hey, he is not the only one who has one. I have on sitting in my closet. My current i5 replaced it. When I was still using an AMD CPU, the fx-8320 was $150, the 8350 was $180, and the 9370 was $200. For $20 more I got a better binned chip guaranteed to clock up to 4.7ghz at decent voltage.

>Had it at 5.2ghz @ 1.55v under custom water. 4.9ghz @ 1.45v on air

Was shooting for the 5.5ghz mark on a 990fx sabertooth motherboard. After repeated crashes and BSODs, I forgot to enable LLC again after reseting CMOS. Voltage boosted to 1.9v and POP went the VRM.

Crossfire runs surprisingly well, didn't expect that at all after reading the horrendous multi-GPU user experiences you find online.

Temps are fine, even under load. I like it.
>>
>>51535510
Yeah, I've heard that AMD CPU's supposedly judge their temperature based off of some kind of formula regarding ambient temp, CPU usage, motherboard temp and voltages.
IF that is right, it makes it somewhat unreliable under roughly 20c but its meant to be completely precise over that.
Unless of course you live in Scandinavia/Norway/ass end of Canada/Alaska.

How true that is, I don't know. I'm not an EE let alone one who works for AMD, but yeah.
Still, must be pretty cold for it to hit that low.
>>
>>51535541
After a couple days, it's been hovering around 20-30c. Which makes much more sense.
>>

290x 8GB edition, right?

If I post my Speccy report here, do you guys think you can help me identify components that I should seek to replace during Black Friday (or as soon as possible) or should I start a new thread for that discussion?

Thoughts? Currently in progress upgrading various components, some have just been upgraded and some have been in since 2012
>>
>>51535564
Go for it. That's what half of these threads turn into anyway.
>>
>>51535562
Yeah, was planning on going 390 crossfire but got the 290X 8GB for 100 bucks less in total so I went with it.

It feels so nice playing games above 100fps.

Your components seem fine.

That monitor is an insult to all the people with poorer specs.
>>
>>51535585
I know exactly how you feel. I'm the Fury X guy above (how low can your temps go) and even at 2560x1440, I can often get over 100.
Some games of course I can't, but at that resolution, I knew no single card available at the moment can max out every game and get 100+.
Might end up getting a second Fury X once the next gen of cards releases, or if the new Fury X replacement is a good bit stronger, try hock the Fury X for a good price and use that to move on up.

I just want shit to be smooth as silk that has just been freshly weaved by silkworms held in anti-gravity is all.

>>51535590
>I'm poor
>IC2Q Q9550
>R9 380
I laughed at that one. Such an odd mix.
Would've been better with a 390 though.

>>51535593
The i5 is fine for the moment unless like me you want to start getting into content creation, image manipulation on a high resolution, video editing/rendering. Nothing on the market is a huge step up from the 3570k and this is coming from someone who went from 3550 -> 4790k purely because I wanted to both overclock and to have those extra threads available.

You could probably benefit from another set of RAM to push you up to 12/16Gb since games are becoming more and more hungry for it now.

Your GPU is getting dated, but your monitor is a low resolution anyway, If you could afford it, the logical thing to do would be to upgrade both.
Something 1920x1080@120/144hz would be a minimum to upgrade to, I wouldn't even consider a 1080@60 these days.
The other choice is 2560x1440@60-144hz, though I'd recommend the 120/144hz again because then you've got room for the future as your GPU gets stronger.

As for GPU choice... something like a 290 would do you well. If you HAD to go Nvidia, the 970 is an option but you MUST go read up on why its not a good option both ethically and in terms of actual issues encountered.
If you were to go for the 2560x1440 monitor, I'd say completely rule out the 970 and look for a 980/980ti

27" 2560x1440 IPS is probably your sweet spot for desk space + panel quality + cost, seeing as your current monitor's 60Hz anyway. Or you could go 40" UHD like me.
>>
>>51535680
>>51535737
Thank you. Are 1440p monitors entirely Korean made? I have read that they are a mixed bag when it comes to quality.

Would 120/144hz result in worse (or same) quality compared to my current setup if my GPU cannot produce the necessary fps? What is the trade-off?
>>
>>51535784
Asus, Acer, HP, BenQ and more make them.
Acer is one of the cheaper brands, and if you're going TN rather than IPS, could be worth a look for you.
If you're wanting IPS though, you've gotta go for a more expensive monitor because otherwise there's a HIGH chance of IPS glow and other issues.

Who comes from where, I don't know, but there are reputable companies who make them and not just knock off's.
>>
>>51535784
Well IPS is LG's tech. I should think most panels are fabricated in Korea anyway, and it's not like it's unskilled labour. The problem with the "Korean" models on ebay is that they allegedly use lower graded A- panels, but to be honest it's a panel lottery anyway.

120/144hz just means more headroom if your GPU's capable of pushing the frames. Lower frame output won't show a 'drop' in image quality.
>>
>>51535680
>Fury X crossfire

My case could not properly fit the single radiator of the 295x2, I highly doubt I could make space for two of them. Would be nice, though.
