Is it worth buying an ultrawide monitor?
>>
what kind of question is that? make your own decisions this isn't hard to figure out
>>
depends on how you are going to use it.
>>
>>51541645
He wants some feedback from some Anons. He doesn't want buyer's remorse.

For OP : some /g/Anons regretted it because it's too large.
Maybe a /g/Anon with a 21:9 monitor will make you change your mind.
>>
Yes, if you're a total faggot.
>>
>>51541625
21:9? no, it's shit
get a 16:9 4k instead
>>
>>51541625
No just buy 2 100 dollar monitors and put them side by side
>>
it's nice, i love the extra space

but it sure is pricey, you might want to just add another monitor instead if you're in need of more room
>>
>>51541694
or better yet get the ultrawide and keep a smaller one on the side becasue 2 smaller screens dont make up for having one nice ultrawide

The perfect monitor is a

21:9 2160k 144 Hz IPS monitor

Now that doesn't exist so you get to pick.

144 Hz
4K
21 : 9

So far 4K is way too much for anything but a 980Ti and Fury X...

144Hz is also too much for most games on ultra if you don't have a 980Ti and Fury X

So I got a 29" 21:9 FreeSync monitor. 75 Hz.

Why because I got a R9 R390. I'd get a G-Sync monitor if I had a 970.

So far 4K and 144Hz aren't in the realm of Ultra for 300€ GPUs.

The only thing I regret is valve being retarded and not supporting 21:9 so my Dota 2 looks weird as fuck.

Very shit in the case of Dota 2.
>>
>>51541820
That's what I want, although I'm worried about the 75hz (less-so because I don't play competitive shooters, it would just be nice to have 144hz). How are games running on it with the 390?

>>51541838
I think MOBA's do that because it allows you to see more of the screen and counts as "cheating" or at least an unfair advantage.
>>
>>51541883
Well on 2560×1080 everything runs perfect on ultra. Star Wars Battlefront being the best looking game I've ever seen. It runs rock solid 60 fps.

Now Fallout 4 being an utter disaster from a technical standpoint has problems.

But I'm not going to tell you hey buy a 390 just get whatever cheaper 970 or 390 they're basically the same with 390 being realistically maybe 1~2 fps better overall and worse in Gameworks titles such as Fallout 4.

>>51541883
The thing is as you can see here. >>51541875
I already see more. It's not really an issue since it's working. I'm seeing more. It's just the UI being broken.

Or buy an ultrawide and then later get another so you're ultra ultra wide... I can't go back to square screens.

I would say always have at least one ultrawide though, its amazing for most things.
>>
>>51541625
Short answer? No.
Long answer? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
>>
>>51541875
>>51541838
I cant tell in what manner this is supposed to look bad?
>>
>>51542139
It's stretched out. On games where the developer are trash (Bethesda) they don't add support for 21:9 so you either get black bars or you stretch it out.

>>51542161
The game isn't stretched out.

>>51541838
This looks perfect and is a great example of game that does 21:9 right.

>>51541875
Dota on the other hand gives you the 3D 21:9 FOV so you see more to the sides yet the UI has no idea what to do with the numbers so it streches out and the minimap beign a fixed value stays there the same size as it in 16:9

Fallout 4 being another good example as it streches out the UI and it has bugs all over. But it's playable like that.
>>
>>51542161
ive never played it so it looks fine to me having not reference for it

There.

As you can see you can see more in 21:9 but it's a lot more stretched out.

Pic related. My old setups. Top monitor of the triple monitor setup was a 4k. I got rid of it cuz 28" 4k is garbage. I got rid of the triple monitor setup cuz I wanted ultra wide. Definitely the best invest I made. Occasional couple games that don't work well with 21:9 but who cares. I had to sell the ultrawide as well unfortunately due to study abroad. When I come back I will most likely be buying one again. In the pic is a Samsung S34E790C.
>>
It's extremely worth it for productivety and screen real estate, really bad for gaymes
>>
>>51542356
whats wrong with 28" 4K? In your opinion

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/ultrawidemasterrace#curation

Depends on the game. If it's supports 21:9 there literally no reason why it's bad it's actually the opposite.

Playing say Battlefield 4 in non 21:9 just feels so weird to me now.

Or say Europa Universalis 4
>>
Just buy 2 monitors, fag.
>>
>>51541729
I keep one maxed window in each monitor. It's much easier to manage than non-maxed windows on a single big monitor.
>>
>>51542356
>28" 4K is garbage

No, you're just retard
>>
>>51541838
Agree fallout 4 doesn't look so nice I don't hate my monitor but sometimes I wish I would have purchase 2 monitors than 1 long ass one
>>
>>51542590
Why didn't you keep your old one?

I kept my old Dell 2414H

I mean I don't use it for games since it's to my left.

But say it pisses me of to no end that TV series are all 16:9 so I watch them on it.
>>
>>51541625
I think it's hilarious that /g/ was up in arms over the move from 4:3 to 16:9 but now these stupid fuckers think 21:9 is a good idea.

1440p, 2560x1600, or 4k are the only good monitor options today IMO.

21:9 screens are overpriced shit. 29" at 21:9 is less actual space than 27" at 16:9, by a lot.
>>
>>51542736
Yes I think everyone is aware that

29" = 24"
34" = 27"

Since forever movies were does in 21:9 why is this suddenly a bad thing?
>>
>>51542823
Because watching movies is a small portion of the typical use cases for a PC.
>>
>>51542536
I agree 2 monitors are better than one but ideally id have at least one nice big one. The secondary one doesnt so much matter as long as its 1080

No I mean for gaming why is 21:9 bad?

For working I can do this.

In games in adds more FOV and most of todays games are some sort of 3rd person shooter, 1st person shooter, top down rpg or rts.

I can't think of a single game type that 21:9 has issues with.

EU4 begin a great example. Maps looks amazing like they're rolled out on a table or something.
>>
>>51542887
I'm just saying it's overpriced for what you get. IMO 27" @ 1440p 16:9 is perfect and anything larger is just catering to my peripheral vision (which is great for racing/flight sims and maybe movies but not computing).

>>

>29" at 21:9 is less actual space than 27" at 16:9, by a lot.

They are almost identical in area. (304 square inches vs 311)
>>

I have 2 x 24" and nah, 27 or 28" would be ideal

My 29" LG UM67-P cost 250€

And if you're an american it's crazy you can get one for 200$

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-29-ips-led-hd-219-ultrawide-monitor-black/7937084.p?id=1219686595126&skuId=7937084

Not seeing the expensive part at least in the 29" series.
>>
>>51543009
If you like scrolling up and down your websites like any pleb who runs 1080p. Disgusting.
>>
>>51543031
So you shifted the goalpost for expensive to vertical space real quick there bud.

Too bad 1440p and 4K cost more then 29" 21:9

And that beign the reason I got one combined with the fact that games at 2K and 4K run like ass on my R9 390

Well we're talking approximately 2.7Megapixels vs 3.6Megapixels, and 1440p 27" Acer is $200 right now on Newegg.
>>
>>51542356
>I got rid of it cuz 28" 4k is garbage.

I've got a 28" 4k monitor, it's a tad big, would've preferred 24", but the space is very efficient
>>
one 21:9 looks better than two 16:9.
But it is more expensive and less flexible (can't move one of the screens to another computer or turn one of them off etc)
>>

this looks awful

buy 3 of them

LG 34UM95-P here

What's not to like? It does pretty much everything well.

4K UHD is not quite ready as far as software goes, so thi is the next best thing.

It games very well, but if you are some sort of refresh rate autist then this may not be for you.
>>
>>51542576
Literal bait. Do you even own a 28" 4k? If you do I bet you have scaling up at least 150-200%. There goes your screen real estate out the shitter. Owning a 28" 4k monitor is the stupidest thing ever.
>>
>>51542024
actually laughed at this pic as i said "so wide"
looks ridiculous
>>
>>51541645
You have autism
>>
It'll fit your ultrawide butthole just fine, I'm sure.

But really, they're pretty cool. Just annoying if you want to watch something since a lot of media stretches or you get bars on anything other than 16:9.
