new to linux. just installed linux lite to this super old machine but it's now slower than windows XP. what to do? are there commands to make it faster?

Install crunchbang ++ or Lubuntu. If they lag then use Puppy linux or smash that shitbox with a hammer.
Should have installed Haiku
