http://www.winbeta.org/news/microsoft-pulled-the-windows-10-november-update-due-to-privacy-concerns
>Microsoft has today detailed why they chose to pull the Windows 10 November Update from Windows Update and the Media Creation Tool over the weekend. Their initial comment regarding the situation claimed the company decided that all users needed to update via Windows Update, but it appears that was not the entire story.
>Microsoft told WinBeta the update was pulled due to issues with privacy concerns. More specifically, upon installing the update, Windows would not remember the users set privacy settings, meaning Windows would simply default them.
>>51512510
>would reset the privacy settings
>"DAMN IT GUYS! THAT MOVE WAS TOO OBVIOUS! QUICK! PULL THE UPDATE!"
>>51512918
Haha this is exactly how I see it
>>51512510
All this just proves that data is more valueable than money in this day and age. Microsoft gives no fucks, they want your data more than your goy notes.
I'm a Windows 10 user and I see no problem with this, because I've used the built-in option to delay updates (and everybody else can do that too). My computer hasn't received the problematic update, and will only after they fix it.
>>51512510
That's weird. For me, it defaulted most of the control panel settings upon updating but it left the privacy stuff in the modern settings app the same.
>>51513520
Group Policy lets you disable automatic updates, though.
>>51513564
Only in Pro. Delaying updates can be done on Home, Pro, or Enterprise regardless.
Remember when Windows Updates were seamless and did not impact one's experience in any negative way due to extensive testing and before release?
>>51513520
I solved the problem by not upgrading to 10. so enjoy your future problems with win 10
my windows 10 settings werent changed, everything is still turned off
Microsoft sure has been having a lot of accidents with windows update recently.

>still using Windows
>literally, voluntarily, still using Windows
>not only that, using Windows 10 instead of 7
>>51513790
The company wouldn't be this sucky if they solved their internal conflicts and competition. Fuck, even Office doesn't follow the Windows UI and UX guidelines.
>>51512510
Take control of your lives, faggots. My Windows install (vm) only gets internet access when I say it can.
iptables -I FORWARD -m physdev --physdev-in tap0 -j DROP
Everything blocked in the Windows vm firewall too...but holy shit does tcpdump show it being a lying little chatter box.
Naughty naughty windows. Your UI says you'll be quiet, but here you are still phoning home to the bot herder. No wan for you.
How can I debot W10?
>>51515092
Install Win7/8.1.
>>51513800
>>51515095
>yfw 7/8* have bot now too
>>51515120
You're not very good at hiding updates, then.
>>51515092
You're asking for something impossible. Upgrate to Windows 7 to escape from botnet.
>>51515092
>any windows
>not a botnet
>TFW Australia supported in Cortana now
>But need this shitty update to use it
>>51513609
Holy shit this. It seems like every week I see a thread on /g/ about some new, shitty, problematic update.

They quite literally fired most of the testers.
They used to have a developer to tester ratio of about 1:1. Not anymore.

Is it anything other than choosing 'never check for updates?

Remember when Microsoft told us what were in their updates?
>No, we will not tell you what they're for. Deal with it.
>Tech sites: "Obviously a good idea. Please click our MS ads!"

Which version of Windows?
I'm wondering if something like this (but probably more fine-grained) would be worth it for my Windows 8.1 VM.
>disable cortana
>still running in task manager
>not running build 10586
>using a deprecated build
>>51519581
funny enough the only version I've ever bought was 8. Got that with the $20 offer they did early on before they started checking keys.
>>51521209
It's because they stupidly bundled it with search. You can find the old search in
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

I actually have disabled automatic updated since day one on my own computer, but I've also installed Windows 10 on a number of other computers that aren't mine for users who won't be able to analyse the list of updates and/or click the option to install them, so the option of delaying them is good enough.
>>51518067
You get security updates, and no botnet. Just requires a bit of extra work.

What's the latest /g/uide for win10?

my computer is downloading version 1511, build 10586 right now.
>>51521243
what the actual fuck, I updated my windows with november update, got colored window bars and privacy settings reset shit and everything but the build is 10586 not 1511
anyone able to explain?
>>51522817
build is 10586, version is 1511 so you are all good
>>51522817
build 10586.11 was the glitched one that reset things. 10586.14 is the fixed version.
