What are some mechanical keyboards with a Trackpoint built in?

I know there's the Tex Yoda in pic. It satisfies a lot of my requirements (middle mouse button is a MUST), but I'd prefer for it to at the very least have arrow keys and dedicated Insert/Delete/Home/End/PgUp/PgDn cluster -- if not, at least be programmable.

>>51432146

That is actually a slightly different board. That is a B2.Mini.

The Compact SQ SHOULD look similar except for the layout.

If you are interested in a similarly designed B.mini, here is the B.mimi EX X2. It is even more compact than the Compact SQ, but would probably cost twice as much.
>>
>>51432247

The tex trackpoint module is available seperately right?

You could probably implement it into a custom board. Probably a royal pain in the ass though.
>>
>>51432294

Meh, I prefer the bump of browns, and clicks of a red are too noisy
>>
>>51432321
blue is the one that clicks, red has no tactile feedback/ Kailh is your problem, not the color of switch you chose.
>>
>>51432321

He isn't complaining about the browns (well he actually may, they are hated by many) he is complaining about the Kailh part.

They are terrible clones that constantly fail and have stems break off.
>>
>>51432321
>>51432355

I always hated how the old switch guide in the /mkg/ threads circle jerked browns as the ultimate in tactile feedback.

They are just a mushy mess.
>>
>>51432355

Oh please, they're literally the exact same spec key.

There is absolutely no evidence to support the argument that Kailhs are of inferior quality, other than meme bullshit.

And for what it's worth, we literally build keyboards where I work with Cherry blacks and we see bad switches and occasional failures on them as well.

If you have any objective evidence to support your statement, I'd love to see it.

Not really.

They don't have the crosspoint contact that Cherry switches do.

But for the most part they are a straight copy.
>>
>>51432420

I like them: I actually don't even really mind good dome keyboards, but a mechanical is nicer to use, so the browns are a fit for me.

I don't mind blues, reminds me of the 386 I had growing up, but they're super loud unless you have the right room.

The one wall of my office is exposed brick, and the floor is tile, so there's no way I'm going to listen to that.

check out an RT3200, not a mech but you can get one for 20~, they were made by IBM, and it has middle mouse, I rarely ever use the trackpoint but it is aesthetically pleasing as all hell to me, or one of the model ms that have one inbuilt but you'll be spending near 250$ there as well

That is a beautiful keyboard, anon.

Do you know what kind of adapter I would need to use it with my laptop? My laptop doesn't have any PS/2 ports -- only USB.

I know there are PS/2 to USB converters and adapters and some have fancy stuff going on inside of them... I'm not sure what I would need for that kind of keyboard...

They have pok3r on amazon UK with Nordic layout
>>
>>51433792
Sure, the legends on PMK keys won't wear out since they are either dyesub or double shot.

However, only the retro style SA profile can really be described as "solid". The newer DCS and DSA profiles are much thinner to save money on material.

The thickness of the keycap plastic is the single largest factor when it comes to quality. I'd take thick ABS over thin PBT any day.
>>
I would like to create a 7 key mechanical keyboard. This should give enough permutations to represent an entire keyboard. I'm not so worried about the hardware part as I am software. What would be the best way to create multiple mod keys and/or aliases to achieve such a thing? OS would be Arch Linux.
>>
>>51432838
Look for a Poker or some CM Storm board, they make decent compact stuff with a Nordic layout.

Beware that you *will* have trouble finding replacement keycaps if you buy any kind of ISO board (nordic, uk, german etc.) and for Nordic specifically it's even worse.

How cringe is a Razer Blackwidow to /g/?

I sort of want the carpet to match the drapes with my DeathAdder and i haven't heard any real argument against razer products beyond that they are overpriced.
>>
>>51447979
If you want your garbage to match your garbage, then go for it.
>>
>>51447979
Try to get a Blackwidow from 2013 or older if you can. They have legitimate cherry switches, compared to the 2014 or newer models, which switched to a new Razer Khail switch, which seems to be unreliable compared to the cherry switches. You'll also only be stuck with either mx browns, or mx blues if you want a bw.

>>
What is it like when you buy a mechanical keyboard for the first time?
>>
>>51448377
For me, clears. And I haven't even tried them. I like browns over blues and clears are more or less browns with a heavier spring. I prefer browns due to less click noise and the release and actuation points are very close making it better for gaming.
>>
>>51448141
>non RGB leds
I personally wouldn't, but that's up to you. If I cared about LEDs, was going to swap Keycaps or case, just go v60
>>
Anyone know of a keyboard layout similar to this one? The price point is good, comes with Cherry MX Blue Switches and you get the 104 with a bit more compactness (though not quite a TKL) but then again it is Adesso...

http://www.amazon.com/Adesso-Compact-Mechanical-Keyboard-MKB-125B/dp/B0038KLIPA

Convince me this isn't worth checking out and please suggest ruthlessly; I'm looking to invest in a mechanical w/ blue switches for work (requires tenkey) and one w/ blue switches for gaming/writing at home (preferably TKL with Insert/Home/Delete/End/PgUp/PgDn + arrows.
>>
>>51448974
I don't know of any like that, though I am relatively new to this so somebody else might. Strangely I don't see Cherry MX blue anywhere in the title or desc, even though there's a picture of the switch.

Apparently the key sizes are non-standard for this one, specifically space and backspace. Some users report lack of key rollover, although it could be an OS problem. You may not want to buy that if you plan to change Keycaps or cable.

My first inclination would be a Das, Code or Wasd fullsize board. Unless you are really tight on deskspace the superior layout will be worth it.

I'd also probably go clears or brown switches for work, you may not believe me but blues are really loud if you bottom out frequently. If you're absolutely positive you want blues you may want to buy o-rings to dampen the clack, but not the click.

For the at-home keyboard you could look at a Novatouch TKL or Quickfire Stealth. They're relatively inexpensive and are generally good. Page keys and arrows.
>>
How much does cherry mx switch cost? $4 for one? Or did I search in a wrong place?

I want to build a mechanical keyboard, but I don't want to spend $500.

I live in europe btw.
>>
>>51448974

Cheap as fuck. Probably worth it on that alone. Looks like it has rollover issues and annoying non-standard keys.

If you want somethingsinilar, but actually good, look at the keyboard in the OP.

Way more expensive ($140 unassembled, $220 for full assembly) but a similar layout with none of the previous issues.
>>
>>51449726
~$0.30-0.50 depending on color.

Should be around $40-50 to covet any layout.

Okay, I'm struggling here. I need a new keyboard. Keyboards last a long time, so I'm willing to spend a decent amount of money on it. I want a mechanical keyboard, mx-brown switches, full-size.

That's it. The best thing I could find price/performance wise is the Ducky One for 129 Eurobucks, which is a lot. I mean, I don't want lighting because I'm afraid of dead leds after a few months. I don't want silly gamer bling. Just... a simple, black, full-sized keyboard with mx-browns. It seems to be really difficult for European resellers to have something like that.

I'm selling off my Ducky shine 3 TKL because TKL is a meme and I'm sick of browns. What's a good quality fullsize board with greens/greys/whites, maybe blue switches /mkg/?

Nothing in the guide is really doing it for me. Cheers.
>>
>>51431783

I like the design of this keyboard, it looks so easy to clean. You just hit it with compressed air from the sides and any dust or pet dander that is sitting under the keys will shoot out.

I'm actually really interested in getting a keyboard that is easy to clean.
>>
>>51451376
As someone who owned a full size mech keyboard i would strongly recommend against it.
Unless you know you need the numpad on a hourly basis or something a tenkeyless version not only will it be cheaper but more minimalist and pleasing.

You can build it flipped.

It is quite easy to build a left hand only ergodox.
>>
>>51454451
Please, I would love to be enlightened.

- Where can you buy parts for only one hand? I only ever saw the PCBs and cases sold in pairs.
- If you flip the right-hand PCB over, would it even match a left-hand case? I've not seen one in person, but from what I observed the connectors wouldn't have the correct holes.
- Does putting the Teensy on the opposite side as intended lend any firmware considerations? I never got to this point in my research.
