I pirate android apps all the time. But I also buy stuff that is at absolute rock bottom pricing.
I pirate games because of the way I play them. I dont have 20-40 hours to play through a game, so I use gamekiller to max out stats, luckypatcher for inapp purchases, play through the game in a couple hours, delete, and start on the next one.
With apps, I pirate what I want to use, and if an app gets reinstalled the next time I reflash my ROM (something I do every 30-40 days) then it gets added to my watchlist.
If it drops in price, I buy it.
After installing an app, whether pirated or official, I run it through Luckypatcher to remove license checks, ads, and calls to the internet. I use xprivacy to lock down each app to be able to only use the resources needed to run, then AFWall+ to ensure they dont leak data. It sounds like a lot of work, but by using templates and pre-configured settings, its never more than a couple clicks more than the standard installation procedure.
I also have the amazon app installed with three profiles in Titanium backup. American, German and Spanish stores, where I have collected the daily free apps they offered. I have 2-300 apps in each store, probably around 500 unique apps. After installing from there, I run Luckypatcher again to remove amazon license check, and xprivacy and AFWall+ to lock them down.
I have about 80 purchased apps on Play, which I have spent about 20$ on, because I always try to buy apps when theyre at a 0.10$ price point.
On top of this, I use sites like humble bundle to buy packs of android apps and games, and always pay the minimum amount (0.01$ in most cases)
No, I dont use most of what I have paid for on a daily basis, but I have a huge backlog I can choose from where the average price per app was less than a cent.
Another thing I do is monitor the XDA website where a lot of devs post free unlocked versions of their premium paid apps on Play, and in a lot of cases they even have extra functionality.
If gas is $0.00 at a gas station 4 miles away and $2.00 at the one next to your house. You'd be stupid to not do a little extra work and drive the 4 miles.
