Because there's nothing wrong with Seagate and the the Backblaze testing methodology was flawed as fuck. It would be like me saying I haven't had an issue with any of the 4 Seagate drives in this build in the 2.5 years I've owned it, so no one should have an issue with any Seagate drive within 2.5 years.
>>
>>51587609

Hoping AMD beats out Intel with Zen so the AMD badge on this ancient case means something.
When I do go Zen (or Haswell-E X99) I'll go full custom loop along with swapping video cards since these 390x's don't have full pcb blocks available. *sigh* Shoulda bought the PowerColor 390x's.

Still haven't got my custom cables. I think they got lost in the mail because they arrived at the sorting station and that's it.
>>
>>51588499
No, because standard fans are 25mm, and slim fans are ~12mm. Then you need the rad itself, the thinnest of which are 25mm.

Ooh, I like, I'm nitpicking here since you've achieved skunkworks level quality but have you thought of a custom decal on your PSU? It doesn't match the scheme so you could pull the sticker off, make a stencil of whatever you want then spray paint it, or maybe redo the color so the "AX" is blue.

I found some PCI chink mount on ebay. It was meant for a waaay older build with a video card that got into some lethal heat regions.

The fucking hard plastic tubing is such a bitch. And the "howto guides" miss so many important little tips that'll keep you from wasting tubing, cracking tubing, and developing leaks. But it looks kewl.

>>51588623
It's been a long time since I stressed them. I think the GPUs wind up in the low 60s, but I honestly can't remember what the CPU runs at. Certainly nothing high enough to be worth thinking about.

>>51588648
>skunkworks level quality
If you're referring to the build by JayzTwoCents, then that's high praise. I don't think it's anywhere near that level. The next upgrade for this system is going to be new GPUs, hopefully with a new PSU at the same time. That will most likely be a HX850i. I'm not going to do anything with the PSU until then, especially because you can't see it with the side panel on.

Case has filters on the front and bottom for intake. Got 3 exhaust, 2 on top one in back, so I want 3 intake, hence the one on bottom. With my controller on the 2 front intakes I can change the case to go between positive and negative pressure. Need 3 fans to do that.

>>
>>51590697

True...but gaming machines are already a hobbyist niche, in which 3rd party cooling (whether air or closed loop liquid) is already a further niche that fulfills nearly anyone's need for overclocking headroom for typical usage.

If you're not comfortable setting up an open loop cooling system in your rig, and don't have the funds to replace damaged parts...why even bother with the loop to begin with? The only real point, if we're being perfectly honest here, is e-peen by having a higher OC than other guys on forums. It really has minimal practical impact.

So again, if you don't have the skills to make it happen why do it at all?
>>
>>51594008

You mean the CPU blocks? If so then yeah, they're 1150/55/56 compatible so I'll reuse one.

I'm not looking to make huge gains (although it should be better in applications with weak mulithreading support), I'm mainly doing it for some modern features and less heat and power.

How would you know? You've clearly never attempted it. If you had done even the slightest bit of research into how it's done, you'd know how to leak test your system while it's powered down so that nothing gets damaged, and you'd know that if it doesn't spring a leak immediately, the chances of it ever leaking are basically nil.

It's the OG Antec 300, not the revision. Bought it in like 2009 for under $50. It's gone through several iterations by now and is covered in stickers. That pic isn't even current - the build was parted out and sold off. PSU and cables are now in pic related.

Building my first custom (i5/970/8gb ddr3) and got the Carbide 100R for $40. It looks pretty good, the metal is thinner than oem completes I've had in the past but that seems common among Corsair. Can't wait for the other components to ship.
>>
>>51597932
How's that cooler? I'd upgrade to a simple 120mm like that since they're showing up for cheap but I'm curious about the dB's.

Having it mounted in the rear would seem like the quietest orientation. A top or front mount single fan liquid cooler doesn't rev up too loud do they (1,500-2,000rpm fans)? Having a fan right up against a rad whether push or pull must affect the sound but probably not by much to have a preference.

Pro's
>small as fuck
>high build quality, very flexible choice of mounts for component options
..

Con's
>smaller components (SFX psu, decent mITX mobo etc.) are more expensive than regular parts
>case itself is expensive
>cable management is really hard without custom length cables
>No HDD without compromise on other components
>Restricted cooler choices without compromise on other components
>if you use an ATX PSU it compromises other component choices
>mITX limited to 16GB RAM and single GPU, and SFX PSU is limited to 500W-600W max
>under full load is more audible due to small ff + fans

I'm thinking of making a new M-ATX build as well to have a go at custom loop watercooling and to X-fire GPU's

You just have to be really careful with component choice to make sure everything fits, I love my NCASE build but in retrospect unless you REALLY need a case this small, I'd go M-ATX
>>
>>51601391

>Carbide 100R

>>51600981
That's a good PSU. Great choice.

Your cable management is terrible. Is that your USB 3.0 header dangling there? If so, why isn't it plugged in? That motherboard supports it.

I just took a look at your motherboard's manual, and as far as I can tell, your memory isn't taking advantage of dual channel. If it supports dual channel and you have two sticks, then why not? You almost always skip a DIMM. Like this: 1x1x instead of 11xx

Go here and read section 1.4.2: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/Z170-PRO-GAMING/E10719_Z170_PRO_GAMING_UM_V2_WEB.pdf

Can you take those HDDs out and put them up top and remove that cage for better air flow?

Check out this guy's build below yours: >>51601150

That's what you should aspire to.

Could be a solid build with some work. Clean it up, bro. Good luck!

>>51601761
I know about my terrible cable management lol. It's one of the things I need to work on. As for my USB 3.0 header dangling, turns out I somehow managed to ham hands something and bend a few pins on the USB 3.0 connector. I tried to fix it but to no avail. I was pretty much done at that point and was just itching to turn it on to make sure it worked and I didn't really care about lacking 2 more USB 3.0 ports on my case. Maybe I'll fix it one day if I can. And yeah no worries about the RAM thing. It would not for the life of it POST it was weird. Only would work when 1 DIMM was inserted or they were in separate channels. I've since corrected the matter and it turns on and I see all my memory. As for the HDDs I could probably mount them in the back of the case and remove the cage altogether. I just like the easy access I have to my drives.
>>
>>51603751
No worries. As for the bent pins, you can straighten them back out with needle nose pliers. I've done that before, and what do you have to lose?

>I just like the easy access I have to my drives.

Exactly, why let people fix their products when you can do it for them for a large fee. The 600W HP Power Supply is near $600 last time I looked into it, the 600 that I put in was laying around and the adapter cost $10 for parts and took five minutes to build.
