ELSE = YOU ARE FUCKING STUPID

whats a good alternative to quickpic that respects my freedom?

EX and Quickpick are shit now I guess...

Is MX Player still good?
>>
>>51593829
It now pushes bloatware ad notifications every now and then.
Also removed features from free version and moved them to paid one.

Paid version? And ads? Top kek
What's wrong with using an older version of it anyway?

>>51593872
There's literally no decent 100% alternative for ESFE. Closest there is is Mixplorer, and I find its root capabilities to be very wonky.
>>
I've used both of these before and I'm literally baffled as to why people hail them so much. From what I gather most people only use ES as a basic file manager and doesn't touch the ssh / ftp stuff. And I have no idea what quickpic offers over it's alternatives, aside from Ricebox capabilities. It's shittier than Google photos.
