Oh god.
Netflix doesn't work.
Steam doesn't work.

It's coming to an end. Apple's best operating system is finally dying. I can't handle it. I don't want ElionYosemiteSam cancer on my computer. What the fuck do I do?

Why did Apple go full shit after Snow Leopard. Everything EVERYTHING is worse.
>>
It's time to upgrade to LE CAPITAN XDDD

It's better than their latest systems
It's better than Win OS X on a mac (Cause Apple + boot camp is probably the shittiest thing, i'd rather configure Arch linux on a 486 than try windows on bootcamp again )

It's slow as shit for starters. They made changes to applications that made them worse. They removed functionality for no reason. The additions were subtractions. 10.7 is the worst update in OSX history.
>>
I bought my first MacBook this year and El Capitan has been absolutely flawless. It almost feels bad because I don't see OS X possibly being better than this.

They removed functionality in snow leopard like context menu plugins.

They're on the "every mini/fixed release is the good one" cycle now every since Leopard.

OP, you will run your computer the way THEY TELL YOU TO.

Who the fuck do you think you are? A customer? You're not a customer, you're a dairy cow.

And dairy cows need to stay in their pens and do what they're told.

I believe it was Windows that was literally forcing an os on their users. No?
>>
Use windows. Or if you're a real faggot download some gay linux distro and pretend it's somehow superior to windows.
>>
>>51430316
OSX still has context based menus though. They removed spaces for no reason. Pagers are something I consider mandatory for a desktop environment. Most of the terrible changes made to previous OSX applications I could live with, but what they did to the address book was unforgivable. The launcher was a completely worthless, ugly, and pointless addition which could have been merged into dashboard. The aesthetic design changes, in general, felt like they were made by a class of 6th graders.

You can overtly force users to do as you want, or give them the illusion of choice as you slowly burn the bridge out from under them.

What's the difference? I suppose the second option gives Marketing & Propaganda more to work with, but it's the same in the end.

Your bullshit hanging on for dear life onto a goddamn old as f'crying out loud OS makes my and all other tech supporters shit because that shit doesn't fucking work anymore and has compatibility issues with every bloody new age service. Not to mention easy as shit things like AirDrop or AirPrint don't work with it not iCloud sync or goddamn app updates.

Update your god forsaken computer and I swear to God if you get some stupid for of adware (which your u already have more than likely) I hope you're idiotic enough to buy some sandnigger's 350$ support and get shafted for easy as all hell removal of temporary files

Also fuck bonjour.

good thing i switched it to linux years ago and everything stays up to date and will do so for a long time.
>>
>>51434102
Except it's fucking not.
I agree that Yosemite introduced a few annoyances, but it was a huge makeover after all. I view it more as a "release candidate" or even public beta if you will, but El Capitan is definitely finished. It's basically to Yosemite what Windows 7 was to Vista.

I have faster boot times, app launches and all default apps feel very finished and just werk™. And I'm glad they managed to rid of all the skeuorphism without making it look extremely boring like Windows 10.
>>
>>51434220
good thing the hardware's good.
>>
>>51434220
I did the same thing with my mid-2014 mbp after El Crapitan outright REMOVED support for /etc/fstab mounts and autofs which broke my NFS setup. It runs better with Fedora 23 than it ever ran with OS X.
>>
>>51434198
Spaces was literally just renamed (and refined a bit) but multiple work spaces are very much still there. And I agree Launchpad is useless, but no one is forcing you to use it. Just like no one forces me to use Dashboard which I find useless. In fact they seem to be abandoning it slowly but surely, which is nice.
>>
>>51434239

honestly the hardware was shit

i'm on my third magsafe adapter cause the first one caught fire, the second one frayed

the case is cracking EVERYWHERE. it started 6 months after i got it, and now there's cracks going through the entire case

i've stopped buying new batteries cause they seem to all die on me after a short while (the first one started to fucking INFLATE and was going to blow up)

the screen has always been shit and flickers

and that thing overheats like crazy. as soon as you do anything, it sounds like a boeing and it will seriously burn your balls if you have it sitting on you while doing a CPU intensive task for more than 5 minutes

oh and the inside of the case turned yellow too after 2 years. it started out white as snow and it's now the same gross yellow color as a mac from the 80's

but i still keep it around for laughs cause it's still running, and i want to see how long it lasts (10 years next year! ill get him an SSD for the occasion)

1.1 (early 2006, first intel mac ever) is 32 bits only and therefore can only support snow leopard.
>>
>>51434461
macbook2,1 had a 32bit efi boot loader and was the reason I couldn't upgrade past 10.7.5

It supported later operating systems but you literally had to hackingtosh it.

10.7.5 is 32 bit

You're all a bunch of faggots. There's nothing wrong with later versions of OS X.

Agreed. 10.4 is what I used on my PPC machines. 10.6 is the best Intel only though.

I'm a Macfag and this anon is right. You can install Windows 7 in a old MacBook with a Core Duo and it'll get support until fucking 2020, including support for iCloud Drive. Apple just doesn't give a fuck about backwards compatibility in OS X because the user base are mainly sheeps and normies that'll upgrade no matter what.
>>
>>51429608
>Apple's best operating system
Was 10.4 tiger
>>
>>51435350
>stable.

NT has memory leaks and constant bluescreens. Backwards compatibility is good until it makes writing code extremely messy and overcomplicated.
>>
>>51435383
The iPad Pro was the obvious beginning of the downward trend. Unfortunately they've got enough cash reserves to weather a bad 5-10 years so they'll come out of it without learning their lesson.
>>
>>51435398
>NT has constant bluescreens
Sure thing kid.
>>
10.8.5 was tolerable, but 10.9 was better in every way. 10.10 was some kind of failed experiment and 10.11 corrects most of it. 10.9 is the last thing you'll get that feels anything like 10.6.8. If your hardware doesn't have the 64-bit EFI and shit, you might need to resort to Linux, unless your job depends on your computer (big office suite software). Then you'll have to use Windows 7, or virtualize.
>>51435369
I still have a G4 with 10.4.11, it runs like a hot turd, and it used to kernel panic multiple times a day when I got it. I don't do anything excessive on it, or install anything except a browser and a media player. 10.5.8 worked better on it, but it clogs the RAM because the entire OS is like an oversized fat-binary.
>>51435311
Wow, that's a really trendy word for "shit I don't like."
>>
>>51435350
>NT
>compatibility
It's pretty fucking miraculous. A good portion of Win32/GDI is undocumented, or only documented by hobbyists, and a lot of it doesn't work as intended. A whole lot of programs actually rely on minor bugs to do their jobs. Also, GDI's repaint routine is still CPU-only, and mostly intact since pre-Y2K Windows.

>Microsoft Store marketing are targeting Mac users now
You know what to do OP.
>>
>>51435383
I've been an applefag for many years (starting in the days when you pretty much had to use macs for DTP) and I absolutely hate their new products. Everything before iphone 3g was fine, but then it went downhill.
Iwork - was great office replacement, with clean interface and quite powerful. Now it's been turned to shitty ios app port on a desktop
Final cut - they removed basic functionality (true, some of it was readded later, but still...) and dumbed down the interface to the point of being barely useable
Osx - mostly poinless changes and no really useful features
Ipad - just one giant wtf. Ios interface is just horrid. Icons without text, hidden menus everywhere. Not long ago i wanted to save an mp3 file fronm the web and had to google how to do this. (spoiler: you can't without a 3rd party app)
They even managed to fuck up itunes interface. How do you fuck up a music player/management app?
Also, the new macbook doesn't have magsafe. Just why
>>

anon...
>>
>>51435562
I don't know how else you want me to put it. 10.7 cannot be made to run on 32 bit processors.
>>
>>51435646
But it does. That's why you're lying. I believe 10.7 was the last major revision to support 32 bit. 10.8+ was 64 bit only
>>
>>51435665
>I believe 10.7 was the last major revision to support 32 bit.
You believe wrong.
>>
>>51435688
I was right but for the wrong reasons. I often confuse core duo and core 2 duo.

Lion is the last release to support 32 bit. It just doesn't support core duo because apple says so.

It does, however, work on core duo it just requires some fuckery to do so.
>>
>>51435756
Core 2 Duo is x86-64.
>>
>>51435550
Me wasn't even NT-based. Last NT bluescreen I've seen was caused by sound drivers in NT4
>>
>>51435756
Also, this image is likely from a developer preview as they did not drop 32 bit support until mid way through development.
The actual release will never run on a 32 bit Mac.
>>
>>51435775
You bet it is, but the EFI in early Intel macs is only 32-bit, so it just won't boot anything past 10.7. I can't tell you why.
>>
>>51435821
Can pretty easily be worked around using hackintosh tools, so you end up with emulated EFI64 on top of emulated BIOS on top of EFI32. You'll also need a video card with 64 bit drivers.
>>
>>51435603
Should've made magsafe on one side and usb-c on the other
>>
>>51436547
not him, but I have literally never ever*1000 observed a case where magsafe has benefitted me with my rMBP.

If Apple drop magsafe to just completely saturate the side(s) of the next rMBP with USB 3.0 Type C ports, and let any of those charge the laptop but thus drop the unique magsafe feature of magnetic locking, I would be totally cool with it.

Utter nonsense.

Mavericks was a buggy mess for me. Finder in particular would freeze up constantly (Dropbox seemed to be part of it, but even without dropbox it still lagged like hell).

El Capitan fixed everything.
>>
>>51434505
Used to have one of these I think the real problem is that Apple didn't want to port the graphics driver to 64bit: there was no technical reason they couldn't have.
