AMDPOORFAGS CONFIRMED ON SUICIDE WATCH

APUFAGS CONFIRMED ON SUICIDE WATCH
>>
Will fglrx also stop supporting those GPUs in the next update or is it just affecting Windows?
>>

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=AMD-Crimson-Pre-GCN

>As a bit of unfortunate news for those with older AMD graphics cards: Crimson on both Linux and Windows has gone away with pre-GCN GPU support. The Radeon HD 5000/6000 series are no longer supported by the mainline Radeon Software (Catalyst) driver, leaving you with Catalyst 15.9 driver as the last official update.

AMD HAS NO DRIVERS

sounds like a good move.

Pruning old, garbage code from your codebase once in a while helps reduce driver filesize and overhead.

Nvidia's done this too, don't fucking act like they haven't.

CHECKMATE, CHRISTIANS
>>
>>51517493
I guess when your architecture never changes, it's easy to support old shit. ;)
>>
>>51517493
>Tesla
Only because they're still selling GT 210's in certain regions.
>>
>>51517493
If by support you mean cripple, then yeah you're correct.

The only reason older cards get performance boosts is because Nvidia hasn't changed their cores in over a decade, and are thus supported for the same reason.

>NV50 family (Tesla)
>Has unified shader architecture, can do GPGPU and CUDA, has virtual memory, quite different from previous cards.

>NVC0 family (Fermi)
>All sorts of fun. Feature-wise it isn't too different but the architecture has changed a lot.

Please don't post if you don't know SHIT
>>
>>51517581
All based on CUDA cores.

Everything before the 8 series is only supported by older drivers.
Everything after 8 series (when they actually launched the unified shader architecture) has "support" up to the latest drivers.

Adding extensions to your cores doesn't make them suddenly different cores.
>>
You're an idiot if you didn't see this coming as soon as Mantle (which is GCN only, as well as its offspring) came out.
>>
Pre-GCN is like 2009 dude.

Get over it

All these APUFAGS got what they deserved, no drivers

pic related

>>51517493
Nvidia's GPU design, at it's fundamental level, is still exactly the same.
They don't need to cull support because the cards are all the same at their core, it's much easier to optimize the older ones.

With AMD you had VLIW5 (HD5xx0), VLIW4(HD6xx0), and now GCN.
Radically different ISAs. They only have so many people with so much time on their hands.

This move was timed well in my opinion and it should help them push out driver updates for everyone else at a considerably faster pace.

>>51517581
Moving around the core blocks and changing their relative size doesn't change the ISA or fundamental nature of the GPUs. Adding new instructions but keeping the core processing block the same, tessellation non-withstanding, does not change that.

refer to above.

I wonder how that one 5800k-fag feels right now.

Eh. It's not like you get any sort of noticeable improvements from drivers after a few years on the market anyway. So long as legacy drivers work then whatever. You'll be able to play shit just as you always could.

AMD has limited resources. I'd rather see them focus on GCN cards anyway.
>>
>>51517984
Also, this. The only people that should be upset about this are Nvidia shills.
>>
>>51517955
They haven't pruned it yet
>>
>>51518050
Oh I know, the 15.11 driver still has ingrained HD6k and below support.

The real meat comes with their next driver update.
>>
>>51517807
with AMD's relabeling-frenzy there's a good chance they're still selling cards with those chips.
>>
>>51517856
APUs never got any drivers so having them moved to legacy is fairly meaningless.
>>
>>51518095
Yep. R5 230:
http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/desktop/r5
>>
good, if you rely on driver support, you might as well have at least a 7850, everything below wont matter anyway for games, and you dont need driver updates for office or graphic design programs as 15.9 driver update is very recent

good move amd, instead of the 370mb driver update, crimson even lowered the filesize to 299mb
>>
LOL
The gamecube was almost 17 years ago. Who has a pre-gamecube graphics card anymore?
