What gaming laptop should I buy?

Some that I'm currently considering are the MSI GE62, the Dell XPS 15, and the Alienware 15.
>>
>>51549905
>>What gaming laptop should I buy?
don't
>>
>>51549950
This is the only real advice you can take OP

If you want games, get a pc
If you want a laptop, get a laptop

You'd even be saving money by buying a thinkpad and custom building your own pc
>>
>>51549905
>Dell XPS 15
>Gaming on an ultrabook
Really, you don't game on a laptop. I went through that phase in middle school. You can't upgrade it. They are basically desktops because their battery life is absolute shit. Save your money and get a desktop. You'll thank yourself later.
>>
>>51549986
Well, I need a high performance machine that has to be mobile. Those are my requirements. I'm not asking about a desktop. I'm looking for a gaming pc.
>>
>>51550072
>I need a high performance machine that has to be mobile.
You need? do you need it or want it? because I doubt you need it
>>
>>51550087
Do you need a smartphone? I doubt you need it
>>
>>51550102
uhh yea I need it, I use it for work and getting my email so my boss and co-workers can call, text, email me and all sorts of stuff

I don't game on my phone so don't try and compare my smart phone to the same "needs" you want a gaming laptop for
>>
>>51550102
Why are you suddenly pulling out a logical fallacy when confronted with an argument
>>
>>51550087
You got me on that one. I don't even technically need it. But I do want it. What's your point? I'm still not asking about custom building pcs.
>>
>>51550102
Not OP
>>
>>51550111
No you don't
>>
>>51550123
Gaming laptops are often just desktop replacements and gaming laptops are far more expensive for worse performance in the trade off of pseudo portability factor when really its anything but
>>
>>51550111
>>51550142
This is a retarded argument
>>
>>51550142
>DO YOU NEED A SMART PHONE?
>yea I do I need it for work, I use it for x, y, z reasons
>NO YOU DON'T
>>
>>51550152
But I really need to move the laptop often, It's much more convenient for me to buy a laptop at this time. I'm trading money for convenience. Right now, I'm personally just interested in a laptop.
>>
>>51550166
Yes I know that already
>>
>ITT : unemployed neckbeards living in the basement

Sorry but people who actually move around the country/continent can't bring their bigass ricer shit PC.

I managed to get a GT70 dragon 40% off last year and it's still great, played phantom shit and dragon age 3 no problem.

Go get a clevo, 1300 is more than enough for a 970(maybe 980m), SSD and a modern i7.
>>
>>51550198
Have a look at asus PCs
Always check specs vs price
Search interwebs till you're sick of it, and just buy the one with best spec to price ratio you could find

Obviously if someone wants a gaming laptop, it's because they want the capabilities but require mobility of a certain degree. It's not just for shits and giggles, of course you'd just get a desktop if your criteria was less demanding.

Three words, mac book pro
>>
Bought this in summer of 2012 before going off to school.

Specs: 17", i7(3rd gen), 12GB RAM, Nvidia 670

I've played GW2, CS:Go, civ, half life, influent on it with settings anywhere from moderate to high. It surpasses all my office/coding needs and multifunctions like a champion.

That being said, it is really just a desktop replacement. You basically designate a place for it and leave it there. You don't put it on your lap, you don't sit on the couch with it, it isn't comfortable. I hated lugging it to class. However, it is mobile so I can bring it home for the holidays and such.

I very much like Msi. I think their stealth series/slim laptops have great specs and are truly mobile. Most other gaming laptop will only be semi mobile, but they run games fine and I'd imagine the newer ones are even more capable in that respect.

In looking for a <$250 USD tablet. Needs to be at least 9 in, expandable storage is a must, and higher resolution would be nice like 1920x1080.

Ill need it for comicbook reading , Netflix, and light internet usage. No need for a workhorse tablet when all I'll be doing is reading and watching.

Thanks -

Buy a laptop with a good display and a thunderbolt port, but no actual "gaymen" capabilities.

then buy a GPU and make an external GPU set up for home use.

You'll still save a fortune compared to most gaymen laptops.

OP, I own a GE 62 Apache. I wanted performance in my laptop, and minor gaming capabilities, so I went with the GTX965M so the price wouldnt be rediculous.

Pros:
The display is great, the performance is great, and I can keep up with my buddies on their desktops on most multiplayer games (lower settings ofc, but I'm not delaying the loading speed)

Cons:
Its thick (1 inch), and at 15 inches and ~6 Pounds, its portable but inconvenient to put it in simplest terms. There was a shitton of bloatware but an ape can remove most of it.

All-in-all, Its a solid performance laptop, and the best compromise I found in terms of portability and performance. But that balance is so important, So make sure you actually know what you need a laptop for.
>>
>>51549905
msi usually have lousy drivers and software support, from my experience on both their MBs and gaymen notebooks.

But they are the best bet for overall quality, reliability and price-performance ratio on mobile gaming platforms.

My best recommendation right now is the mid tier performance variations (960M or 965M), 15,6" screen size in 1080p and the "slim" models with individual exhaust fans for the cpu and gpu.

Dell is fine to, I don't have any personal experience with their later models but they are a good brand none the less. Alienware is still overpriced though and doesn't bring much extra over an Asus or msi equivalent model. They were the only ones providing 120hz screen options the last time I checked though but its still better to just get an extra screen for that, when you are on the go or at a lan 60hz is just fine for a short while (its not like you have the power to push that many frames anyway though).
>>
I just ordered the dell inspiron on amazon with an extra 8 gig stick of ram for 800 bucks. I had the benefit of having an extra 500 gig hd laying around.

6th gen i5 quad core
960m
256 gig ssd
1080 screen

Plays witcher 3 at 45ish fps on high at 1080p. Seems pretty legit.
>>
Kek, why the fuck are you buying laptops nowadays, especially gaymen laptops? Just wait for the Thunderbolt 3.0 to be widely used, it is going to be the new standard due to it's port (same as usb, type-c) and it has a huge fucking bandwidth. Just buy a normal, light laptop and buy a TB3 pci-express case to attach an actual desktop GPU (e-GPU) on your laptop. I mean what is the purpose of carrying 6kg laptops with huge size, why are you buying a LAPTOP if you will be using it as desktop? At least buy something light with a good CPU and no discrete GPU and build your setup on your desk (e-gpu, power and monitor), and put your actually mobile laptop on your desk whenever you want to play games. So that you can carry it around when you want to do some actual job rather than gaming. It will also save you from dealing with burnt graphics card due to insufficient cooling in laptops. The only thing that will produce heat will be the CPU which can be cooled on some decent brands (and new generations generate less watt).

Once external gpu thunderbolt ports become a thing, you would have literally no way to justify a gaming laptop. Especially when external gpus beat mobile gpus despite bandwidth bottleneck for external gpus.

I'm not asking though, the thing is that I know for a fact I would benefit from it but since it was a laptop and I was already on a budget I opted for consumer card instead
the difference it makes was not big enough for me to justify extra money I would spend on quadro build at the time (I also think that it will be easier to sell GeForce when I have to to make a switch). I'm just not sure anymore if the decision I made taking all of the above into consideration was good though.

Well that's just shortsighted. Technically, I'm homeless. But I'm a soldier. I get to spend time in rooms that are less equipped than a motel 6 as my place of residence for weeks at a time. It's not uncommon for my shit to be packed and moved for me while I'm otherwise indisposed.

Criterias:
- Buy a fucking laptop, I mean the mobile one that you can carry without breaking your back
- Make sure it has real quad core CPU, goldbergstein nowadays adds 1 MB cache to i5 and sells it as an i7. No, check the CPU model and make sure it's quad core.
- Make sure it has a real thunderbolt 3 port that is fully compliant to the standard. Because you might be tricked into buying a USB 3.1 port instead of TB3, which has like 1/10 of bandwidth.

>buy mobo for 400

It was a special scheme they had a few months ago at bestbuy or something, where if you buy this special expensive toaster, you can buy an alienware for $300 off

Possibru, but its so much work its not even worth it, you have to pop open the laptop, remove the gpu, get the new gpu, put thermal paste on it, put it in the laptop, close the laptop, make sure its compatible, find drivers, not a good idea.
