My last mobo was made by EVGA and it was an absolute nightmare to use.

Yeah, remember when PC Gaming wasn't a meme? Easily one of the worst communities out there, they'll pay for anything with the term "gaming" on it

the motherboard and processor together for this machine im on right now shitposting cost me 80$ all together.

>Best gaming networking – Best-in-class Intel® Gigabit Ethernet, LANGuard and GameFirst technologies.

wtf does that even mean? QoS?

>Best gaming connectivity — Thunderbolt™ 3, 3x3 802.11ac Wi-Fi , NVMe U.2, M.2, SATA Express and USB 3.1 Type-A and Type-C for extreme-speed transfers and total compatibility.
Why's that gaming-related?

>Best gaming protection – Carefully-selected premium components for maximum durability.
now that's just bullshit. "gaming protection".

literally meme-tech.
>>
>>51555621
It's not "meme-tech". You could call it 'meme marketing' though, but what isn't there days?

The board itself is top of the line. It has every feature you could possibly want. It has quality components, way too good to actually make a difference. It's like buying a swiss watch when a regular one will tell you the time just as well.
>>
>>51551141

>$300

I refuse to pay more than $120 for a board that merely holds the real components.

I got a 4690k and Maximus 7 bundle for 400$. The Asus one I was going to get was sold out, so it was either that or a shitty msi one. Say what you will about gamer pandering, but this max7 is the nicest motherboard I've ever worked with.

The U.2 M.2 adapter gets in the way of dual slot vidya cards. That's right 2015 and vidya cards still blockin ports.
>>
>>51558877
That adapter was only ever useful to use the Intel 750 series 2.5" version in a desktop computer. Anybody with half a brain would get the PCIe card edition, which performs better, or the Samsung 950 Pro which is native M.2

If you realy want it just get a native m.2 drive like samsungs 950 pro, although they make little to no diff in boot times

My last build i jumped from the normal 100 board to a 200 one... Love it Mpower woot woot.
>>
>>51559283
I never really understood why people would buy SSDs for boot times? Booting is a one-time thing, there are so many other great things about SSDs (no moving parts, fast read/write times), why get hung up on the boot time? Unless you go full potato and keep restarting your rig all day?
>>
>>51560088
It is not kit OS boot times, but all programs. Including the big ones like Photoshop, CAD software, etc. They go from 45 seconds to open, to less than 4. As it sits, the second I can see my desktop, I hit my key binds to open Firefox with several tabs, vlc player, and steam and they all open at the same time in less than a few seconds.

I also have an ssd for games. Big games like fallout and other heavily modded games benefit from quick load times. It used to be that a 120gb ssd was $90 and since it was so small in capacity, people would get it for the OS and utilities only. Now a good 500gb ssd from Samsung could be had for $150.

Having been using ssds for boot, games, and only using next disks for storage for several years now, I couldn't go back to using a pc with no ssd. They're slugs compared even sata2 based mediocre ssds in overall response time and useability,

Anyone who brags about how fast their ssd boots their OS as the only benefit of having an ssd is a moron.
>>
>>51560088
People don't buy SSDs for boot times.
But when you first buy an SSD and boot your PC for the first time after installing it, it's the single most noticeable change.
Usually you go from around 30 or more seconds on a HDD to less than 10 seconds on a SSD, and it just feels blazing fast. People remember that.
Everything starts faster, sure. But what takes longer to load than the OS?
>>
>>51555383
That post made me cringe it gives that manlet too much credit
>>
>>51555856
A Swiss watch doesn't depreciate anywhere near as fast, and that board doesn't even have 10gb Ethernet for the price

>remember when the free market existed and you could shose any model you want
>remember when op was not a faggot for once

>>
>>51560273

Playing Fallout 4 from an HDD was a pain in the ass. Constant wait times between 10 and 45 seconds. With the SSD its 5-15 secs max.

I paid around $225 for my Asus Crossfire IV. I wanted 2x 16x PCIE capability for maximum sli/crossfire speed. The built in audio is better than my previous m-board, and the BIOS software is fucking great.

The motherboard is the central piece of your computer, cheeping out here will cost you later on when your forced to replace it for upgrades.
>>
Bought a $400,- Gigabyte motherboard when it was 50% off. It comes with the option to replace it with an equal one in 3 years for free. Not a bad deal I think.

remember when dumb faggots were smart enough not to give a shitty company which puts more work into milking its consumers out of every cent ?

>paying 30% increase in price.. for at best a 5% increase in performance

now they spam shitty intel threads 24/7
and if you explain to them how shit their product is, they instantly delete the thread.

this place needs better janitors/mods.. there's way too many advertising cunts on this board.
>>
>Buying $500+ motherboard just so you can overclock your CPU for 5-10% more performance.

Why don't people get a 100-200$ mobo and spend the rest on better CPU or GPU?

My B85 Xeon1231v3 setup beats my friend's overclocked I5s that cost 200-300$ more in multithreaded tasts and is 10-15% slower than overclocked I7s on the same socket. However for the same money as the overclocked I7s I can buld a much faster LGA2011 system.
>>
>>51563057
Well, what do you build if you want the highest single threaded performance with at least 4 threads?
>>
>>51563421
What are you going to use such build for?

It's too much for the average user.
It sucks for media work.
Heavy games will still run better on multithreaded (8+) CPUs
Average/Light games won't need more than a 3,5GHz I5 CPU from the last 3 gens. Heck, a G3258 would be enough.
>>
>>51563556
Well, badly threaded DX9/10/11 games aren't going to disappear overnight. And lots of them can't run a stable 120Hz on my 5820K @ 4.2 GHz.
Hardly anyone is aware that doubling your FPS isn't just hard on the GPU, but also hard on your CPU.
>>
>are Asus high-end motherboards expensive?

yes

>are they worth it?

fuck yes, I have the Z97 Deluxe and it's the best motherboard I have ever owned, Jesus, everything about this mobo is great, the audio chip, the SATA ports, the power delivery, it even came with a wireless charger for my mobile devices.

The only bad thing is that I'm now super spoiled and every no Asus mobo now seems shit in comparison.
>>
>>51563667
Even if you overclocked to 5GHz, I doub't you'd get more than 5-10 additional fps. Once you go over 4GHz you get big dimishing returns. It's not really worth the money, especially for games.

If you want to run old games, get a G3258.
I got one PC with it running at 4,8GHz on a H81 motherboard.

The fact that they still have loading screens, not to mention 5-15 seconds on an SSD, is disgraceful.
>>
>>51552621
You're not f.am. It's especially hilarious when /g/ buys Intel processors with iGPUs but doesn't get a motherboard with video out. What a fucking waste.
>>
>>51565231
Why is that a waste ?
I don't think most of /g/ even so much as considers the iGPU being there when buying an Intel processor. Like it's just this little thing that comes with the CPU and there's fuck all you can do about it other than buying a locked Xeon or going X99.
>>
>>51565885
Because it's wasted hardware. You can use it to push secondary monitors and reserve your main for your dedicated, like I do, or use it for QuickSync encoding. There's all kinds of things you can do with the iGPU that takes a load off your system but /g/ just acts like it isn't there.
>>
$500 board and it isn't even quad sli.
