Obsolete as a purchase, not in function.
>>
>>51445769
This is why I bought a 390X.
Already obsolete.
Not obsolete, just inferior than the newer product.
An 8800 gtx should still be fine handling battlefield 4 on low@ 1080p.

The 1gb version might have a slight advantage though.

my dual titan x will never be obsolete

>LOOK, GUISE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE WORD "OBSOLETE" MEANS!

>>51445769
fuckin' hell, Quadros get single-slot coolers, why can't the consumer cards?

NEVER!

No but first whats with these prices? OP >>51445769
Where does this 980Ti cost 1200$?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127889&cm_re=980Ti-_-14-127-889-_-Product

Then consider this. The Top tier GPU now is going to be the same strenght as a mid tier GPU 3 generations from now.

So say you got a 8800 GTX it was as strong as a say 460 GTX

>consumer
The term “consumer,” when used to refer to the users of computing, is loaded with assumptions we should reject.

Professional workstation cards are like server CPU chips - they are the best of the best of the silicon wafers. The lowest leakage, the lowest volts to switch, the lowest electromigration, etc.

It's the only way they can run DP compute at 1/2 rate and still have the same power draw as their "desktop" counterparts.

Actually more often than not, they only differ in drivers.

You don't know a single thing about chip production and binning, do you?

You don't know what anything I said in that post means, do you?
