it wasn't on fire or anything. I noticed it when I can't turn on my PC, it won't even let me go into the BIOS.the tech guy said that the GPU reached a certain temperature so it basically kaput.

Try cleaning the cooler first and run furmark on it. If it crashes again change the thermal paste of your gpu.

Does the GPU fire up at all when you power on? As in, do the fans start to spin? Does LED's if it has any light up? Does your computer pretend to be R2-D2 when you hit the powerbutton?
