Former XP user. I dropped XP for Mint after it took several minutes at a time just to boot and artifacting with various apps (chief among them being Skype) just refused to work anymore.
Now I'm happily running Mint, and with a good bit of my old games library still available on Mint, I can't say I'm disappointed.

This is an X2 5200+/2GB machine booting XP off a 55MB/s 80GB hard drive from 2006.
OP, you only ever stop using XP if you need a 64bit OS. I had to upgrade because I was hitting the 2GB per process limit while encoding. Otherwise I'd still be on it.
