I can't even though I love my old build dearly and it plays like 90% of my Steam library on at least medium settings without issue. It just can't play anything new that's even slightly demanding and boots up super slow, which is why I'm debating a new build now or next year.

There's nothing that cant run on a 3570k, and if it can't, its just the devs being shit.

The 7950 was the price/performance king and still has the best DPFLOPS performance per dollar of any card, why upgrade?

Crossfire is GOAT. Devs just suck for not actually catering to my specific needs.

>tfw I hurts to admit my own bias.
>>
>Xeon E5507 + 12GB DDR3 + Quadro 2000

Pretty much every post-Core2 chip is practically meme tier for my typical use case and comes with little or no practical improvement except in the occasional game I play once every six months, and even then only my GPU really holds me back.

Sure, it'd be nice to have something newer, but I can't really justify it when I could get more out of spending it on my hobbies instead and I hate modern whitebox hardware from an aesthetic perspective anyway.
>>

Current but I'm going to justify it anyway

>Windows
Because most of what I do beyond shitposting on my desktop is Windows only (games, CAD, etc). I plan on changing this for my next build, where I will probably dual boot or run a Windows VM on a Gahnoo+Lelnix install.

>8320 and 16 Gb of ram
8 cores and 16 Gb of ram is comfy for having a million things running at once without any slowdown. Also I didn't want to spend another $100 for an i5, especially since I dislike that intel has known NSA backdoors.

>2 16:10 monitors
Shit's comfy.

>b-but you'll get 10 more fps! stop being poor!
>5% increase in some benchmarks!
>you don't know what you're missing!

yeah whatever, maybe I'm a bit bitter because I can't justify mindlessly dropping a grand on an ugly piece of obnoxious shit that will be worthless in five months for something I do once every six months, but for real though, I just don't see much of a benefit when I would rather put that money towards a project or something that I'll learn from instead of waste my time playing the occasional game at an "acceptable" framerate

part of me also kind of just rebels against the idea of upgrading my system just because I don't want to turn into one of those spoiled kiddo shitters that bitches and moans about 62 fps on ultra @ 1080p like it's another holocaust, I kind of like the patience and tolerance I've gained from working with lots of older tech, it really makes me appreciate things more
>>

There's nothing wrong with having a Pentium 4 and 1GB RAM, what you need is proper optimization of the resources using a superior operating system that uses the resources carefully.
I don't have any need for external peripherals so it doesn't bother me that my motherboard doesn't have PCIe slots and just PCI slots

Would Cannonlake be a good place to upgrade from my 3570k?

Those upcoming 3DS, 360, WiiU, and PS3 emulators got me wanting to upgrade.

4790k and 770, 8 gb ram.

I don't think I have ever even used the full power of this processor yet, or ever will.

I just play games sometimes when I'm not at work, and don't care about graphics. If I have to seriously use the computer for something I more often grab my chromebook running Linux tbqh.

Bought it years ago after making a lot of money on Bitcoin and also haven't found another scam like that to take advantage of.

>mfw my build is a P4 3ghz with 1,5gb ram
Good thing I have a modern laptop now. I still have it as a backup system in case my laptop fail or gets stolen, again.
>>
HD 7950 had a great price to performance ratio.
I didn't know the 8350 and the 8320 were exactly the same just binned differently.
The 32GB of RAM was free for me.
The windowed version of my case was cheaper.
256GB SSDs were still $220 so I got a 128GB.

Entire build was justified because I spent like $1100 on it and sold it for $950 like a years later.

The C2D's more than good enough for what I do on the machine itself, most heavy lifting's done remotely. I could go for a better GPU because I game here and there, so I may upgrade to an 8800GS while I've got it cracked open swapping SSDs.

Yeah that's the part I can't justify; I've spent the last two months running the iMac off of the SSD in my BlackBook connected over FireWire 400.
>>
>>51492039
It surprises me how it's holding up pretty ok with recent games, playing GTA V on medium/high with 30-40 fps average. Is this CPU going to be a bottleneck if I decide to upgrade my gpu to a R9 380 for example?

I have one. Am really satisfied with it. You just don't know what you are missing before you use it because you haven't experienced it before. Everything is so smooth. You start to get used to the smoothness. When I go from 144hz main screen to 75 second screen it feels so dissatisfying. But also because I game quite a lot, it is good to have. If you don't game often I wouldn't recommend it, unless you have enough money for a 1440p 144hz.
