I know you're being sarcastic, but I actually prefer design that prioritizes battery over power. If you do a lot of commuting or moving about 9/10 hours of battery life is a lifesaver. Look at it less of a desktop replacement more of a thin client and it will begin to make sense.

The rMBP on the other hand, doesn't throttle, but the CPU gets stupidly hot under load.
I think Intel Turbo Boost is what causes the problem, as disabling it makes for much less heat.

When the Macbook is throttling it scores like 1800 multicore, compared to 4100 what it usually gets.
These tests run for such a short period of time that throttling doesn't usually affect the score.
