I'm helping out a friend who needs a new laptop, with as much internal storage as possible; 500 and up is great. All the BestBuy offers are with a 5400RPM drives, though, and I'd rather chew my fucking armpits than suggest that someone buy this shit.
Budget is $400 max, because
>poor students
Is there any store in the Chicago area that sells <$400 laptops (Celeron/i3, whatever) with a 7200RPM or an SSD?
Dafuq is wrong with these shitty 5400RPMs...

Do you need battery life?
>>51506456
Not really. Just something reasonably powerful that spins faster than this shit.
Chromebook? They offer office programs and other things like that. Try financing a better laptop? I have an aleinware that costs $45 a month for 24 months
second hand thinkpad

Chromebooks don't have much storage, retard.
Also...
>Alienware

I suggested the Dell Chromebook 13 2015, but this friend is all like "I need to have more than 32/64GB permanent storage"; the MSc program kinda dictates it, which is shit.

EBay. Take a look at the /tpg/ here too.
>>51506438
Go to /tpg/
Get a thinkpad
Add the HD by yourself

Mkay, although I was hoping for something with a warranty. Thanks, anon.
>>51506757
I would, but I'm in Europe and can't physically help.
>>51506721
Just needed a fast laptop that can play games on the side, I see nothing wrong with it.
>>51506438
Get a used laptop (thinkpad etc)
Get a high capacity SSD
combine
>>51506772
Old business laptops (ex-lease, refurbished) are fucking everywhere and dirt cheap. Also, they can often be under warranty still.
>>51506919
Was thinking the exact same thing, yet all I see are shitty HPs & DELLs that are just not worth the $400.
By 'everywhere' do you mean something else than amazon, ebay, bestbuy and staples?
>>51506900
What's a good place to look for used thinkpads, anon?
>>51506948
I don't know where you live or where is acceptable to buy from.

If you're a europoor that's 200 yank dollars. Leaves more than enough to get a decent ssd and maybe upgrade the screen.

Thanks, anon. As I said earlier, I'm choosing this for a friend in Chicago, so this particular X220 won't be the one, but it's a cool idea.
Just buy a laptop you like and replace the hdd, its usually not too hard
most laptops have the option to let you install a m.2 and a 2.5" ssd.
It is relativity cheap to get one a m.2 ssd and use that as your main drive and thus keep the larger, slower drive for your data.
If you are really poor, then getting a small (32gb) is practically free and that is still enough to hold your OS, most used data and all your applications (unless you use a deprecated OS like windows)
If he has a .edu address tell him to sign up for journeyed. I know they have cheap as shit laptops. Though if they're good I have no idea
