6.0 Cataclysm rom , elementalX kernel 1step below stock undervolt underclock. Flashed L Speed and enabled pretty much everything there. Also Greenify/Amplify and disabled WiFi scanning . performance is identical to stock. 3,5 hours on an old battery , expect arroud 4,5 or more on a new one

Honestly I think my kernel would already have most of those, specific to the nexus 5 too.
I think this is just a limitation of the nexus 5 using low end hardware to be able to get away with the sd800 at this price.
I'm happy with 4-4.5 hours, but lately my device has been dipping into the high 3 hours mark.
Standby time is just amazing. I lose 2% overnight.

gives me anywhere from 3.5-4.5 hours battery life depending on usage.
best I remember is getting almost 9 hours once a while ago when i turned down the brightness and used it to read a book and listen to music capped at 1.2ghz no 4g.

It's not dumbed down, it actually performs really well.
my main reason for decreasing cpu by 300mhz and gpu by 60mhz is because it's hot as balls here in aus.
has no impact on my performance whatsoever, i never max it out with my uses.
considering I was getting 2-2.5 hours sot on stock kitkat, I'm really happy with how this turned out.
I also have a battery pack. uses a pair of efest 3400mAh cells, can recharge my nexus 5 2.5 times and can fit in my spare pocket with ease.

It's not like overclocking, you don't have to touch voltages, although I do like fine tuning the voltages at certain frequencies like boost.
decrease frequency to what you want.
use phone for 5 minutes, if performance is satisfactory then good for you, if not then go back and increase clock a bit and try again,
