Why would you do this? If you're a programmer, make your own mobile apps and shit and you'll make more than you would working for a company. if you're an artist, create and sell raw assets and you'll make bank.

If you're making your own indie games, sure. Working for a big developer sucks ass. Unreasonable release deadlines are commonplace these days, often caused by the publisher. Programmers are treated like absolute shit, while artists are coddled and nourished.

Yes. People don't become game developers because they want to make money, they do it because they want to make games. It's similar to broadway in a sense except game developers are not unionized in any way. So many people want to work on broadway, there is endless supply of actors to exploit. This is why the actors unionized, they understood that competition would cut them short and force them to work insane hours.
