The fury x and nvidia 980ti can handle 4K games but can sometimes dip dangerously low to ~30FPS if graphics are set to absolute max due to game bugs/glitches or the fact they were never designed to run in 4K res.

You'd have to get pretty lucky with the silicon lottery. Even then we are talking often 20fps difference. Being limited by 4GB VRAM doesn't help its case at 4K either.
I was fucking around when I first got my 980 to see how far I can push it without breaking it, managed to hit 1400/1500 CC on my card without fiddling with voltage which passes valley without any artifacts or TDR, but games crash after a few minutes playing and pop up with a TDR.
I dare not stress test it with 3DMax at its limit, heard stories of people frying their cards doing so.
It gives me around 10 more fps in valley but that is not indicative of performance increase in game as that varies. I'll only ever consider pushing it very high with a small overvolt if I want a performance boost and I am close to replacing it anyway.
If you are so desperate for 4K wait on the node shrink and get a new card 980 just won't cut it even SLI just doesn't seem worth it in the future with 4GB VRAM and 980Ti will be laughing stock come pascal/arctic islands 17/14 nm in merely 1 year.

There's more to anti-aliasing than just your ability to spot a one pixel wide line. Subsampled anti-aliasing like MSAA eliminates the nasty looking pixel crawl and various moire effects which are very much visible beyond the resolution your eyes can see individual lines. Shitty and really popular software AA solutions like FXAA won't help a bit here.
