16 bit and 44.1kHz. Someone told me there's no difference in losing sound quality if you use either 16 or 24 bit. 44.1Khz is used because who the fuck can hear above 20kHz? Can you? http://www.jimmyr.com/blog/hearingloss.html

This video explains unless you live in outer space you can use anything above 16 bit 44.1kHz https://youtu.be/nLEhfieoMq8?t=7m26s

I thought the 44100hz is also frequency, where do I see that?

What does 320kbps mean compared to 16bit/44hz
>>
>>51467468
I've had mine for a few years now and it's still going strong.
>>
>>51467073
depends on your source..
>>
>>51467759
44100hz is how high your music file can go up to. It still means it could be any frequency inside it eg. a small sized mp3 file capped at 14kHz but still fucking says 44.1kHz.

I don't know how to explain your other question but 320kbps CBR constant bit rate, .mp3 v0 VBR variable bit rate, and .flac all sound the same.
>>

What's the point of flac?

>>51463321
Yes you should. The stock gain is pointless in the combo unit.
>>
>>51468666
But anon, the sample rate of the file tells you just that. A 44.1KHz file can have signals reaching up to 22.05KHz according to the Nyquist's sampling theorem.
>>
>>51468234
This is bullshit

>>51468328
So what's the point of flac?
>>
>>51468890
Hearing the difference now isn't the reason to encode to FLAC. FLAC uses lossless compression, while MP3 is 'lossy'. What this means is that for each year the MP3 sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbps, assuming you have SATA - it's about 15kbps on IDE, but only 7kbps on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don't want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media.

I started collecting MP3s in about 2001, and if I try to play any of the tracks I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320kbps, they just sound like crap. The bass is terrible, the midrange…well don’t get me started. Some of those albums have degraded down to 32 or even 16kbps. FLAC rips from the same period still sound great, even if they weren’t stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, stick to FLAC, you may not be able to hear the difference now, but in a year or two, you’ll be glad you did.

If the file is the same bitrate, it'll play it how it is. If it's lower, like 44.1 but your computer is set to 192, it'll upscale it. Which doesn't improve sound quality, and will probably introduce artifacts in the audible spectrum, since the conversion isn't perfect.

first of all, your debate should be between the hd600 or x2.

if you like accentuated bass and treble, for like pop and rap and techno, go with the x2s. if you like a flat, neutral response that stays true to the source of the music, get the hd600.
>>
>>51471832
Why is the R70X not part of the debate?
>>
>>51471669
The heating issues is caused by pleather pads, not the semi-closed design though.
>>
>>51471843
because they dont have measurements by any reputable source, as theyre still pretty new. theres no reason to buy them as you would be making a completely blind decision. unless thats okay with you, but then coming here to ask isnt very helpful, as we CANT do it in this case, unless someone here has them and has also listened to the other headphones we would recommend to compare them
>>
>>51471830
X2 does not need an amp
R70x does need an amp

X2 has build a good reputation
R70x is fairly new with much less feedback and reviews

X2 is cheaper
R70x is more expensive

X2 has a more fun sound
R70x is more neutral

Okey so now I would like to really get some answers and I want all of u headphone faggots to help me out!

I want some headphones for hip hop, trap and dubstep listening but the thing is that I don't want alot of bass or wobbling bass, I want more neutral sound with some deep bass but not to much.

People has suggested me the X2 and HD650 but the thing is that I think the HD650 are a bit to expensive for my budget and the X2 are not comfortable. The headband on the X2 are so loose so my head are pushing them up because of the headphones not having any fucking clamping forcentre at all so that makes the pads being under my ears and that is so fucking annoying.

Some people founded me a way to fix the X2 headband shit thing but I'm not sure if that would help it.

Ive been testing the HD600 out and I did really like them but people are up in my ass with the "nobass" memes..

Now I want you fucking people to help me and suggest me some headphones I can buy.

I am completely new to headphones, I'm sick of shitty gaming headsets and plan on buying a decent pair of headphones on Black Friday / Christmas. I will be using these headphones for a combination of listening and
gaming
so I'm not entirely sure what is good for both at my price range. I've heard the AD900x are a good set with a great sound stage. Tried out the HD598 at a local store and liked that sounds however it seemed a bit dark. Any help/advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Hey /hpg/ does anyone know why equalizer APO will not work with Xonar essence ST cards/drivers in version 1.0, but 0.9.1 does work with them? It is also the case for unified drivers as well.

You have to reinstall APO for the device using the configuration file every time you update drivers. I had to do it for my realtek digital source today.

I meant that the drivers stayed the same, but different versions of APO work with the same driver.

Fresh installs after driver cleaner too.

Literally treble cannons.

Not worth considering and is made obsolete when it gets outperformed by $100 headphones.

At least stuff like the X2 isn't neutral and aims for a colored sig. DT880 is just a failure.

Yeah that is one thing I remember the 880's lacking.

I'm wondering if the problem with my 712's is amplification, being that the only amp I have after my o2 power connector broke is the on board one from my essence ST. Do you think it would help with imaging/separation to buy a new amp?

No, but if you buy a X2 you can have the best separation available and you don't need any amp :)

Fake bass? That doesn't actually mean anything. That implies that the low frequency range isn't actually bass, which by definition it is.

I'm pricing in $AUD for this, because I don't know american prices.

You're comparing $70 earbuds designed for phones to a pair of headphones costing $150-200. Of course the AD700x are going to sound better by far.

If you want to upgrade to something better you'll probably need to spend more than $100 to get comparable sound to the AD700x.

That said I'm no expert on buds, so I'd probably just recommend you go to a site like innerfidelity and look at their recommended IEMs.

I own a X2 and its "in front of the stage" vibe is amazing. As for the HD 600, don't even bother about it unless you're a sound engineer or you mean to analyze music instead of enjoying it.
>>
>>51474064
HD600's balance of sound is very good and as a result the separation and imaging is accurate.

Better than K712 and X2 for sure.

And to those who say measurements can't tell you the whole story? You don't think there exists a single piece of audio equipment that tests differently to how it sounds in an actual listening test? Are you denying the possibility completely or saying that you haven't yet found a pair of headphones whose measurements are different to your experience with them?

Either way what you're saying is an entirely subjective thing posing as objectivity. It's not even a valid argument.
>>
>>51474162
I'm very analytically minded, and enjoy that aspect of interpreting and understanding music composition, so maybe they are the cans for me after all. I just wish I could find an opportunity to test the x2 myself.

Good alternative to K612? I need something more comfortable and with a little bit more bass (which doesn't exist on the 612). DT990 seem to have too high treble, so maybe a DT880 edition? Or something else entirely, but I would want to stay at about 200€.

So in lieu of being able to actually answer questions and argue your point your response is "trust me I'm right".

You might be thinking you're more qualified to say these things than you actually are.
